Tons. I’m a foreman and people literally just don’t show up. They will work for a couple days then not show up. We’ve gone through tons of guys at my shop it’s insane.

Poomer1 [S] 82 points ago +82 / -0

Are these folks with trade certs, or just straight labor?

125
TheBasedZodiac 125 points ago +126 / -1

We had a welder show up for a week. Worked the full week. Left his helmet and tools and never came back. Never even picked up his paycheck. This is just one of many examples. Been through 25 guys since I started at this plant back in March. Never seen anything like it. Usually people are lined up for these jobs. Nope. Not anymore.

I had a coworker years ago, couple days never showed. Bosscomes in- died, drowned in community pool. What little time together he seemed pretty cool. Alcohol related I believe.

I once got drunk on a work trip at the hotel pool and decided it was a good time to see how long I could hold my breath. I hit 3 minutes. Shouldn't have tried that alone.

I had a boss setup a meeting for right after lunch. He never came back. Longest day ever. His son would show up after school and hang out until his mom could come get him. It was my job to keep him occupied until mom came that day. He knew something bad was up. Super fucked.

4
TheBasedFriscoMan 4 points ago +4 / -0

Suicide meeting?

5
CyclopticErotica 5 points ago +5 / -0

He took his wife and inlaws out on a small boat he had at lunch. I don't remember why. Buy he had trouble starting the boat with the pull rope, and as they left the dock he slumped over onto his wife dead. RIP Capt Reuter

Guys in the workshop shared out his tools. Never heard any more.

5

12
AtlanteanWizard 12 points ago +14 / -2

Workers who leaves a paycheck behind means the enviroment is toxic.

5
ArriveViolently 5 points ago +8 / -3

Dude if the gov was going to literally pay me more to not work and do whatever I want to all day, you can bet I would take that option. No toxic environment needed to make that call!

8
T-Bear 8 points ago +8 / -0

Not everyone is going to make that call.

I'd rather make an honest buck in labor that pays reasonably, in a workplace that does quality work but doesn't put up with unnecessary ball-busting and shit-talk, from the leaders down, over sitting on my ass collecting what could be a bigger check.

In better times, I've left off some hugely toxic work environments for smaller pay but better environments. Now, being old, retired, medically challenged, extremely Biblical Christian, white, intelligent, and MAGA, I'm just about unhireable.

It would make no sense to hire me, as I'd be going through the learning curve while the team is impatiently waiting for me to catch up. I'd have to be looked upon as an investment - something most small companies cannot afford to do today due to the political climate.

Just the same - I'd rather be working for a check, than sitting at home collecting a bigger check. This is old-fashioned work ethic and integrity.

5
ArriveViolently 5 points ago +7 / -2

Meh. If they wanted to pay me more to stay home and go on adventures and make memories with my kids, I would take that in a heartbeat over trying to prove some "ethic" to a company that doesn't care about any of that in the long run and would lay me off in a heartbeat.

America is dead. The future is dark. Might as well loot the remains and try to make a better life for our families while we can. In 5 years no one is going to care how hard you worked for Acme Corp.

2
Bond 2 points ago +3 / -1

Very much agree with this.

2
T-Bear 2 points ago +3 / -1

My kids are up and grown, and not everyone has a good marriage.

America may be dead in some people's eyes, but it continues to live so long as people cherish its principles in heart.

Not proving any ethic - just living cleanly with my own personal integrity.

People can make their own choices.

11
worksof0zymandias 11 points ago +11 / -0

Hey before the coof, our friend who owns an HVAC company said he couldn't find enough guys to work. Another friend does tile work and said he'd bring young guys on and try and teach them the trade. They'd show up for a week or two, then just stop showing up. No call, no nothing. He finally said screw it, I'll just work solo. So I think the culture of not working was already brewing, and the Wu flu just legitimized it.

5
SanFranShitty 5 points ago +6 / -1

This new generation has low T and got participation awards all the time. They don’t like to work and don’t know how to set goals. And they are wimps. Not a good combination.

2
Uh-hickabuh 2 points ago +2 / -0

So many people are like that. No goals, just go through life one moment to the next. I have a roommate, he's like 30. Gets up at 8 to smoke a bowl to go back to sleep until 11 when he has to get up to go to work, comes home, smokes, plays call of duty until nighttime and does it all over again. It's a depressing cycle to witness. It's like living with a 14 year old. I think a lot of people are like my roommate these days.

This is the rot setting in from the extra welfare money. The Ds know that human nature will kick in hard if they can just keep people home and lazy long enough to lose their will to work.

24
TheBasedZodiac 24 points ago +25 / -1

My job laid me off when covid first happened. I went and found another job and left them because I didn’t want to be laid off. It’s nice actually with so little competition you can really find a sweet gig ha

17
SquiggyMcPepe 17 points ago +18 / -1

Yep. This is a workers market right now and you can get some good compensation for even the most basic of work ethics.

25
TheBasedZodiac 25 points ago +27 / -2

Within 6 months I am now running the place I work at. Which is great as I have leadership skills and a lot of the trades under my belt. The only thing that sucks is I’m working 14hrs a day 7 days a week because nobody shows up haha

13
Iranhasnukes 13 points ago +14 / -1

My son works construction and has similar experience - 3 raises in 6 months cause he is 1 of 3 that actually show up, like “it’s the 80’s”

Everyone else takes work as a suggestion. You never know if they will show or not. Wtf?

11
FuckingWiseCracker 11 points ago +11 / -0

Good job. My daughter just got her first job as a cashier at the local, family owned grocery store. Her interview was at noon, she walked in at 11:45, and walked out at 12:02 with a job making $10/hour. This is really good for those of us that actually want to work. I'm so proud of her, I can't stand it.

Are they refusing to work because of mask and vaccine mandates, fear of the virus, or because they can get paid for sitting at home and doing nothing? I'm confused why they're even bothering to show up for a couple days.

66
TheBasedZodiac 66 points ago +68 / -2

Most likely because they can get paid to sit at home. No mandates here. I don’t make my guys wear masks.

30
Joe_Snow 30 points ago +31 / -1

Wassup man? Where you guys located? I'll send you a resume. I'm a mechanical design engineer but I have a machinist background. I actually prefer to be "on the tools". I've been dreading going back to work since being laid off early on in the pandemic (most recent hire of 3 engineers) and then nearly fainting in an interview during the mask mandate. I still havent figured out how to explain to a recruiter that I cant wear a mask, and WONT take an experimental jab, because those kinds of "considerations" usually dont land you a job...

Get me out of IL dude. Please. I work hard.

Had a couple ideas. working for a cable company, installing systems in homes or businesses. Sometimes the local cable Co has training. Might end up in some hot ass attics though.... but little of everything involved. I hear they work hellacious hours though, and probably may have to deal with bullshit virus stuff when going to people's homes.... who knows. I don't like seeing masks and signs about germs.... fuck all that bullshit.
Also telecom companies that may have you going out and digging ditches locating and repairs/splicing fiber optic cable, may have training available. Or hvac might be a good gig for you, especially once you learned the trade you could start your own and be out on road to clients. Would do a little of everything in that kind of job, a little woodwork, a little metal work, some welding or brazing, some electrical.... just whatever it takes to make it work. Good honest Man's Work.

7
Onajet312 7 points ago +7 / -0

I was a coax splicer and installed taps for a telecom company that sub contracted jobs for Comcast. Most of the 'Amigos' pulled RG11 coaxial cable and dug trenches to lay new conduit. Splicing fiber is where the good pay is, it requires certification so some guys get discouraged.

Consider sticking with the IT Sec training. Many of those jobs work remotely. I'm in IT myself (Systems Engineer) and I have been working remote for over a year now. Managed to wrangle remote work until fall when the schools open again, but given the chance that the govt. is going to try and shut it all down again, I might end up working from home even longer.

Surveyor!

6
deleted 6 points ago +6 / -0
2
Plsdontfireme 2 points ago +2 / -0

Google licensed surveyors on Craigslist or yelp or whatever. Call them and ask if you could go with them for a day to see what its like to be a surveyor. I bet they'd take you.

If you like it, ask them or Google your states license requirements for surveying.

Also check online for videos that describe it. I bet search terms like "how do I become a surveyor" or "what does a surveyor do" would give you some keep starting videos to see if you might like it.

If you end up calling a surveyor, put yourself in their shoes and try to get ahead of any questions they may have for you. And if you have questions try to Google them before asking so that you don't waste their time, but instead use them to validate what you read. This will make them have a lot more respect for you

5
NonyaDB 5 points ago +6 / -1

My Dad did that during summers in college back in the early 60s. He said it was awesome and he saw a lot of the country doing it. He loved talking about wandering through the woods surveying large tracts of land. He taught me how to use a lensatic compass and shoot azimuths and land navigate and shit long before Uncle Sam "officially" showed me how in the Army.

6
Iranhasnukes 6 points ago +6 / -0

US forest service has great gigs for surveyors

12
NonyaDB 12 points ago +14 / -2

Just checked and they're not hiring it seems.
Also their pay for civil engineers is pathetic - GS-7/9! WTF?!??!?!
When I was in DoD I started at GS-11 and a year later was a GS-12 hopping back and forth between Europe and the Middle East as a systems analyst/network engineer.
And I only have a high school diploma. I'm just a complete Temple Grandin-level autist when it comes to military tech requirements.
I can be dropped into the middle of no-fucking-where and figure out how to establish a complete NIPR/SIPR telecommunications infrastructure using nothing more than a map, a compass, and a secure satellite phone to phone in what hardware I'll need them to drop to me.
But alas, it's a post-war environment now and no one needs those skills anymore.
But I still know how to steal and operate every wheeled and armored vehicle in the entire U.S. Army inventory so I've got that going for me in the event of a collapse.

Well, I have been entertaining a thought experiment lately.
You see, the FAA has mandated that all drones that weight more than 250g have to be registered with the FAA and have to use a special FAA-approved smartphone app to request clearance for takeoff in a lot of urban locations.
A popular app lets you see others that have requested clearance.

Using that data one could theoretically hunt down a drone user, forcibly take their drone from them and disappear them.

Slap a homemade compound C/ball bearing mix on the drone (even basic bitch DJI drones can carry a good amount of external load) wired up to a disposal film camera flash circuit that's connected to the drone's auto-landing light and send it flying away to a target. Once it gets far enough out, change the auto-land home location to the target's balcony/location and re-activate the auto-landing lights.
Then toss the remote in a river. Once the drone loses signal with the remote, it automatically initiates a "return to home" landing routine, kicking on the landing lights right before it lands.
The feds will trace the remains of the drone back to the original owner and spend the rest of their existence searching/slandering/libeling someone they'll never find.

Of course, this is all purely theoretical but I guess what I'm really trying to say is the communist left really needs to stop fucking with sociopaths such as myself, and particularly stop fucking up our various hobbies such as vidya gamez and classic 80s cartoons.

3
LightLurker 3 points ago +3 / -0

Welding is a good trade for that. Also if you’re in Western Texas you could be a lease operator for an oil and gas company. They go out by themselves all the time to check on pump jacks and check fluid levels. Hope this helps!

7
Good_Behavior_Day 7 points ago +8 / -1

Same here. You hire them, they work for a week or so, then they just disappear. My shop is me and two employees, went through eight people last year.

I try to pay average for the area and offer vacation time. None of the small shops can afford to offer health insurance. I try to have a relaxed atmosphere, but it seems like that only encourages the kids to blow off work. One of them who actually showed up would stand around, play on his phone, and whenever I asked him to do something he'd just say "I don't do that" and go back to his phone. I told him not to show up.

Any shop in town that isn't two boomers who've been there for 20 years are having the same issue. Up to three years ago I'd have people coming in asking for work, now there's no point in even advertising help wanted.

3
ItsTrumpThen 3 points ago +3 / -0

They have it all figured out. They show up just long enough to re-qualify for unemployment when they stop working.

103
Bishop 103 points ago +104 / -1

They are currently fulfilling their unemployment requirements. The unemployment offices are now requiring that they go and apply. One restaurant manager told me they apply then don't show up for the interview. Pisses him off and wastes his time but fulfils the requirement for the lay abouts.

63
Simple_Doot 63 points ago +63 / -0

35
Modern_Times 35 points ago +35 / -0

I talked to someone in the restaurant supply business over the weekend. In his tourist town they usually have loads of Eastern Europeans filling positions. Not so this year. This year dish washers are demanding $25.00 an hour so long as it is cash so it will not interfere with their unemployment stipend.

25
Prayeradime12 25 points ago +25 / -0

Damn. $25/hr for dishwasher? Fuck that! Those people are over valuing their skills big time..... that's like over $40k/year.... I wasted dishes for my first job when I was 14, here in Oklahoma, and I got paid $5/hr.... it is crazy, minimum wage is still like $7.25 or $7.50/hr here, which is bullshit. It's been that way for probably almost 20 years.... but $25/hr for dishwasher is a lot. Do people actually pay that?

22
FormerGraveheart 22 points ago +22 / -0

No restaurant can afford to pay that and stay in business.

Same in the UK. All those Central European minimum wages guys went home and never came back.

Suddenly those jobs are worth more than minimum wage.

Exactly like we Brexiteers said, foreigners depress wages, but we were just racist.

Sadly, businesses relying on that wage structure are now struggling, and perhaps will not survive if they try and raise prices. But that's the hole you dug, life goes on.

8
OGTD1 8 points ago +8 / -0

Wait till the shipping rates on our cheaply made Chi Comm crap goes through the roof…. The way we got around true inflation for years was slave/dirt cheap labor. The reckoning is upon us. You’d be a nut to start a small business right now.

5

I dunno, starting a business reshoring something currently made in China seems like it might be a smart thing.

3
Assassin47 3 points ago +3 / -0

You’d be a nut to start a small business right now.

What alternative is there? You can work for a corporation and get the jab, be an independent contractor if your skills are good enough, or collect unemployment.

If you can freelance that's best but at some point you may want to expand and build something with others.

3
the-new-style 3 points ago +3 / -0

Reshoring has been a trend for a while, those who planned for it are potentially in a good spot.

I left a couple of jobs because they are effectively the front end of a Chinese supply chain.

7
OakiaPyre 7 points ago +7 / -0

Most restaurants I have worked at, if the server (good server) were to add up all their tips and paycheck, instead of spending their tips day by day, they would find out that they make more money than most managers. My first hand account of almost every server I have worked with is that they are terrible with money. Most of them spend half of their daily tips before they even get home.

3
Friendly_B 3 points ago +3 / -0

As someone with a long history of service work in Leftist cities, this is 100% true.

now requiring that they go and apply

My wife is an HR manager and she gets multiple "no call, no show"s for interviews, for after job offers have been made, for training. It used to be the no call, no show was a problem with the current employees, but now it is much worse with the potential employees. In addition to that, they have had to pretty much eliminate qualifications outside of what is legally required. Unless you are a full blown basket case, you can get a job with them.

Out and about this weekend, there were "We're Hiring" signs up at just about every business. It grew up in and went to college in the rustiest of the rust belt. There was competition for fast food jobs, retail jobs, supermarket jobs, basic labor jobs. I would have thought I was in heaven to have so much work opportunity.

Good for you, I bet it's paid off, that welfare check and EBT cards may seem like some sweet free money, but it doesn't do shit, your siblings have no economic or financial freedom, they are completely chained and beholden to the hand that feeds them, the greediest, dirtiest, most evil hand of them all, the government

Ebbie8708 2 points ago +2 / -0

It hasn’t been easy. There are several times I feel like I’m doing something wrong because I battle with loneliness and not having a family. Though I don’t have much self esteem because I was called ugly cuz I look like a white girl but that’s another story..

but at 32 y/o I finally got my dream car (brand new Altima 2020 that only had 5 miles on it). Gonna trade it in for a Dodge Charger next year when I pay it off though haha

Hey don’t judge me. At least I’m not driving around in a car made by the same company that made cars for the Nazis.

2
BatmanForTrump 2 points ago +2 / -0

😂 no judgement here, (you may want to avoid buying new cars though, it's a rip off, get used with very few miles, new car prices plummet the moment they are driven off the lot, just my 2 cents) but good for you, and all the people that called you ugly because you "look white" were just jealous, it's really quite easy to spot, they have low self esteem of themselves and are sadists, so they need others to wallow in sorrow with them, they don't want to be lonely in their misery, just remember you live life for you, the individual, there are people all over the country that will like you for who you are, and also for how you look, walk with confidence in who you are and what you stand for, and you will make find friends and even more, also you always have frens here 😉

2
Ebbie8708 2 points ago +2 / -0

Oh I’m confident when it comes to working.

When I dive bomb my dept meeting about the vaccine mandate, everyone but me will be on webcam. I’m 5’2” on a tall day, that means I’m crazy and passionate about my principles. Mofos better watch out. ☦️🇺🇸🧐

2
BatmanForTrump 2 points ago +2 / -0

👏👏 that's the way, but don't just be confident in work, be confident in everything about you, your adversaries will use any cracks they can find to demean, insult and belittle, they will back off if they see that aura emanating

5
Ebbie8708 5 points ago +5 / -0

Oh I babysat for the siblings cuz I had to while they were out doing drugs and “clubbin’”.

And the first job was a year at a day care in high school. Cut me some slack Jack 😂

Took me a while to figure out likely labor shortage and not manager being Covid crazy.

Our Subway randomly closes the drive through window. I wondered why, then I saw that the manager has to close it when his staff don’t show up for work and he’s there alone.

NeoDragoon 15 points ago +15 / -0

I've made it a thing of going to Five Guys on my day off each week, if I get it. They've plastered their store advertising that they're hiring at over 13 an hour plus tips. Meaning it's more than I used to make driving a forklift in a factory!

9
M_A_G_A_2020 9 points ago +9 / -0

If you were there for longer than 6mo that factory was ripping you off man.

10
NeoDragoon 10 points ago +10 / -0

Over three years, but the overtime flowed like water so take home wasn't bad, and the job market at the time was HORRIBAD. The only one I really got ripped off at was an auto parts distributor, where the max rate on the floor was 11.50, on the forklift.

I have seen a lot of this, but I haven’t seen any wage/rate competition. It seems employers aren’t super motivated to get employees, they just want things to go back to normal. They will catch on very soon and start raising prices to pay more, which the raised prices will make the unemployed very uncomfortable as their stipend becomes less valuable. Not to mention the economy will be trashed in the process

1
SanFranShitty 1 point ago +2 / -1

Yep these people not working who are enjoying extended unemployment are going to be hurting soon…Inflation is going to destroy these people.

47
shadows_of_the_mind 47 points ago +47 / -0

Yeah, my frat brothers and their girlfriends… we have a house group chat going on discord and a channel exclusively for political discussion. Suffice to say, I am ashamed I was associated with these assholes and I’m rather estranged from my own house now. Basically they all turned into miserable socialist fucks who hate work, hate capitalism, hate America, absolutely hate Trump… just generally miserable people. And honestly, I try to be tolerant and respectful of other peoples opinions, like agree to disagree, but their revulsion for America is the breaking point for me. It’s easily the most egregious and despicable aspect of their belief system and it has been ingrained into their personalities. I can no longer tolerate their opinions and it really sucks that these are the only “friends” that I made in school. Granted, they weren’t always like this, and they knew I was right wing when I joined the house. But politics rarely came up. It did during the 2016 election and they’re like “ok Trump’s kind of a dick but whatever” and at least respected my opinions and didn’t let it get in the way of hanging out. They were center/center left and we got along just fine and politics never mattered. But in the wake of the scamdemic, the looming 2020 election, and summer of burn loot murder, they became super radicalized and effectively shunned anyone who is right of Lenin. They took a deep dive into literal communist theory, and I’m horrified at what they’ve turned into. I place a lot of the blame their girlfriends, who are basically 4th wave feminists if you could give it a name, and they are also on this discord server btw so they get to espouse their horrid views. Like this hot take: “you aren’t a real woman unless you’ve had an abortion” or “you aren’t a woman if you don’t support abortion”. My girlfriend absolutely hates all of them and thinks they’re super trashy.

I know this kinda turned into a venting session but to get to your question OP - While these guys all have cushy engineering jobs (and gfs included… we’re all STEM majors), they deride the companies they work for, complain about their jobs all the time, and are extremely happy that people are refusing to work around the country. They actually believe that communism works, unironically. Fuck all of them.

Tell her you don’t want anything between you two - be it a rubber or a pill - I wish I had done this when I was young - not having children is the only sad part in my marriage to my wonderful wife. Don’t hold back

I hope he fucking wakes up. Same for your friends. Best of luck staying sane with that shit....

4
America1stAndOnly 4 points ago +4 / -0

Did she get raped or did she just let alcohol provide an excuse to let our her inner whore? I've also noticed that many times these women that claim to have been raped while drunk, didn't even have sex. Thing you have to remember is that to women, it's a form of social currency. "I'm so desirable that he just couldn't keep his hands off of me!" Don't believe me, then just remember what the most popular books for women have been, Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey. Most popular porn category for women? Rape fantasies. It allows them to inflate their own ego, while also garnering sympathy and attention. Don't for a second think that women wouldn't lie about something like rape either. We all know they do and everyone here should at least remember the Kavanaugh character assassination.

2

Put yourself in the shoes of a non-expert ‘job-seeker’ (or even somebody highly trained but ‘pushed out’ of their last position, like an over-40s tech worker or a lower c-suite type):

Pay is effectively down 20% of what it was last year... even more when you consider the ever-rising extra costs you bear directly or indirectly working a job (gas, restaurant food, work clothes like boots & gloves or ‘professional’ wear, gadgets, supplies, even ‘comfort’ purchases like coffee, cigarettes, ‘energy drinks’, gifts, etc.) — you have less free time so running errands and trying to have ‘a life’ gets commiserately more fast paced and thus expensive, too. And wages were already set to squeeze people stuck in a debt trap — plus you are exposed to much more personal risks through bad health plans, legal liabilities, ‘ratings’ etc.

Then there’s the jobs. No long term commitment, ‘gig’-model structures, half of the listings are outright scams. The bosses that aren’t scamming you can’t help but be entitled self-important dickheads. The corporate nut jobs, union jobs, and public service sectors are political party hacks, or kowtowing to political brainwashing special interests of one kind or another. They all think they can put you in a slave mask and will likely force you to be a medical Guinea Pig, or maybe expose you to a bunch of disease, or both, depending on your viewpoint. You get no respect or enjoyment serving customers or interacting with coworkers, you will likely be both an unpaid compliance officer and a part-time janitor, and a robot or computer will be dictating your schedule and task management. The onboarding process will take a month and feel like applying for asylum, and then your first check will come and be taxed down to where it barely covered your costs. Oh, and if your white, well... you get to hear them demonize you at official ‘trainings’ and direct all the workplace anger at you; if you’re not white you get to listen to management treat you with more contempt than ever while also mouthing patronizing platitudes and using ”equity” as a magic word that means nothing they do has to be fair, every complaint you might raise is just ‘your feelings’, and all the self-dealing and training embezzlement is some kind of unquestionably virtuous act you’re not allowed to question.

Some people say ‘fuck it’, I’ll stay home and play vidya games, work on a hobby, or get ready to fight WW3, since the world’s about to collapse anyway. Some choose their own illusion of success (pro-gamer, food truck, personal shopper, ‘influencer’, artist, etc., or even going to school for that magic ‘cyber-security’ degree) for the illusion that a job tries to sell them. Others can’t find anything that will pay what they’re worth, and they can’t afford to disgrace their C.V. with a temp job if they hope to recapture their old place. Some can’t get a job because they’re a white male, or old, or have a injury or pains that don’t necessarily put them on disability but do require a boss with human compassion.

Government cheese and indebtedness keep the lights on and they see no real decrease in their standard of living — and they’re too ignorant, naive, and short-sighted to understand the economic or civic consequences. Many (maybe even most nowadays) have never experienced what anything approaching a true free market looks like.

The last time the world experienced something like this was the 14th century.

^^^THIS^^^ right here.

It's how you become management within six months. This wave of laziness has been a seriously big boom for people with work ethic and no college degree.

Survival of the fittest. Choosing the better long term goal than the short-sighted gains of freebies.

Yes, my sister is now panicking because she spent a year refusing to look for a job after being fired from a position that was considered "essential" so she could earn more on unemployment (picked multiple fights with her boss until she got fired - yeah, manipulative). Had several interviews in the last 3 weeks but no one has hired her yet. Frankly, she's a demo-rat and believes that it's okay to lie to get what you want (all her heroes do it so it must be okay...) Not sure that goes down too well in an interview. Her friends are also all unemployed and they are not looking for work. One ladies husband claims he is looking for a job in Texas as an engineer bug can't find one (I doubt he's actually looking.)

I’m an independent contractor so I can’t force myself to take the vaccine. I work in Hollywood and these fools are tripping over eachother to Vaxx themselves. Homey don’t play that.

So we will see how this goes. I will continue to work outside their system and watch as they all begin to suffer.

When it gets really bad, they will blame me and you more and more as they suffer the consequences of their actions.

NonyaDB 12 points ago +12 / -0

That area of the country fascinates me in a "David Attenborough Documentary" kind of way.
I kind of want to take a short-time temp job over there just to personally witness the decline of western civilization.
It's just so comfy/boring over here in Kansas, what everyone being so polite and carrying guns.
It to the point where I'm missing the not-so-fun times I had in Iraq with random-chance-of-death on a daily basis.

11
Apersonofinterest 11 points ago +11 / -0

You have to have a high tolerance to work here because Lefties are constantly bitching about Trump. You have no idea how hard it's been to bite my tongue all these years.

I became familiar with a 1984 term called "face crime" working here. That's where you don't have anything to say at all about politics but it's clear from you not saying anything that you are saying something. And that something is that you are a damn Nazi.

8
NonyaDB 8 points ago +8 / -0

I used to do civilian and contractor work with the federal government and manage German employees.
Your typical German employee working for the U.S. Government is just this side of Lenin.
The last time they were pro-America anything was when the Terminator was running for the Governor of California, and he wasn't even German (Austrian) but they claimed him anyway.
They bitched about everything. I used to pray we'd come under terrorist attack so I could finally be rid of them one way or another.

6
Apersonofinterest 6 points ago +6 / -0

The US Taxpayer pays for your benefits. If the USA wasn’t preventing the whole world from killing eachother the USA would have wonderful healthcare but for some reason where been over there for 80 years protecting your dumb asses because you can’t be trusted with big boy toys like tanks and guns” M That usually shuts them right up and shames them - un-ironically the favorite modern German emotion

I predict there won’t be enough jobs for all the people who suddenly decide they want one. That’s going to be fun to watch.

I’ve worked throughout the plandemic and although sometimes I wish I could of been paid to vacation for the last year in a half, it feels good to do honest work and be paid well for it.

I also believe in karma. These people are going to reap what they sow.

20
Green_New_Bullshit 20 points ago +20 / -0

I don't personally know people refusing to work, but I do know of people refusing. I lost my job due to Covid, but I still chat with the owner of my old company. He is struggling to get people to come back to certain job positions.

In telling me this he inadvertently was telling me that he was under-paying them to begin with, which I suspected.

All of those positions involve hard work in hot conditions, so if he was screwing them that badly then I don't think I'd consider going back to work there either.

Arby's is hiring at $16 and McDonalds at $17

Two years ago it wasn't possible to find people to join the trades entry level at $20-25. With fast food paying like it is, it's impossible.

8
Poomer1 [S] 8 points ago +8 / -0

Saw the sign on McD's in Rapid City SD, said "$19/hr can start tomorrow, management positions."

7
Yam_nation 7 points ago +8 / -1

With wages like that, big Macs are going to be 20$. I seldom eat out now, I refuse to feed that system money.

4
Wearyman 4 points ago +4 / -0

I have two disabled kids (Autism) and they ADORE McDonalds. While I don't indulge them on it too much, we used to go there at least once a month. When they were in their mid-teens it was about 25 bucks to feed the whole family from there. 5 years later and it's almost 50 bucks for the exact same meals.

Needless to say, we almost never eat there now. McDonalds is a rare and expensive treat.

4
kyblugrass 4 points ago +4 / -0

These days I'd say McD's is overpriced for what you get, they're approaching Wendy's or Culvers in terms of cost for a slightly above Rally's level of quality.

1
SanFranShitty 1 point ago +1 / -0

$50???

Geez!

1
Wearyman 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yep. Rounds to $10 a person for a family of 5.

Funny, I remember a blues song where the signer sang about buying a woman a "Ten Dollar Dinner" that she didn't appreciate. Who knew he had time traveled to 2021 and bought her a Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese meal?

1
residue69 1 point ago +1 / -0

Use the app and place separate orders on each persons phone to maximize the deals. Each phone might need a different payment method/card. It's been awhile since I've used it.

Unfortunately, their app collects a lot of data and won't run on a rooted phone. Disable it's ability to send notifications and freeze/disable it when not in use if you can. It wakes up and tries to collect and send data whenever it can.

Back in the day you could use simple hacks to get all the free quarter pounders you could eat.

6
kyblugrass 6 points ago +6 / -0

Yeah, its slowly been a trickle out of guys in facility maintenence and similar work, which often time is a pay cut, but offers steadier hours and a more consistent work schedule. With fast food paying what it is, I wonder if a restaurant can budget enough hours at those wages. I suspect most fast food places are cant afford to pay people most of its staffers more 30 hrs/wk. maybe less.

In N Out in California is paying $19-20/hr.

I see the signs every time I go there.

7
DX5_ 7 points ago +7 / -0

I don't understand. The cost of living is very high...so the answer is to quit your job and instead make nothing? How does that work? How do you pay for housing and food?

11
Squeaker 11 points ago +11 / -0

Cost of living isn't so high when you can't be evicted for nonpayment of rent, get extra unemployment from the federal govt which ends up topping out what you made working 40 hrs a week, child tax credits for every kid, welfare, food stamps, etc. You make more sitting at home playing Xbox and smoking dope.

2
DX5_ 2 points ago +2 / -0

I agree. So the problem isn't businesses not paying enough, the problem is the govt paying people too much to do nothing.

1
Squeaker 1 point ago +1 / -0

Agreed. I missed that you were replying to the original comment that was blaming businesses and not govt. It's always been about big daddy govt.

So, unemployment? The leftist argument that "businesses aren't paying enough" only works for about a month. After that, it becomes a question of "How the fuck are these people still getting by without a job?"

Just spent a few weeks in Tennessee checking it out. Planning to move there too. I’m torn between Chattanooga and Knoxville areas. Very nice country. But I saw my fair share of meth heads too. Gotta be careful no matter where you go. Any recommendations for places to check out?

We've had something similar. Among management, they have also mentioned they are afraid some engineers won't return to our work centers once covid staffing restrictions are relieved. To boot, I already know some people are pissed about returning to masks.

1
FreddyFingers 1 point ago +1 / -0

I got a mid year 5% raise because they're afraid of losing the engineers they have.

Congratulations, with inflation you're only going to lose 4% now.

In accounting and finance the hiring market is tight right now and very competitive

16
Apersonofinterest 16 points ago +16 / -0

I was for a minute. All the jobs around me require the jab or face masks but I just landed a job that will enable me to keep on carrying on.

Sorry but masks and jabs are a dealbreaker for me.

Feels good to be earning an honest living again. That’s all I want really.

3
MAGAguitar 3 points ago +3 / -0

What did you find that didn’t require COVID poison or masks?

4
Apersonofinterest 4 points ago +4 / -0

Tbh I was already working for this company even when they couldn’t pay me. Hollywood is weird. There are a whole lot of people who work in this industry on comp. (if you know what I mean) Its really a job where you can make a whole lot of money but you better save it because who knows how the market will go. I’ve been working for free for months. But all of that is about to pay off.

2
MAGAguitar 2 points ago +2 / -0

I do know. It’s deluge or drought much of the time there. Saying no to one gig and you may not get asked for a loooog time. But good on you to be looking at a payoff.

4
Apersonofinterest 4 points ago +4 / -0

I made a shitload of money the last time we were on the upswing. It actually helped big time because it was right before all this COVID BS. My Ex-Wife hates me now because no sooner had we seperated, I picked up this job and she is a social climber. I paid off all my debt and purchased all of my property in cash plus stacked cash in savings and elsewhere. She was not pleased. Story of my marriage. Foul Cunt.

FormerGraveheart 6 points ago +6 / -0

Take my wife, please!

15
M_A_G_A_2020 15 points ago +15 / -0

Unfortunately, yes.

My city is an open air mental asylum. People cash in their first paycheck, burn it on drugs and never show up again.

My previous job was paying 17/h to literally push buttons on graveyard shift. You didn't even need a GED to get hired. People would still stop showing up after a month or so.

Of course in addition to that you have some junkie ex-boyfriend showing up to harass his ex-girlfriend, making her quit in fear, or when someone would straight up get fired for showing up drunk or high.

I can't wait to leave this place.

3
MAGAguitar 3 points ago +3 / -0

What was the graveyard gig?

2
M_A_G_A_2020 2 points ago +2 / -0

Production Assistant.

On a regular day you would operate a press, a shrink wrapper, or a vacuum sealing machine.

Seriously, that's it. 6pm-6am shift which means you get 3 and 4-day weeks off.

i am in canada but my fat sister and nephew wont go back to work. they are sitting on their asses getting checks .at my work we cant get employees.we usually have 6-8 guys its down to 2. the pay is good but people dont want to work.i talk to our contractors and they are in the same boat. there is lots of work but they dont have the staff to even bid on the jobs.they can barely handle the jobs they have got . this has been going on for a year and a half. it has to end

12
Simple_Doot 12 points ago +12 / -0

I don't know them but I see the fruits of their lack of labor all over my city.

12
MarcusAurelius 12 points ago +12 / -0

I do. Because of the wonders of limitless unemployment. I know a few people who used to work things like fast food/cashier/etc, who aren't going back to formal work, despite there being tons of openings.

They make almost as much as they do with unemployment then they would working something reported to the state. They can also get some side hustles, like hitting up garage/estate sales, and re-selling on ebay without reportable income.

So, why work, when Netflix awaits?

I know of a few that don't work. The lower to mid level a ton of jobs. Higher range 100k its not that many. Not if its a good job. With this new big push to force the job things will change. I got a whole rant I could go on. But will not right now. Many are lazy right now.

I know people flipping burgers who after food stamps, extra food stamps because of covid, monthly baby making payments, spouses extra unemployment benefits they make more than I do. Hell my salary is double of theirs. But they cleaning up. So why work? Go screw make babies.

I got laid off at the start. Hustled and busted my butt to survive. I see these people getting new cars, houses, etc. This is a socialists dream.

10
LucifersPede 10 points ago +10 / -0

Plot Twist. It seems like everyone here has posted that they are hiring, but none is getting call backs after putting in application and submitting resume. We have very little factory work here, but they have signs up wanting people to start tomorrow, but I don't know one person who's gotten called. People with good employment records and should easily meet requirements. These jobs have been posted since May/June.

4
AKGG 4 points ago +4 / -0

I had this same problem! Worked in healthcare and desperately wanted out, applied non stop the last 7 months and never heard back. The one I did hear back I took, but my coworkers constantly call out to the point the boss is giving an extra $50 a week to anyone that bothers to show up.

3
2ScoopsMAGA 3 points ago +3 / -0

My wife is a nurse and constantly applying to hundreds of job openings and never hears back. She has four years of experience. Totally baffling. We recently moved to the area so she doesn’t have a network to get in. That must be the only explanation.

2
AKGG 2 points ago +2 / -0

I was told I was unqualified to work for a liquor store near me! I’m doing cleaning now, they take literally anyone. Good luck, stay strong

7
NeoDragoon 7 points ago +7 / -0

I'm a teamster on a loading dock, our weekly 40hr takehome pay is pretty much what the government was adding on to unemployment last year. We've been short staffed for about six months now, and we had a guy "NOPE!" out his first day before he even got out on the floor picking. It's not a bad job, but it is physical, and you do have to actually work.

I don't even want to think about what it must be like at the old plastics factory, where I used to be able to do my Gunnery Sargent Hartman impression on rookies. Because we got them alternating Mondays for all four rotating 12 hour shifts, and were lucky to keep one out of every group after 30 days.

7
FloppyDisks 7 points ago +7 / -0

Cat....you stool my jerb! Sorry if you aren't a south park fan. I built train locomotives for GE(mainly stators 6' around, traction motors) and drive motors for quarry size dump trucks(the ones wider than a highway). Yeah I am looking for work, I broke my back and it healed wrong. I want nothing more than to go back to work. I can not stand for more than 15min or go to a store...yet I am supposed to take a job as a librarian? Fuck that. I'm fucked

4
NonyaDB 4 points ago +4 / -0

No jobs out there for you to train others to do what you once did?
Building big-ass motors like that sounds like backbreaking yet rewarding work.
You're doing something with your hands that you can SEE and helps fuel America.

My firm needs STEM, but I feel that's always been short. Haven't met any new engineers or scientists who choose to be unemployed in this market. Although, there are a ton of people retiring at the moment.

13
M_A_G_A_2020 13 points ago +13 / -0

People at 30/h and up have to actually work. It's impossible to shift into collecting government paychecks without taking a significant hit in lifestyle.

Just another reason why commies need to demolish the middle class.

2
Wearyman 2 points ago +2 / -0

It's been the case for YEARS that if you make less than 60k a year that you would be better off (Financially, not morally or ethically) staying on Unemployment and gaming the system. With the boosts in Unemployment bennies, that number has risen, although I don't know how much.

I have zero interest in going on unemployment, but right now if I had to go back to the office to work instead of working from home it would be a hardship with as much as gas costs and with the cost of babysitting. (Both my wife and I work in order to maintain a home in super expensive New York State.) And that's to say nothing of Mask mandates and my employer demanding to know my Jab status and the governor of my state asking all the businesses in the state to act as his personal Jab enforcers.

I am dreading having to go back to the office.

I got tired of applying for Engineering jobs. Was sick of seeing entry level listings that demanded I have 5 years experience. Yeah, that's a meme, and it's a meme because it's what truly happens. Combine that with checking boxes that say I'm A) White, B) Male, and C) a veteran and I don't even get calls for interviews. STEM fields have become as pozzed by diversity hiring practices as every other field.

2
2ScoopsMAGA 2 points ago +2 / -0

My engineering manager can’t fill engineering jobs as a big company. Said he’s never had so few applications.

Yes, many of my libtard friends from high school are doing that. They're making up BS about how they want a "living wage" (whatever TF that means) while collecting unemployment. They don't say they can't get a job. They say they are only open to jobs paying a living wage which according to them is like $30/hr for someone doing a half-assed job stocking the shelves.

Try a roommate situation. Look at your expenses and make hard decisions. Consider moving out. If you can’t support yourself on $60k/year then you’ve got some priority issues.

There not a single field without openings anywhere in the south. Drug addicts and couch trash are everywhere.

5
ShadeCat 5 points ago +5 / -0

Yes I know three of them.

My aunt who I used to love and deeply respect has gone full lazy delusional fuck.

I'm starting to she's always been this way but before her now recently deceased husband she had could take care of herself.

Sadly she's now worse as she has found a fat fucking loser who is just as lazy who also happens to have rich parents and now she's gold digging.

That shit disgusts me.

I was born with several life conditions that make hard to work. In fact some people who have my medical conditions literally can't work. Even so I have a full-time job with ok benefits.

She has nothing wrong with her other than being a fat ass and still refuses to get a job.

Sorry for the personal rant but that shit pisses me off so fucking much.
