U cant vax for a virus. None of them work...

18
CmonPeopleGetReal 18 points ago +18 / -0

Actually you can. This Covid vax is bullshit though

21
War_Hamster 21 points ago +21 / -0

Probably because it isn't really a "vaccine".

-2
orange_dit -2 points ago +2 / -4

Some of them are. But many use experimental technologies and none of them have been tested long term.

3
okboomer59 3 points ago +3 / -0

Which ones are vaccines?

1
orange_dit 1 point ago +1 / -0

The ones that are not based on MRNA. You can look it up. But even those are experimental.

3
Jackhererer 3 points ago +4 / -1

How come after 100 years of trying to create a vax for the flu we still don't have 1? Dont say big pharm won't allow it either.

17
Standingoak 17 points ago +18 / -1

Because the virus mutation rate is to high. None of it is stable enough to knock it out before it changes.

7
anotherthing 7 points ago +7 / -0

That's not entirely why. The main reason is that the flu is zoonotic, just like COVID19. You can vaccinate every single human with the three most likely strains to spread during a season, and it's not going to do anything for the following year because the virus will still exist within the animal population.

5
ThunderSizzle 5 points ago +5 / -0

Oh fuck. PEDA would never let us Vax the animals. Might be too dangerous for the animals

COVID19

Damn rab manufactured bat fru

Standingoak 0 points ago +1 / -1

Thank You , There are many ,so far insurmountable , reasons a Flu vaccine has been extremely limited .. It's why they want to create a false fear porn need for annual Flu shots.

1
anotherthing 1 point ago +1 / -0

Flu vaccines are somewhat of a guess. They take three strains that they think will be the most likely to be the three biggest of the next year, and make a shot based on that.

0
Standingoak 0 points ago +1 / -1

So you are saying that the approximate success rate of 35 to 50% in some years may be leading to more virulent strains of Flu ? Just as vaccine failure in Merek's Disease where the vaccine created a bigger problem than it was designed to stop?

10
Aquamine-Amarine 10 points ago +10 / -0

Viruses mutate. They always will. You can't stop it, all you can do is make your immune system strong enough to fight it.

3
that_sound 3 points ago +3 / -0

Antigenic Drift - accumulation of random mutations that occur gradually when the virus copies itself. This is what most people think of when thinking about mutations. This does occur in Influenza and is the large part of why the Flu is different every year.

Antigenic Shift - sudden and often drastic change of antigen. Occurs with viruses that have segmented genomes, when different strains of a virus or different viruses are in the same cell and exchange segments of their genomes, and be dramatically different than anything your immune system has ever seen before. That's called reassortment. This is why the Flu can sometimes be really bad. All Influenza viruses have segmented genomes.

Lame analogy - You have a book that everyone wants to read. You keep your book, and can only give your friends copies of the book. You make lots of copies. Antigenic Drift changes a letter or some letters of the book. Antigenic Shift changes whole chapters from some other book that only birds read (see below).

There are 4 types of Influenza viruses. A, B, C, and D. A is mainly found in birds (and also some other animals including pigs). B and C infect humans (and pigs). D infects cattle (and pigs). Note the pigs.

Sidenote: some places keep lots and lots of birds (chickens, ducks, etc) packed in tightly with lots and lots of pigs. The Flu generally comes out of Asia every year. No idea if these 2 things are related.

In any given year, you're dealing with a B or C that has antigenically drifted some from last year. But those pigs are mixing Bs and Cs with As, and usually not much happens, but occasionally we see a severe pandemic. Type A strains have the potential to make us really sick because we are generally not exposed to them, but they are made for birds, so they don't (can't) infect us (or infect us in a way that spreads to other humans). The more A-like the result is, the less likely it is to spread in humans. But occasionally antigenic shift finds that sweet spot and one that makes us really sick also spreads easily.

Great response with detailed. Was hoping to get response from person who said you can vax for a virus.

1
CmonPeopleGetReal 1 point ago +1 / -0

because of the rapidly mutating genetics of the influenza virus.

Vaccines that do work: Measels, Mumps, Rubella, Polio, Hepatitis Smallpox, Yellow Fever, Chicken Pox.

All viruses.

We have a seasonal vax which works. Have yet to get the flu since I started getting the flu vax, but as standingoak says it mutates too quickly to eradicate it.

11
Jackhererer 11 points ago +11 / -0

The seasonal flu shot is only good for previous strains, and people still catch those flu strains after taking the shot.

1
Tyrone_biggums 1 point ago +2 / -1

The only time I ever got the flu was after having taken the vaccine. My anecdote trumps yours!

You can't vax stupid...actually you can with a jab to the brain

Also strange flu season always follows flu shots, and the year no one got a flu shot “no one got the flu”

12
akira2501 12 points ago +12 / -0

We have more health care than actual health problems. Well.. problems that couldn't be fixed by just having an appropriate diet.

The federal government needs to be reduced to about 1/3 to 1/10 of it's current size. We don't need it. We have states. The states have the internet. The grand "centralized bureaucracy" experiment needs to die, it failed to adapt. It's a worthless boat anchor that we insist on dragging around with us.

1
highlandparker 1 point ago +1 / -0

Very well put!

0
Drainthecommies 0 points ago +2 / -2

How is it strange that they administer a flu vax before the season begins. Flu season was around long before the flu vax.

6
KingOfTards 6 points ago +7 / -1

We have a mental health issue at the very top.

Winner45 6 points ago +6 / -0

The initial scare of COVID was that no one had natural immunity and there were no vaccines/shots available.

Now we have both natural immunity and allegedly effective vaccines. This is now akin to the flu, and probably has a higher survival rate than the flu at this moment.

3
Tyrone_biggums 3 points ago +3 / -0

The initial scare of COVID was that no one had natural immunity and there were no vaccines/shots available.

But even this was not true, as a substantial fraction of people harbor pre-existing T cell immunity to sars-cov-2 gained as a consequence of exposure to the myriad coronaviruses that have existed in the environment for thousands of years. We knew this in July 2020.

dagoat4l 5 points ago +5 / -0

The flu isn't no joke. It mutates fast. Kills many people and overruns hospitals yearly. Just research it. But only last year when they cooked the books so no flu. They said it was coivd. China I'm sure is working on a strain to mess us all up.

4
Yignuced 4 points ago +4 / -0

Never had a flu shot in my life and also never had the flu. I’m sticking with that course of action.

1
MamaLlama4DJT2020 1 point ago +1 / -0

I’ve had flu 3 or 4 times in 50 years, but I’m never getting that shot. Risks outweigh possible benefits.

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT, do not submit, do not quit, do not take the jab, but band together and fight. https://speakingaboutnews.com/federal-judge-in-texas-halts-united-airlines-enforcement-of-employee-vaccine-mandate/

We have the numbers, and we can win against employers once they realize lawsuits are coming! File a restraining order first against unconstitutional mandates. Besides, the mandate is fake, Biden signed absolutely nothing!

2
sustainable_saltmine 2 points ago +2 / -0

We don't have a flu vaccine. We have a "flu shot" that most of the time misses and you get sick anyway

1
Final212 1 point ago +1 / -0

It's not a flu vaccine. It is a flu shot. Although, with the new definitions, it might be a vaccine now.

1
SteelDriver 1 point ago +1 / -0

"That was different."

Ya' but...ya' but...ya' but.....the flu was not purposely designed to murder us by the millions.

Like the "new" math....they're now practicing the "new" medicine.....one person gets sick...isolate everyone else....or if I get sick....it's your fault so you don't get to work...
