It's shockingly simple to start...

Everyone thinks they need to be living in a crazy off grid castle asap but unless you are loaded you don't have a chance in hell of building it and moving in anytime soon.

Just start super simple and slowly improve as you go.

Bottom line is if you can "glamp" on a piece of land for a year and observe the property in all different weather, you'll be able to come up with a much more informed plan to build the property out exactly as you want.

Watch the way the water flows, where the sun rises and sets, where your property gets a good breeze, or where bugs are less of a problem...

just kinda let the property tell you what it wants to be.

that'll take at least a year... and you'll have a comfortable place to figure it all out.

Starting out, if you build the polebarn with the roof pitched right, it's going to be perfect for solar gain. As long as you have the battery capacity you can do pretty much whatever you want. the bigger you build the polebarn the more room you have to expand your array down the road.

It's a huge expense but it's one of the legs of the tripod.

If you build yourself an insulated pole barn and ran hookups inside to the camper or RV you could honestly stop there for years till you got sick of it and be living a far better life in the sticks than most people in any major city for far less per month.

I'm not afraid of the building. I'm actually looking forward to that. It's obtaining the land that's got me. I live in Florida, and I like the area I'm in. I wouldn't want to move more than an hour away.

you can try this https://www.landwatch.com/

florida is rough... most of the coasts are difficult to find cheap land but florida is a little easier than a lot of it. just try to find the least populated counties and you'll find cheaper land.
