I run a large online discussion group. We have one main rule: Attack your opponent's position, but do not attack your opponent. Calling other members names or disparaging their intelligence or character will get you a warning, then you will be suspended, and if you still don't stop you'll be banned.

We're all right wing now.

They could not defend their positions in open discussion. They ALWAYS resorted to personal attacks against anyone who held a different opinion - and felt smugly justified in doing so.

Arguing on the Internet is like the Special Olympics:

Even if you win, you're still retarded.

i dunno man at some point someone really dramatically outs themselves as a total retard and its worth simply disparaging them for it. a person who cannot argue honestly does not deserve honest argument after all

FLPede 6 points ago +6 / -0

That was their justification. One member of our group took any opposition to Obama as racism, and directed the most vile, obscene comments at people who did not agree with him. When I asked him why he could not play nice his response was the same as yours. People who held certain opinions needed to be called out and in no uncertain terms told how stupid and disgusting they were.

deleted 1 point ago +1 / -0
ColonelHughes 1 point ago +1 / -0

No no. Its not certain opinions. Thats the failing point of their argument. Its certain beliefs and they are lying to you by any other stretch. An opinion can be wrong. A belief belies faith and that faith is the core of a person. Thus their heavy handed attacks. Their zealous nature towards the issue.

That is what i mean. In my eyes saying you are retarded and no longer worthy of honest debate is drastically different from calling someone every vile word imaginable.

BeefyBelisarius 3 points ago +3 / -0

Exactly this. And some arguments are just trash, pushed by shills who after getting btfo, come right back the next day with the same arguments.

You see it a lot on /pol/ and people like that deserve nothing but mockery and having their worthless thread derailed. They weren't arguing in good faith to start with, so why waste time engaging them politely?

FLPede 3 points ago +3 / -0

Shills? We had people who came on around 9 am spouting the Democrat message du jour. I'm not sure if they were paid shills (though I suspect that was the case) or simply a useful idiot who read it elsewhere and carried it to our forum. Either way the result was the same.

If you present a logical, well researched and sauced post to validate your position and I respond by skipping over all your points and instead call you a racist piece of shit, you will most likely be offended. Most people respond with righteous anger. This takes the attention off your opinion and turns the thread into a cat fight. Too many threads like that in a forum and it becomes a toxic situation.

BeefyBelisarius 2 points ago +2 / -0

You thoroughly missed my point, fren.

Imagine you see one of those people spouting a generic, fortune 500 approved lefty talking point and you rebut it with a logical, well researched and sauced post. BTFO, they leave.

Now fast forward to the next day, when you see them again. Pushing the same talking point, again. How many times will you spend the time properly rebutting them before you finally say the hell with it and just start insulting the dumb fuckers?

For a real world example, consider gun control shills who have been pushing the 'nobody wants to take your guns' lie for literally decades, both online and off. It's all so tiresome.

FLPede 3 points ago +3 / -0

Ah, see - they DON'T leave. Their response to your logic is an ad hominem attack.

The next day you sign on and see their friends have joined in. You're mobbed with people making all sorts of accusations about your intelligence and prejudices.

You're right when you ask how many times will you spend the time properly rebutting them before you say the hell with it and start insulting them right back. That goes for you, that goes for people who would defend you against the mob. I would add a second option, and that is, just leave the forum. Time is valuable, why waste it if you're beating your head against a wall trading jabs with fools?

But THAT is what causes the toxic environment that silences conservative voices and drives them away. This is how they take over forums. We see it here on TDW. Fill it with crap. Make everyone argue. The rational voices don't bother to speak up any more.

The point I was trying to make in my OP was, weeding out the crap through moderation is exactly how forums become right wing echo chambers. There are extremely few rational, reasonable people on the left.

TruthyBrat 6 points ago +6 / -0

Scumbag-reddit 15 points ago +15 / -0

All shills, about 90% of them are bots responding to shill threads as the other guy said.

Theyre trying to destroy here and pol as its basically the last 2 major right wing type discussion groups.

Demoralization, psyops, the usual. You can spot a shill thread over there from a mile away.

Mashiki 8 points ago +8 / -0

This is why liberals need to control hollywood/entertainment/MSM to hold onto the narrative

In any actual discussion about a topic any leftist position gets dismantled with ease

So they need to carefully craft and frame the argument, by using every psychological trick in the book to make their position look like the only logical conclusion. And did I forget to mention the outright lies?

Appeals to emotion, they show you the most sad, unfair, heartbreaking story to get you to stop thinking logically and get that recreational outrage going

"This poor young black teenager was murdered by the police while he was helping a little old lady cross the street with her groceries on his way to cure cancer"

In reality: This 24 year old multiple felon was in the middle of stabbing someone when a cop pleaded with him to drop the weapon. Instead of dropping the weapon, he charged at the 8 police officers with guns drawn from 20 feet away

How many people still to this day are unaware that Trayvon Martin was bashing George Zimmermans head into the pavement while screaming "im going to kill you!" and "you're going to die tonight!"? Thats because when they control the conversation they don't let any of the obvious narrative breaking facts come up.

In an hourlong segment where 5-6 people are discussing the topic, this is obviously intentional. And for someone who doesn't know this tactic they just accept the premise, and the next day at the watercooler they can't understand why their conservative coworkers see it differently.

OH wait, that right. During that hourlong segment they said that the only reason someone would disagree was because they were white supremacists.

Pillage 10 points ago +10 / -0

The less regulated the more right-leaning a forum. Look at where reddit started and where it ended up.

patch6 7 points ago +7 / -0

I love this about the internet.

And also the left have a fragile web of lies that absolutely need hate speech laws and censorship to preserve. They are going to attack the internet in desperation.

ControlledCuck 1 point ago +1 / -0

They are already attacking the internet since many years back. Alex Jones, Daily Stormer, Parler, Bitchute have all either been deplatformed/lost domains/hosting or been threatened with that if they don't censor. Even Gab was attacked and threatened with getting banned from hosters and domain registrars until they managed to build up enough of their own infrastructure to not need them anymore which took them years.

Ponzo -8 points ago +9 / -17

Gab doesn't allow free speech. He already banned porn and would ban lgbt alphabet boys just as quick if they started posting gay/trans shit.

potato4dawin 17 points ago +21 / -4

Based. Porn isn't speech but a control mechanism of the Deep State to destroy the nuclear family and turn people into sex obsessed losers who sit in front of a screen all day jacking it and faggotry is a crime against public morals 1 step away from pedophilia as faggots are extremely disproportionately likely to be pedophiles

Dr. Adrian Copeland, a psychiatrist who works with sexual offenders at the Peters Institute in Philadelphia, said that, from his experience, pedophiles tend to be homosexual and "40% to 45%" of child molesters have had "significant homosexual experiences.

Despite being 2% of the population fags make up over 40% of child molesters. That's 32 times more likely. It's the normalization of this faggotry that is why pedophiles openly advocate for themselves on twitter as "Minor Attracted Persons" or MAPs. Homosexuality is a mental illness that's just a subcategory of hypersexualization which is almost always a coping mechanism for mommy or daddy issues or just the result of porn addiction, and I know 2 trannies who I once called my friends that are proof positive of that.

Ponzo -10 points ago +5 / -15

So its not free speech. The left thinks that the speech and content they censor is "the right thing" too.

potato4dawin 15 points ago +16 / -1

Yeah, but the difference is they're wrong, and evil, and want to kill you and rape your kids and think its funny.

The right to freedom of speech was not made for faggots to sell sex to your children. They're an enemy to be destroyed and silencing them is a virtue.

RPD2 1 point ago +2 / -1

Porn had only really been an issue since printed and electronic media came into being. If it's detrimental to human health, the trait will gradually evolve out of the human population, even if it takes centuries or millennia.

potato4dawin 2 points ago +2 / -0

Or we could solve the problem now by recognizing the dangers and putting a stop to it in the coming few years because this planet will not survive the detriments since it's not just detrimental to human health, but is destructive in the ends of its psychological effects.

The historical example of the Roman emperor Caligula, in my view provides the greatest example of the porn/sex/dopamine addiction problem from 2000 years ago. Caligula nearly brought about the destruction of Rome in his sex addiction withdrawal induced depressive state and manic pleasure seeking for a craving that had grown so great as to be insatiable. Caligula nearly expended the entire Roman treasury in his pursuit of pleasure, pursued crossdressing and other more deviant sexual pursuits for the extra rush, and yet nothing he did satisfied him to the point where his own guards killed him to save Rome from his rampage.

In the modern day we have millions of people exactly like this but rather than control the government from the top, they control it through their votes. Their addiction to pleasure seeking has left their everyday life empty and unfulfilling to the point where they vote for whoever promises fulfillment of their insatiable desires and gives purpose to their empty lives. That's why the deep state pushes sexual deviancy in public, calls it "pride", and pretends it's a moral virtue. They feed their lusts to magnify their destructive state of insatiable desire that consumes all while creating nothing in order to create a voting base of eternally obedient slaves whose desire for pleasure is so great that their feelings stop caring about our facts, and the deep state does this so they can pursue the level of power of an Emperor because they themselves are the same as Caligula, but worse in that they make Caligula look like a saint as they not only don't care if the whole country is destroyed in their pursuit of pleasure, but they've found ways of seeking pleasure through the intentional destruction of the country by selling out to foreign enemies, and their pursuit into deviancy and taboo for pleasure has gone far beyond harems, gay sex, and crossdressing but just about every evil under the sun, as they seek to spread this destructive state throughout the whole world, and guess what? They're succeeding.

Philosophers throughout history have spoken on the negative effects of being a "slave to passions" for as far back as history has recorded significant eras of philosophy, but modernity seems to more often than not, dismiss of the wisdom of the past out of a deluded superiority complex arisen from the scientific advancements of the past few centuries and yet without an explanation to replace the wisdom of the past they choose ignorance instead, literally becoming stupider in their choice to exalt themselves as superior to the wise men of the past because of advancements in a mostly unrelated field of study to philosophy. It is only in the past few years that research into these harmful effects has caught up to several millennia old philosophy in regards to this particular subject as to document such effects.

Ponzo -11 points ago +5 / -16

The constitution protects everyone, not just the ones you want to.

potato4dawin 13 points ago +15 / -2

The founding fathers made the constitutions for a Christian nation and pornography is explicitly not speech, nor is any other display corrupting public morals or any other display of public indecency.

The only reason gay pride parades aren't counted among those things is because this country's morals have been fucked and corrupt judges have allowed it.

If you allow it, you're not upholding the constitution, you're tolerating its destruction and you're nothing more than a traitor. These worthless platitudes based on ignorance are responsible for destroying this nation.

They're the enemy, fuck off with your naive ignorant platitudes and grow a moral backbone rather than just arbitrarily following your absentminded adherence to a code of law you don't even understand.

Injustice 2 points ago +2 / -0

IcyHue 2 points ago +2 / -0

I think it's more about right wingers being banned or forced to flee from the bigger sites controlled by leftists. They concentrate on the few that are left as a refuge. Left ideas probably could survive without censorship as well but there's no need for them to try on a platform with a growing right wing majority. And /pol e.g. does make sure to keep them away. (So it's more like "right wing ideas cannot exist with censorship")

smartass 2 points ago +2 / -0

This law existed way before Gab.

they-see-me-trollin 1 point ago +1 / -0

except it's not complete.

look up what happened with poe's law. back when poe's law was "written", evangelical extremists in the US got a shitload of playtime in media. poe's law originally said that it's impossible to tell the difference between religious extremism and sarcasm/parody without additional cues. but today, poe's law still applies, that it's impossible to tell the difference between ANY extremism and sarcasm/parody without additional cues. this is why babylon bee is fucking hilarious and people often think it's real.

gab's law isn't left vs right. right vs wrong. it's good ideas vs bad ideas. it's good vs evil. the evil ideas can't survive when people can counter them, speak out against them, and drown them out with good ideas. only under censorship can evil drown out the good.

and right now, the left is taking the position of evil, and SOME of the right is good.

Orion101 1 point ago +2 / -1

Several right-wing ideas cannot exist in a free-speech environment either, especially the libertarian ones which say that people can do whatever they want and negative externalities be damned.

Talking points such "the elites should be able to make as much money as they want" and "it's okay that a month's worth of insulin cost the same as a used car" are exposed for the one percenter propaganda that they are.

Because an uncensored discussion in a free-speech environment will reach a consensus that allowing people to accrue unlimited fortunes also allows them to capture our institutions, and keeping people sick and debt demoralizes the nation as a whole and leaves it ripe for conquest.

That's why people like Ben Shapiro don't have much of a reach beyond censored establishment platforms like Facebook and YouTube.

AcidOverlord 1 point ago +1 / -0

My issue with Torba is that he's a bible-thumbing retard every bit as bad as an obnoxious leftist atheist. This wouldn't normally be a problem in and of itself, except that he, like a leftist, allows it to interfere with his business decisions and the way he regards the free speech of other people. He couldn't resist using the power he had to force his views on the people using his service, to the point he banned fucking hentai and called it "demonic."

He's the flip side of the coin we're fighting. "Censorship is okay when it hurts people I don't like." Hello every Zuckerberg-worshipping Democrat everywhere.

Forums/platforms going liberal has a far stronger correlation with the size of it's userbase than how strongly they censor things. Just look at all the major platforms that became bigger over time and automatically slid towards liberalism, as well as all the subreddits that became larger and super-liberal at the same time.

You can combine all free speech right-wing platforms, and they will still only add up to a tiny fraction of the size of the biggest left-wing censored platforms. The entirety of fucking Big Tech is under the thumb of liberalism, and that speaks volumes.

Also there is no platform that truly allows 100% unmoderated free speech (i.e. no bans). The moment a site actually does that, it swiftly gets overrun by porn, coomers, pedophilia, nazis, illegal content, etc. Just all kinds of degeneracy,

Injustice 2 points ago +2 / -0

Modern liberalism is equal to globalism. Low IQers thinking they know exactly what is needed to form an utopia and anyone who shits on their circle jerk is an obtuse racist who wants to kill minorities and slave them under capitalism.

Of course big tech will push censorship to preserve the erroneous globalist view, they are all about eyeballs and they know people with the loftiest views are the ones marketing works. Someone who understands capitalism and how to move up in the system will have a producer mindset, a delayed gratification mindset. Someone who scorns capitalism and doesn't understand how to move up in the system will have a consumer mindset, an immediate gratification mindset.

Xuvial 1 point ago +1 / -0

Someone who understands capitalism and how to move up in the system will have a producer mindset, a delayed gratification mindset.

Isn't that how we ended up with big tech in the first place? It sums up the mindset of big tech founders/leaders/execs/etc.

Injustice 2 points ago +2 / -0

They didn't move up though, they established new application for the existing infrastructure and their adoption by people is what moved them up. The capitalism system rewarded them for their innovation now their success is not to be confused with entrepreneurship a lot of their success was accidental and as such they never have had a concrete ideal of what their platforms were to be and have created it as it goes. They understand the market as wanting their service to get the most clicks and eyeballs globally so they pursue that.

Social media in the end is socialism. A tiny minority controls it and everyone else imitates that minority in hopes of joining the "leader" class and as such it can not deal with competing ideas which fragments the social cohesion their system have which is often based on a lie. The lie being social media is the best way to stay in contact with the people you know.
