Their belief is Covid has caused or exacerbated this other illness making it necessary for their hospitalization. They don’t / can’t know this but they are making the assumption specifically to inflate the number to make it as scary as possible for the uninformed public.
It's a lot like counting every positive covid test as a "new case" even though it could be the same person testing multiple times in order to get a negative test to go back to college or work.
Sounded like they said that when someone recovers and is moved to a different floor, but is still in the hospital, they want to count that as a "covid patient" instead of a "recovered" patient, in order to increase the count of current covid patients to make the number scarier.

I can speak to this since it's something I am very familiar with. Basically, there are government grants and private grants that can only be applied for if you cross a certain numeric threshold of patients per month/quarter/year. So hospitals, clinics, and health networks do everything they can to track the numbers for everything so they can apply and get grant money. For example, if a grant exists to incentivize smoking cessation education (and it does) they will track every time they talk to a smoker about stopping smoking. This results in a payout if it's over a certain threshold, more so if it's a significant improvement over previous years. Now apply this to pretty much every facet of healthcare, and you have an inkling of an idea what is going on. For COVID-19 patients you have a handful of grants tied to how many patients are treated by your facility, so I suspect that this is happening because the numbers are actually falling off and they want to inflate them to bump up the numbers of patients they count as having Wuhan Flu in their care and continue to get that grant funding. This in turn allows a greater opportunity for marketing because they can point to the revenue streams as proof they are doing well as a business and can take on more.
They are evil scumbags abusing incentives like democrats always do when leeching federal tax dollars is an option.

Now apply this to pretty much every facet of healthcare, and you have an inkling of an idea what is going on. For COVID-19 patients you have a handful of grants tied to how many patients are treated by your facility, so I suspect that this is happening because the numbers are actually falling off and they want to inflate them to bump up the numbers of patients they count as having Wuhan Flu in their care and continue to get that grant funding. This in turn allows a greater opportunity for marketing because they can point to the revenue streams as proof they are doing well as a business and can take on more. They are evil scumbags abusing incentives like democrats always do when leeching federal tax dollars is an option.
The benefit is they get a feeling of self righteousness by pushing their ideology on us simpletons that aren't smart enough to make informed decisions for ourselves....
yep this is literally the talking script of everyone pro-vaxx. They ignore the 99.8% survival rate and tell you you're literally "going to die hooked up to a ventilator if you don't get jabbed and contract covid" there are even ads portraying that. Scared people wishing they got the vax now on the verge of their last breath hooked up to a ventilator in the hospital alone with somber music.

At this point, doctors are the new auto mechanics. Take your car in for a discount oil change, then they find at least 10 things that need to be fixed. Or the never ending "check engine" lights. However, instead of a car it's your health and your body. I started getting skeptical when I would show up for a doctor appointment and they ask "why are you here?" I'm like, you were the one who made the appointment for me to come back in six months.
Someone needs to inform the republicans in congress that having knowledge of whats going on and not doing anything about it puts them in the same category as those in the video, and when it comes time they will suffer the same fate.
