The "youths" pushed passed the rent-a-security entrance point and went down into the main part of the mall and then started chanting. Riot policed arrived likely via the underground/metro system. The then were headed up to secure the entrance and figure out what to do next. Meanwhile they received a lot of booing.
As for the masks, they are still very common in Paris. Not required on the streets, but they used to be, so still common to see.

I have yet to see a police officer disobey orders. Never seen one go against his fellow officers, no matter what, arresting innocent, beating children for not wearing masks, beating women for no medical passport.
I've talked to many of our local cops, back when we had a state wide mandate for the face masks, even outside, which was all stripped when it was ruled that they all violated the state's constitution. Even at the height of the early panic, they all told me that they weren't going to enforce the mask thing, and they weren't going to remove any unmasked from businesses. I didn't speak to all of them, just the ones I saw (lots come by where I work, and many others deal with my family as my family breeds German Shepherds.) But I was pleased with how they seemed to realize the difference between Mandates, Orders, and LAWS, and which of those three they're obligated to enforce.
I also made it clear in our conversations that I and my family, as well as my friends and co-workers, know that our duty is to follow the LAW, as well as the LAWFUL orders of a police officer, so in a situation wherein an Officer is acting UNlawfully, they are in fact merely a uniformed criminal and so we have no obligation to obey and indeed a duty to instead obey the LAW, which includes the right to defend ourselves and places of business.
Because they're my friends, to be sure, but they need to be reminded that they work not for the state, but for US.
The system intentionally makes it a difficult choice for cops to go against orders, or take another job for that matter. If they leave or get fired they lose tenure, and instead of retiring at 50, have to start over at the bottom of the ranks.
