Shit man, very sorry for your loss and the family drama on top of that.

We ran into some drama two years ago with my wife’s grandmother’s funeral. Plenty of unsolicited comments about the arrangements by aunts and cousins, yet these same people were literal ghosts when my wife and her mom were asking for help.

Wife was in tears, I had some rather loud words for these assholes and we didn’t hear a peep out of them the rest of the day. Come to think of it, we haven’t heard a peep out of them since the funeral, I'm not complaining.

Anyhow, all that to say that people can be real assholes, especially at funerals. All you can do is your best to honor your mother. Fuck the haters and ignore their bullshit, it’s not your job to be their punching bag.

God Bless you, my man. Truer - and more tragically dead-on - observations cannot be elaborated upon by Your Humble Narrator. It really IS like a family blue-print, primarily when the GLUE of the parents dissipates upon their collective death, that the rest of barely-communicative family just finally DISSOLVES. Tragedy brings out the NASTIEST true colors, doesn't it? I honestly doubt I'll see the majority of my siblings again and regarding about 50% of them with whom I can carry on topical, CIVIL, NON POLITICAL conversations I absolutely don't give a shit.

One (of many) massive projects I've had to undertake this year around the property is removal of this become-a-burden huge maple tree in front, the stump of which was finally ground out recently. As the sibs will be stomping in & out of the House Of Memories, I sincerely hope they enjoy the new rock sculpture I put in, JUST for their perusal. This will make SURE I never see them again.

I LOVE it Pede! 😂 You’re spot on, life’s too short to try and please the ridiculous…family ties be damned.

Again, my sincere condolences on your loss. I hope the funeral brings you some closure and this family drama is quickly put in the rear view for better times ahead.

Honestly as much as I love the midwest (and will stay within the 'mid' corridor - up to the Dakotas, down south [a sis used to live in Chickasha, OK etc]), after all is tied up & given a ribbon on top (I get the house for my decade-plus of UNPAID caregiving, estate issues, yard, etc maintenance) I'm thinking about a 'new' start and have had my eye on TX for some time. Another sister lived outside of Dallas (Duncan? I believe) for years, a cousin lives in Flower Mound, my mom's youngest sister lives outside of Houston, etc. Thinking about a Big Move. Or possibly back to KC, MO where I was right before coming back to PoDunk here. This surly small-town shit just ain't for me - I quit drinking (and 'other') 19 years ago exactly and that's the ONLY pastime here - Comatose Alcoholism (my sex life has gone down the shitter since being sober!).

Never married (though still HIDE on Fathers Day), the parents' welfare was the ONLY thing tying me here, etc. But then there's the common sense philosophical statement of "Wherever you go, there YOU (and all your skeletons etc) are".
