You've never experienced love until you have a daughter.

Be in every part of her life. Be active in all of it.

A friend of mine had a girl and changed everything he was in to. I asked if he still smoked weed and he said "not until the day she turns 18" I'm pretty sure that dude's girl will be a badass.

My own girl is 25.

Fathers don’t ignore your daughters.

And show them this, by not ignoring one's wife.

Funny you say this, I’m a pretty avid pot smoker and would stop as well for my daughter. Although I’m sure during her teen years I will def be wishing I had some of that lol

Congratulations!

To quote my wife: "You never thought a full grown man would be able to fit around such a little finger."

E-dantes 11 points ago +11 / -0

Frickin totally accurate.

CovfefeNegro 15 points ago +16 / -1

Boys are easier, oh yeah.

But congrats! For the first few years nothing much is different between the two, but here's a Thing; when cleaning a baby girl up after her diaper explodes you must remember to wipe 'down' from her front towards her rear, never wipe 'up' from the bottom towards her little self. Ask your Wife why.

As a single father I remember those days.. Miss every minute of it but I could go without that part again.

This. My middle daughters "god parents", a male gay couple because her mother is an idiot, caused so many infections i reported it to CPA. they didnt do shit.

GrayManNumber333 2 points ago +2 / -0

Hate those poops. Love babies, but hate cleaning girls up from those poops. They’re something I never even had an idea about before my oldest.

CovfefeNegro 2 points ago +3 / -1

It doesn't occur to most of us men, I didn't think of it either until the first one and my MIL stopped me on the very first diaper and said 'watch how I do this and don't ever screw it up, that's my Grand-daughter you're messing with'.

She was a mean old thing, but I had the pleasure of hitting a sandbar with the boat one day and launched her off the bow like a torpedo. That one brief moment was worth all her shiite.

My daughter (albeit my relationship with her mother is horrid) is the greatest thing I ever did. I didn't even want kids and she was an "accident" but she's my little girl and my favorite person in the world. Just livid beyond belief with what's going on in the world right now and that'll unless we do something quick, she'll never know what America was/could be.

Mine first daughter is due Nov 27(Canada)

Nov 27 Canadian, what does that convert to in our dates?

6
E-dantes 6 points ago +6 / -0

Nov 27, 1765? They still show alliegence to the queen?

4
NvJohansson 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yup, she's still their head of state. She's on their stamps, she's on their money, You still see a lot of her pictures hanging up all over Canada, except in Quebec.

Quebec health care?

2
Hammerhawk 2 points ago +2 / -0

Soldier...I work at the Recruit School too!!! I literally make MORE soldiers

2
NvJohansson 2 points ago +2 / -0

Ah, k. I was gonna say Legault got his bluff called in Qc and extended it a month because he was losing 22k health care workers, and not many more vaxxed for their November 15th deadline.

The Trudeau thing is bulshit too, only problem is on the federal level not enough people fought it. I lived a few years in Montreal and I noticed compared to the rest of Canada, who just go along with bs, they have a lot more rebellious blood in them. They're the only ones in Canada who marched and put up a fight.

2
CanadianFren 2 points ago +2 / -0

Lol they weren't suppose to know we use a different calendar system

2

Probably some weird metric calendar with 10 day weeks and 50 day months.....

Make sure to teach her how to use a gun properly.

4
E-dantes 4 points ago +4 / -0

This, and a knife. Insert and twist, so the wound doesn't close.

1
Norma_Bates 1 point ago +1 / -0

This!!! My dad put a bb gun in my hand as soon as I was old enough to understand not to point it at myself or others. My husband was terrified of guns when I first met him, took him to the range and now he's in love and finally has more guns than me!

8
icecreamheadache 8 points ago +8 / -0

YOU are the number one person to provide her genuine healthy male attention. If you mess this up, she will always be searching for something from men at large.

3
E-dantes 3 points ago +3 / -0

What you mean is be a positive example. Because what you become, she will seek, as she will think thats normal.

7
FUSnowflake 7 points ago +7 / -0

I have two co-workers with teenaged daughters who have worked elaborate work schedules with their wives so the daughter is NEVER alone at home.

Build a moat around the house and fill it with sharks with frickin' laser beams NOW.

..and send her to a convent until she's 40.

You are the single greatest influence on her: her subconscious will pick up on what you do and use that as a template, or an opposite-of template, for what to look for in a husband.

I had a baby girl 9 1/2 years ago , was the reason I woke up to whats going on the world. I still believe I'm in the "honeymoon stages" for she has not become a teenager, I remember my older sister geesh. My daughter still tells me she loves me infinity times infinity. I pray it will never end, although I know it will atleast for some time, cherish it all time is fleeting, cryin a bit typing this. Congrats fellow pede you are blessed.

You are the protector of your family, but boy or girl it is your job to also introduce risk to the family.

Raise her to take occasional chances, teach her that failing is ok as long as you learn from it and do better next time. Although, sometimes its more about iterations to get it right.

You WILL fall in love with your little girl, You WILL teach her to shoot, You WILL teach her to drive a manual transmission, You WILL introduce her to Jesus Christ her savior, an you WILL love your wife more intensely for it!

2
Nightbringer33 2 points ago +2 / -0

Oh, and congratulations! I have 2 and they are a blessing no matter how difficult at times!

Its freaking awesome, and totally sucks at the same time. You'll never know what she wants (like for Christmas) unless she spells it out for you. Literally.

3
Norma_Bates 3 points ago +3 / -0

This is for real!! Every year I have my four nieces , who range from ages 14-4, show me exactly what they want. If they tell me, 9 times out of 10 I have no idea what the hell they're even saying!

4
probablyacoincidence 4 points ago +4 / -0

Its amazing, my oldest is a girl and shes incredible. Shes so responsible and caring. Girls are amazing, they are so loving and fun. You will love it. I have both and i love my daughters and my son differently but just as much. Care for them, be strong and show them what a man should be. Be a shoulder to cry on when they need it, a hug when you come home from work. Ask them lots of questions and listen to the answers. Share their passions and their dreams, do their hobbies. Pick them up when they cry. You will love it. Even the bad days are better than you know. And make sure you enjoy it. I blinked and my oldest is going to be 13. Each stage is wonderful and challenging and better than the one before. But make sure you build the foundation with them, spending time to keep a relationship so when they go out into the world they always know you are there to come back to. You are in for a journey my friend, but its better than most journeys you will ever take in this life so treasure it.

Fathers are just as important as mothers, possibly even more so in the life of a daughter. Just remember, you don't have to be a perfect person to be the perfect dad. She needs to know she is loved by you and she needs to feel protected by you. She also needs to know you have confidence in her and that she is fully capable of doing anything she sets her mind to.

My dad allowed me to be a typical little girl who loved barbies and playing house. But when he was working outdoors or doing "man things" he always asked for my help. Because of this I have always been able to troubleshoot car problems without getting ripped off. I'm not afraid to tackle simple household maintenance and I've been able to teach my fatherless husband about about all of these things he should have been able to learn from his dad.

More importantly, because my dad taught me to be self-sufficient, it allowed me to choose a relationship with someone because I truly loved them. Not because they would or could take care of me. I manage well enough alone, but my relationship with my husband is ten times stronger because we both know I'm not in it because I rely solely on him, I'm in it for real love and our great partnership.

I became the woman I am today because of my father, a Vietnam vet with severe ptsd. We had major struggles in my childhood, but I tell you all that in hopes that you have the confidence to raise another strong woman for this world. Again, you don't have to be a perfect person to be a perfect father. Congrats!!

Any advice??

13
DairyBoy 13 points ago +13 / -0

Keep her away from screens, encourage reading (read with her), and keep her far, far away from government schools. More than anything, be an EXAMPLE of what a good MAN is.

3
Norma_Bates 3 points ago +3 / -0

The reading is fundamental!! I was an early reader and I'm certain it was because my dad read to me from a very early age.

When I learned to read on my own we would go into his computer room and he would make me read at least one children's book a night to him. I honestly don't even know if he actually listened to me reading, but at the time I thought he did.

I really enjoyed the one on one time with him and getting to read to him the books that interested me.

I'm in my 30's now and hear him brag to my nephews that one summer I read over 100 books. It was almost 30 years ago that I did that, but I remember it fondly.

MHCIII 6 points ago +6 / -0

Be careful who she is watching listening to, especially now a days. I am raising my daughter to embrace and be proud of everything that has to do with being a girl/women. Do not let society confuse or downplay the feminine attributes of real women, not boys pretending to be women etc.

3
probablyacoincidence 3 points ago +3 / -0

And time, make time to spend and share their lives. You can make more money, you can make more things. You can go back and beat Madden one more time, you cant go back and spend more time with her.

Maybe you should wait for the child to tell you what gender it is before you start oppressing it? Yeah?

Mom will need all the help she can get. You know that stupid slow feeling you get when you are digesting a full meal? -- your wife has to live through months of internal processes that are much more constant and unrelenting. Treat her like a queen. give her all the help you can. Make her life as pleasant and stress free as you can.

Then read your Kipling to learn why the female of the species is more dangerous than the male.
