Facebook IS the deep state. I wouldn't trust anything that's going on atm. They're likely up to something, rather than the victim of some attack.

Facebook isn’t necessarily the deep state. It’s still a private company that is very slightly resisting the communist takeover of their company. Conservative still have somewhat of a platform and can organize. That’s why this is happening to them. Guaranteed after today all of the purges that happened on YouTube will happen on Facebook.

2

Fuck blowing the whistle. If you work at Facebook and you want to do something, perhaps consider something a little more… hardware oriented.

29
DiscoverAFire 29 points ago +30 / -1

If you know the right things to leak, that can be way more expensive for them. I'm sure all data has offsite cold storage, so you can't electronically burn them to the ground.

Also, nothing says you can't mix and match exit strategies.

3
mugatucrazypills 3 points ago +3 / -0

There are modes of data corruption that are unrecoverable. Well a man can dream.

1
DiscoverAFire 1 point ago +1 / -0

There are, but you have to remember that there are burned DVDs of all their data in filing cabinets down a mineshaft somewhere. And those are going to be harder to corrupt.

1
mugatucrazypills 1 point ago +1 / -0

by the time they upload that and put it back togther Facebook will have fewer users than MySpace

Damaging their hardware will do nothing - it would be like throwing ice cubes at the sun.

You would need a very sophisticated software solution to effect real change.

Or effective legal action.

10
FireannDireach 10 points ago +10 / -0

Such as? Torching a laser printer? Their data centers are all over the world, most of the employees don't have access to them, and are in extremely secure locations - I think there's 15 of them in the US, I know there's one in Oregon, and Utah. What, you think Facebook is run off a computer sitting in a closet in SF?

So many eggs, so few baskets.

It is likely that their badge system is tied to the same system of routers that went down. Ooops, single point of failure.

127
FetAnka 127 points ago +127 / -0

Brilliant, let's centralize the door lock system on servers behind the doors locked by the system. REEEE

37
Regardless 37 points ago +37 / -0

Without any failsafes.

82
ChrisTheSoberITGuy 82 points ago +83 / -1

IT security here, not for Facebook, but I can attest it's common practice for these systems to be seperate and even hosted in different buildings, if not different states depending on size of the company.

Having your card readers go down at the same time as your DNS service is impossible. They're completely unrelated.

Something is happening, likely something that will never be explained or have any consequences, like Hillary's server.

16
gawd-emperor 16 points ago +18 / -2

Correct, work at a tiny bank, very very tiny, they have badges done same way, not a chance this goes down easily, but dns corruption might mess up anything

13
DoesItWorkAlready 13 points ago +14 / -1

You are an American and your parents probably told you "don't put your eggs all in one basket".

The people running FB day to day are not Americans, and don't have the cultural background that you have and thus make mistakes like this.

How do I know the badge system is linked to their router or DNS issues? Facebook is their own registrar, and their registrar is also down:

** server can't find whois.registrarsafe.com: SERVFAIL

Too many eggs in one basket

7
ukr567 7 points ago +7 / -0

It is far more complex. It is more like do not get your eggs on the same planet.

Complexity of Facebook or Google system is far beyond any other system ever created by humans. There are so many unforeseen interactions..

They have backup channels for coms like IRC that get tested for EVERY engineer annually, those are also down somehow. Shit hit the fan on planetary level here. Layer upon layer upon layer of redundancy are all dead and buried. It is either a truly a mad bug/coincidence or state level attack that makes anything ever done before a child’s play.

What I would give to be in one of those conference calls..

4
Regardless 4 points ago +4 / -0

I hope they are leaked. The level of panic would pair well with Chianti.

0
Xuvial 0 points ago +2 / -2

The people running FB day to day are not Americans, and don't have the cultural background that you have and thus make mistakes like this.

I don't know whether people know this, but teams of engineers with decades of qualifications/experience/etc are running these systems. As much as much we want to believe that they're just a bunch of bumbling idiots who accidentally threw together a worldwide infrastructure...that's not the case.

3
DoesItWorkAlready 3 points ago +3 / -0

And you don't have that kind of data, so you just made your data up.

1

Xuvial 0 points ago +1 / -1

Well if that's true, then all IT engineers must be out of work and all tech infrastructure must be designed/maintained/upgraded just by pure fluke.

1
DoesItWorkAlready 1 point ago +1 / -0

I've interviewed at facebook over the years.

The trend is not their friend.

And you don't have that kind of data, so you just made your data up.

5
TheDTOMDon 5 points ago +6 / -1

Agreed. Your card access will work even if you unplug the network cable. You might not get an audit trail of events until the system is reconnected but the card controllers don’t need to call the mothership every time someone badges in.

Now, if they’re running old ass c-cure 8 or something and someone disconnects the application server with the stupid encrypted usb dongle then the system can go into lockdown. It was a dumb idea and new systems don’t do this.

3
Brokenmatrix2021 3 points ago +3 / -0

Dongles gonna dongle.

1
brimshae 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes, that's the way a smart tech would do it....

4
MustBeTrump 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yeah I suspect it's something like, "data breach" / hack (whether that's legit or a cover for something else, I don't know) and then proper security protocols would be to suspend all staff with certain access from accessing certain things, being cleared on an individual basis.

It's very unlikely that Facebook's servers and buildings are under some kind of sophisticated cyber attack.

Now I say it though, attacking Facebook with a bullshit cyber attack, something that the normies will actually experience rather than just hearing about, would be a great way to usher in some new kind of government/"more secure" internet.

2
Regardless 2 points ago +2 / -0

6
TheDTOMDon 6 points ago +6 / -0

Card access is cheaper over the long term vs dealing with keys. Someone ends up with a key they shouldn’t have and you could potentially have to re-key the entire facility. Someone ends up with a badge they shouldn’t have and it can become useless plastic with a keystroke. There are typically physical keys issued to security and management.

If people are locked out of Facebook card access, it’s 100% on purpose. Even if power to the building is cut you can still get in.

As quick as everyone is to crack jokes about Facebook (rightfully) going under, something about all of this is very fishy. The information provided by the whistle-blower was less worrisome than what the Project Veritas whistle-blower had to say, yet the difference in reaction is like night and day.

For them to shut down their servers and keep employees out tells me they're probably trying to hide something while it still can be hidden.

Also IT pro here. I've never worked for any large company where both systems are tied into the same network. That would be a massive liability and security flaw.

The best part about it is that this is their entire world. And it's gone.

They have no fucking idea what to do with themselves.

14
SideWinderGX 14 points ago +14 / -0

Every minute Facebook's garbage is down, people realize a) there needs to be a replacement for messenger/event sharing, and b) they don't need Facebook because it is utter shit. Fuck 'em.

14
Dratchev 14 points ago +15 / -1

What's all this, then?

7
Annpi 7 points ago +7 / -0

Maybe Zuckabuck should spend more time working on his employees building access and less time meddling in elections...

7
TheMadManDidItAgain 7 points ago +7 / -0

Spend less time meddling in elections, and less time smoking meat. You know, he's smoking meat!

3
Annpi 3 points ago +3 / -0

1
sordfysh 1 point ago +1 / -0

Gives a new meaning to "pulling out ribs" so you can "smoke your meat". I mean, when I'm smoking meat, you can expect that I'm gonna get it all nice and wet or maybe I'll just have a dry rub with a nice jerk. Depends on what I'm workin with.

Either their superiors have locked them out on purpose...or someone somewhere has found a way to ransomware their door security protocols.

There is sufficient reason to think the superiors are doing this. They would NEVER admit they were subject to a ransomware attack.

But ransomware attacks like this are the way forward against these tech giants...

2
