Glenn may be a leftie, but he's one of the last remaining good journalists. He knows that his job is to uncover the truth, not push propaganda.

TheRealJaredHolt 23 points ago +23 / -0

Hes got principles and hes an ethical journalist. One of the last of a dying breed, sadly.

Greenwald is smart enough to know where this is going. He knew where it was going before it happened to him a few times. It even happened to the company he left the Guardian to found, the Intercept. So, he resigned from there because they wouldn't let him print the truth and they trashed him on the way out.

Fascism?

17
_-Th0r-_ 17 points ago +20 / -3

Fascism is a form of authoritarianism that involves nationalism.

The left isn’t nationalist.

Just communist authoritarians.

Writing in the 1940s, Orwell concluded that Fascism has no particular meaning other than perhaps something like "bully".

The word itself derives from fasces, the bundles of axehandles that a Roman high official's honor guard would carry within the city proper. (Outside the city, the bundle included an actual axe.) By the Republic era, the whole thing was pretty much symbolic, but the symbol was literally a marker of authority.

In the 20th century, Fascism was an offshoot of Italian socialism. The philosophers who called themselves Fascists and the politicians who picked up their ideas all said so.

From our place in history, we would have a really hard time telling Nazi philosophy apart from Fascist philosophy. From right up close, there were lots of little details that differed in the way they ran things, but from a distance they look a lot alike. In Italy, the party owned the government and the government bossed the corporations around. In Germany, the party owned the government and the corporations and bossed them both around. Both systems were nominally run for the benefit of their own people, but their own people didn't have much say in anything.

At this point, whenever I see someone use the word fascism, I assume they mean bully. Their mental model is probably a low ranking German officer, as depicted in some movie or TV show, asking to see your papers. (Alternative mental model: some figure of boomer culture calling an American authority figure a fascist for busting them breaking the law.) If the person using the word has an understanding of fascism beyond that, communication is probably difficult or impossible because you'll never agree what the hell the word means.

Thank you for explaining (some of) the differences between Nazis and Fascists. It's been very difficult trying to learn about this stuff, since everyone has their bias.

2
AmazinKrackin2 2 points ago +2 / -0

Thanks fren for the explanation of Fascism. The Democrats keep the language fluid so once you get an understanding of one concept it becomes a shift changer and takes on a different name but with the same meaning.

1
ZhaoBaiDeng 1 point ago +1 / -0

The nazi difference is the race talk.

1
kjj9 1 point ago +1 / -0

Well, yes, the race stuff was much more prominent in Nazi philosophy.

I was thinking specifically about politics and economics when I said that you'd have a hard time telling them apart.

People often characterize the era of Fascist rule in Italy as government-corporate partnership as if that is a meaningful distinction, but it isn't. Germany, Russia, Japan and to a surprisingly large extent the US all had similar systems of top-down control during that era.

1
ZhaoBaiDeng 1 point ago +1 / -0

Race stuff is the main difference. Hitler had to convince Mussolini to start on his jews. It wasn't part of original Fascist thought.

All forms of government, even anarchy, is fascist.

Rule by power.

2
DarkDrai 2 points ago +2 / -0

Anarchy isn't really a form of government, so much as it describes the relationship between power structures.

You do make a good point, though. Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.

2
RuleoVicus 2 points ago +2 / -0

The political spectrum is more anarchy <> totalitarianism; right to left.

There is case law for SCOTUS regarding free speech (even on private property) that can apply to what is happening now.

This case is in regards to a company owned "town", but it wouldn't be a stretch to apply it to privately owned social media companies, given that their "property" is a public meeting place.

https://cyber.harvard.edu/is02/readings/stateaction-shaffer-van-houweling.html

In an opinion by Justice Hugo L. Black, the majority ruled in Marsh’s favor. The Court reasoned that a company town does not have the same rights as a private homeowner in preventing unwanted religious expression. While the town was owned by a private entity, it was open for use by the public, who are entitled to the freedoms of speech and religion. The Court employed a balancing test, weighing Chickasaw’s private property rights against Marsh’s right to free speech. The Court stressed that conflicts between property rights and constitutional rights should typically be resolved in favor of the latter.

What twitter/google/etc are doing is already illegal, the issue is that judges are not following law.

"State intervention in economic production arises when private initiative is insufficient, or when the interests of the State are involved. This intervention may take the form of control or direct management." -Benito Mussolini, Fascism: Doctrines & Institutions, 1932 pg.135

CONFESSION THROUGH PROJECTION.

Accuse others of doing what you're doing to cause confusion and chaos.

17
Fuckyourusername 17 points ago +18 / -1

But they are not pressuring or coercing.

They merely ask big tech and they do so willingly and gleefully.

11
dougkeenan 11 points ago +11 / -0

hell they'll even throw down for drop boxes

7
The_Emperor 7 points ago +7 / -0

Your town authorities send you a letter saying gee we don't like that one shed. Now move it or take it down. You do, unless you want a fight. Big tech doesn't want a fight with the CA dem authorities who are also regulating and taxing them. So the 'ask' is always coercive.

0
Fuckyourusername 0 points ago +1 / -1

Not if I had already wanted to and was planning to take the shed down as well.

2
DontApologize 2 points ago +2 / -0

Sure. But they reason they are so gleeful is that the government promises to look the other way with regards to section 230. Coercion isn't always force - bribes are coercion as well.

Quixotic 4 points ago +4 / -0

This is an illegitimate government.

4
MAGAborn 4 points ago +4 / -0

Willing to bet big pharma had as much to do with it as big tech. Look how hard they’re pushing the “vaccine” now.

4
Quixotic 4 points ago +4 / -0

China wants to kill/depopulate western civilization to steal our land and extract/control our natural resources

1
MAGAborn 1 point ago +1 / -0

Don’t know about that. But follow the money. Who’s getting rich from injecting the masses.

0
Quixotic 0 points ago +1 / -1

If you don’t know about that, you’re retarded.

Who created it and sent it out and covered it up and corrupted our press and hollywood and business etc

0
MAGAborn 0 points ago +1 / -1

Both of your dads are retarded.

0
Quixotic 0 points ago +1 / -1

Vaccines are going to kill a lot of people

they are going to call it a new strain of covid but it’s the vaccines that will cause the second wave of death

1
MAGAborn 1 point ago +1 / -0

Or... they’ll create an actual deadly virus, after crying wolf about this one, to kill those who haven’t been vaccinated.

4
DeadRepublic 4 points ago +5 / -1

So, we need to find someone who has been banned from facebook and trigger a lawsuit. Seek damages in excess of 500 billion dollars. Make them feel it. We are yet to see the effectiveness of Trumps constitutional based (for the most part?) judges. Doable? Maybe.

3
deleted 3 points ago +3 / -0
3
MAGAborn 3 points ago +3 / -0

And right on cue DC and Facebook are “arguing” with each other about who’s to blame for people not wanting the injection. “Look, we’re arguing, we’re totally not colluding to violate the 1st amendment like some banana republic dictatorship”

3
slowmotrin 3 points ago +3 / -0

They are banking on the Supreme Court being corrupt enough to side with them, they've done it many times already.

If they are bragging about this paroxysm of fascism in public imagine what they're saying in private.

2
lul_cheto 2 points ago +2 / -0

this

1
Shenanigunz 1 point ago +1 / -0

Doesn't sound like it's taking a lot of "pressure". FB is probably happier than a pig in shit to be censoring and banning.

1
remindmelater 1 point ago +1 / -0

So they're violating our constitutional rights.....

1
BloodDe 1 point ago +1 / -0

I figured that might bite somebody. Too bad we have no power.

Which case is that? Anyone know?

1
TheTudes 1 point ago +1 / -0

Maybe the regime occupying the White House and Facebook are involved in a consensual relationship….

1
RedAltoids 1 point ago +1 / -0

Faceberg is CIA anyway. CIA's Lifelog project rebranded as Facebook. The government is just disguising itself as private entities.

Glenn is not on our team but he fights for what the our team wants, freedom and protecting our Constitution. Probably the only one from the MSM that actually had ethics and stand up for Democracy. Thanks Glenn for all that you do to protect our rights.

_deleted_ 0 points ago +1 / -1

You're all confused... See, it's Democrats accused of wrongdoing. Therefore nobody will even see a courtroom. Get it?
