The only way to Heaven is through Jesus.

Did Powell truly believe in Jesus and thus believe Jesus used deception to get what he wanted?

Isn’t deception a tactic of Satan? Why would Someone who loves Jesus use a tactic of Satan?

Not saying Powell is in Hell or Heaven. Just saying his actions and heart speak to where he most likely is

Yes it is the Catholics and Orthodox Christians who have strayed and not the Protestants who stripped books out of the Bible to suit Martin Luther's vision in the 16th century. Luther had some good points but spare me about straying off the path when a random monk has the divine authority to strip books and just wave away inconvenient scripture like "Faith without works is dead" from the Bible that had been present for over 1,000 years.

COLIN CANCER: “From his earliest days as a junior officer in Vietnam through his acquiescence to George W. Bush’s Iraq adventure, Colin Powell repeatedly... failed to stand up against actions that were immoral, unethical or reckless. At every turning point, Powell protected his career above all else.

Yet, Powell’s charisma – and the fact that he is a prominent and successful African-American – have protected him from any clear-eyed assessment of his true record. Even when Powell has publicly defended war crimes, such as the shooting of defenseless “military-aged males” in Vietnam, national journalists have preferred to focus on Powell’s sparkling style over his troubling substance.”

If you go to Purgatory, you will ultimately end up in Heaven. You won't go to Hell, but you will essentially spend time paying reparations for your sinful acts on earth. People who ask for forgiveness at the very last moment likely end up here, and praise God for his mercy.

OnlyCaleb 7 points ago +9 / -2

On many things we protestants and Catholics have theological agreement. Such as who Jesus is.... and other important issues...but purgatory is not a biblical concept and there's several other important areas where the Catholic church has gone astray by not following sound Biblical adherence.

The Bible's clear, when you die, you either go to heaven because you trusted and believed in Jesus, or hell because you are dying without forgiveness for sins that comes through faith in Christ.

As an aside, I have no opinion about colin powell. Many here are pronouncing hell on him and condemning him. That's wrong, and it's best not to speculate on someone's eternal place, as only God knows their heart. And someone could have repented the day before they die and we had no idea that it happened, and now we're condemning someone that God has forgiven.

God says only He is the judge of men's hearts and we're not the ones who condemn to hell or save them.

Klown_Schwab 2 points ago +2 / -0

The Bible's clear, when you die, you either go to heaven because you trusted and believed in Jesus, or hell because you are dying without forgiveness for sins that comes through faith in Christ.

is it? I thought you're just dead for a while until the the day of resurrection and final judgement.

your soul doesn't leave your body and go directly to heaven or hell.

that was a later addition around the time of St Augustine, borrowing from platonic philosophy and Greek soul/body dualism.

if you're just strictly reading the bible the distinction between soul/body isn't as clear.

OnlyCaleb 1 point ago +1 / -0

Here's a guy who did this series called "evidence for the Bible".

In one of the parts, I think later on, he addresses the belief that the Bible was changed or revised or whatever at a later date. I implore you check it out as he's comprehensive, but the point is we have early manuscripts close to the time the New Testament was written. This is just something atheists say and repeat with no foundation.

In fact that council they cite often, wasn't even to discuss the canon of the scripture, just to affirm their position on the trinity I think it was.

But yes, we will be resurrected to new bodies, Christians in glorified perfect eternal bodies, and non-Christians with vessels of wrath. Nobody knows what that's going to look like for either side, all we know it's going to be amazing for one, and horrible for the other.

But the waiting place, or where someone goes until the final judgement isn't purgatory, it's just to my understanding the purely spiritual, or ethereal version of what's going to be.

Christians will enter paradise, but God will make a new heaven and earth after the judgement and we'll be in paradise physically as well.

Non Christians will be in torment, and after it will be the lake of fire.

The Bible says "It is appointed once for a man to die, and then comes judgement".

Purgatory is this idea that it's a place that's better than hell, but still painful and horrible where Christians (and maybe good people of other religions depending on what Catholic you talk to) who weren't quite good enough to go straight to heaven exist until they're cleansed and made right.

That's the world's view of morality, that views God as not as good as He is, and man as better than He is, so we can work our way to God.

In reality, only the atoning sacrifice of Jesus could make us right with God, and we're declared righteous on that day we accept Jesus, and our position is one that is justified or just-as-if-i'd never sinned. Even though we still sin (though less and less as we're sanctified and convicted over our sin) because we're fallen and our sin nature is at war against God and ourselves, we are viewed once and for all as having the righteousness of Jesus attributed to our account.

To say we would need to be further cleansed would be to say that Jesus has some imperfection that would need to be cleansed in purgatory.

When we die, our flesh, our sin nature dies with it, and we become like Jesus when we see Him face to face.

But just getting back to the concept of this before the judgement state of being, a simple way of thinking about it is this.

Wherever God is, that is heaven (God is everywhere, and His presence is in the earth, but right now the earth is cursed and Satan is keeping darkness over the world so we don't experience Him to the fullest yet), wherever God is absent, that is hell.

So when we die right now, we will either go to where God is at, or where He is not at, so either paradise or torment.

This is true post-judgement as well. The judgement isn't to decide who goes where. That is already determined by one's acceptance or rejection of Jesus as savior in this life. In fact, if I read scripture right, believers and nonbelievers face different judgement ceremonies.

The great white throne judgement (for nonbelievers looking at the sins of individual) and the judgement seat of Christ (believers, looking at what was done/how faithful we were...this doesn't determine salvation, but should be looked at as an awards or celebration ceremony)

bluewhiteandred 1 point ago +1 / -0

I think I've read sincere deathbed confessions are rare, so this is a good point to pause and think about repenting and doing penance for self or others from this point forward (depending on how guilty a person is) - people might benefit from pretending they to depart from this life today and to "convert" now and just continue it until their life actually ends

Ezekiel 18:21 (ESV) “But if a wicked person turns away from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is just and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

Ezekiel 18:22 (ESV) None of the transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him; for the righteousness that he has done he shall live.

Ezekiel 18:23 (ESV) Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord GOD, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?

Ezekiel 18:24 (ESV) But when a righteous person turns away from his righteousness and does injustice and does the same abominations that the wicked person does, shall he live? None of the righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered; for the treachery of which he is guilty and the sin he has committed, for them he shall die.

Christ died only for those who would believe in Him.

MissileToad 7 points ago +11 / -4

No, Christ died for all. It doesn't mean Powell believed on Christ and received the free gift of eternal life, we just don't know. But Christ died for all.

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

SaddleTramp 2 points ago +2 / -0

That's cute, but no, Christs sacrifice was for His elect, no one comes to Him unless the Father has decreed it. Every sin is quenched by the blood of Christ, but only for those who have faith.

MissileToad 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes, I'm aware Calvinism is a thing. Doctrines have momentum, but that doesn't necessarily make them true. Scripture isn't "cute", it's true. Don't tell me what what the Bible "teaches," show me what the Bible says.

Things you won't find stated in scripture;

"Christs sacrifice was for His elect (ONLY)"

"no one comes to Him unless the Father has decreed it"

"Every sin is quenched by the blood of Christ, but only for those who have faith." (whatever that means)

Things you will find stated in scripture;

2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

Romans 5:16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. 17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

God did not send his Son, out of his love for the world, with the purpose for him to condemn the vast majority of that world, and only die for a tiny little fraction of that world, He sent his Son that all men might believe. That the world through him might be saved. I don't have to regurgitate some "doctrine" or "theological system" to know that or say it. Don't worry about what I think. God's Word directly states it.

John 1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

We really need to get away from this imposition of doctrines and theological systems and man's ideas onto verses that don't actually say what we want them to say. In any case, thanks for listening!

PRMan99 4 points ago +10 / -6

Exactly. God only forgives those that repent with a pure heart.

Did Powell repent in his later years?

Based on his hatred and trying to elect a known Satanist (Hillary), it would be hard to say yes, but God is more merciful than I am.

sfmaga 1 point ago +1 / -0

It's a theological question: limited vs unlimited atonement.

The original comment was "Christ died for all." The other replies do well in showing this in Scripture. Your comment is true as well, God saves those who recognize that sacrifice, repent, and live for God.

It should also be pointed out that there is no one sinful enough to be unable to be saved, and no one "good" enough to render salvation unnecessary.

SaddleTramp 0 points ago +1 / -1

Well, if he found faith in Christ in his last moments, he will be up there.

origcntzero 2 points ago +3 / -1

Christ died for all of mankind. Every soul. Yes, this includes the worst butchers of the world. It is a free gift for any who accept him. No strings attached. Simple faith in Jesus Christ and you are in like Flynn forever.

John 1:7, “The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.”

John 12:32, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.”

1st John 2:2, “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”

Acts 17:30, “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent.”

Romans 5:18, “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.”

Titus 2:11, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men.”

2nd Corinthians 5:14, “For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead.”

HappyPedeInCA 2 points ago +2 / -0

He said he died for us while we were still sinners.

SaddleTramp 1 point ago +1 / -0

Only if you believe such, if not, the sacrifice isnt afforded to you

MAGAMAN4EVA 1 point ago +1 / -0

What about the dudes next to him who were forgiven and didn't the actually killers of Jesus get forgiven also?

FiresideRant 1 point ago +1 / -0

Christ died for the sins of all, as other comments above yours have pointed out, but the two men who died next to Jesus are also an example of how the sacrifice He made works.

"Remember me when you come into your kingdom" was all the one thief said (that is recorded anyway), and the reply given to him by Christ makes it very clear that he, the thief, had placed his faith in the sacrifice Jesus was making. The other thief mocked Jesus, and essentially said "If you're the son of God, prove it, show us a miracle!"

Both were men that Christ died for. Both were born in sin and had sinful lives that needed redeeming. Both had the opportunity to look upon the very embodiment of the "bronze serpent on a stick" to be healed from the poison that is sin.

(warning: likely terrible analogy coming up)

A guy offers to pay for everyone to have a meal at a restaurant. If you don't go to the restaurant, you don't get to eat said free meal. It doesn't mean the meal is not yours or that you were left out, but you gotta show up to get it.

BoughtByBloomberg2 4 points ago +5 / -1

But did he repent? Did he even believe? Can you be a true believer and then commit the sin of false witness?

PRMan99 1 point ago +3 / -2

Can you be a true believer and then commit the sin of false witness?

Sure. People do it all the time.

Latin_Patriot_MAGA 3 points ago +3 / -0

And I don't think that demon would have regretted, or had time to regret.

I mean he was still stupid enough to enable them, but by the sound of it the swamp didn't even give him a chance. He was essentially thrown to the wolves by his own "allies"

AussieTrumpFan 1 point ago +1 / -0

I remember standing in a ready room watching his testimony in 2002 and, in conjunction with the completely-not-a-buildup forward deployment of ground troops in the region, forecasting a ground war in Iraq by end of the first quarter of 2003 (Logistics. If it wasn't happening by then, it wasn't going to happen, but the war loads in place said it was).

I distinctly remember an INTELO (fucking CNN watcher) tell me I was full of shit and there was no way we were going to war in Iraq - wasn't I listening to the four-star General? Why would a former CJCS and SecState lie to the UN? Well, what I was seeing was establishment of Causus Belli. On a lie. But NO ONE dared challenge it.

Of course, there were middle east deployments coming up for Food for Oil program enforcement. That conveniently became war deployments on 19 March.

Some people really can't see the forest for the trees and buy so hard into the narrative that they are almost violent to those who oppose it.

Thun -3 points ago +1 / -4

Thank you for your service and IMO, this war was justified. Please read the last paragraph on page 43 of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Report. It wasn't a lie, in 1999 Iraq sent a delegation to Niger looking to buy yellowcake uranium. Now they weren't successful but they did try! And after the embarrassing defeat 10 years earlier, why wouldn't we think he had a motive to get even?

Ralphusthegreatus 4 points ago +5 / -1

It sounds like you are trying to say that Iraq didn't have weapons of mass destruction.

Thun -1 points ago +2 / -3

Bush was labeled a liar because in his State of the Union address, he uttered the infamous 16 words, “The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.” Those words were not lies because Joe Wilson told the SSCI committee about his trip to Niger to investigate reports that Iraq bought uranium from them. He told the senators that a former Prime Minister, Ibrahim Mayaki told him that in June of 1999, Iraq sent a delegation to Niger to buy yellowcake uranium. Mayaki said the sale never happened because of UN sanctions but the truth remains, that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa. Now think about this, the CIA sends Joe Wilson to Niger to investigate, he's told by a VIP, a former Prime Minister that in 1999, Iraq wanted to buy yellowcake. Wilson comes home and writes an op-ed in the NYT's, "What I Didn't Find In Africa" and never mentions what Mayaki told him. Wilson's the liar, not Bush, that's all I'm saying. Please read the last paragraph on page 43 of the link I posted. And for the record, I can't stand Bush for what he did to President Trump.

Most local tax increase referendums were proposed by democrats. Most local politicians/bureaucrats are democrats even if they claim to be unaffiliated. We can change that.

The time has come for honest Americans to enter local politics...sheriff, city council, mayor, school board, hospital commissioner, precinct committee officer, etc.

It isn't that hard to enter politics. Look at AholeC. You don't need a college degree to be in politics!

Use your friends & family as your network to gain exposure. Contact your county clerk for info on how to apply to run.

Heaven may be a stretch. At best purgatory as he's got a lot of baggage the heaven customs agents want to sort through. Me thinks his antics might have bought him a one way trip down south for all the lives he lost based off of his "Intel"

plot twist: we're already in purgatory and what we do here determines what happens to us

HighVoltage 0 points ago +2 / -2

Fortunately, there is no such thing as purgatory because it is never mentioned anywhere in the scriptures. Purgatory is an invention of the Satanic Catholic Church.

I’m pretty sure he didn’t die of COVID, he died of cancer but wanted to further perpetuate another hoax on the American people. He was a truly evil person!

Funny thing about the discussion of life after death. We are left with only two sources to consult. Either we turn to human experience or we turn to the Word of God. If we turn to human experience, we find many guesses, many ideas, many theories—but no sure answers. That’s because, in the nature of the case, no human has a sure answer. The only people who have the answer are dead and they are not talking.

If you want the answer in one sentence here it is: What happens after you die depends on what happens before you die. Consider what the Bible says in Hebrews 9:27, “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” The only opportunity you will ever have to get right with God is the opportunity God affords you right now.

From the cross Jesus told the thief “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43, emphasis added). Paul said he had a desire “to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far” (Philippians 1:23, emphasis added). He also said, “We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body (that is, separated from the body by death) and at home with the Lord’ (2 Corinthians 5:8, emphasis added). These are the words of a man who believed that heaven would begin at the moment of his death. Was Paul looking forward to an unconscious slumber after his death? No! He was looking forward to the personal presence of Jesus Christ.

This would seem to contradict the teaching called “soul-sleep,” which implies that at death a believer “sleeps” in a kind of suspended animation until the day of the resurrection. The soul goes to be with the Lord in heaven, and the body is buried until the day of resurrection when Jesus returns to the earth.
