Libertarianism is trash at this point. Post-Marley reggae.

28
War_Hamster 28 points ago +28 / -0

As one who has been a delegate at the Libertarian National Convention and who has met several of their wannabe presidential candidates, allow me to partially agree.

There's still a lot of very based Libertarians in the country, but the Party is almost as corrupt as the R's and D's. Now Jo Jorgensen thinks it's a good idea to send out emails with woke virtue signaling inclusiveness topics......so I'm more than done.

29
Prudentwait 29 points ago +31 / -2

Libertarianism is over as a movement. Corporations have proven themselves just as harmful and intrusive as the government. The fact that a few individuals with no loyalty to the nation are rapidly becoming masters over millions of people is a travesty and a hands-off approach isn't going to stop that. Conservatives need to taker the government and use it to our benefit.

23
War_Hamster 23 points ago +23 / -0

As long as you plan to shrink it back to its intended size afterwards, go for it.

Sadly, history is barren of stories of governments that willingly gave up power once they have it.

8
Prudentwait 8 points ago +10 / -2

At this point I'd prefer a monarchy under a strong constitution to the current system. King George III looks like a saint compared to the last 20 or so presidents.

15
War_Hamster 15 points ago +15 / -0

Interesting comparison, considering it is the same global banking cartel that ran both regimes.

9
Prudentwait 9 points ago +10 / -1

The Rothschilds and other banking cartels had a fraction of the power they have today. Back then they were ruling over a cohesive, deeply Christian nation with strong local identities. People knew how to hunt and make their own things. Small businesses had more power.

It’s the same as the R party. The top is wildly out of touch with the base. IMO libertarianism (see Cato’s open borders policies) is even more out of touch with what their base wants than the GOP.

OscarTheGrouch 10 points ago +10 / -0

Ron Paul ran as a Libertarian in 1988, and as a Republican in 2008 (after having proven to himself that 3rd party runs, at best, split the vote.)

But if you asked him what he is, he'd immediately say he is a Constitutionalist.

The problem isn't that the system we have is wrong -- it's that it's unenforced. And for that we have only to blame ourselves, for not holding these fuckers accountable to the Rule of Law. That is changing, finally.

6
OscarTheGrouch 6 points ago +6 / -0

One of his legislative aides said he would literally start reading a bill, and when he got to something in it that wasn't authorized by Article I, Section 8, he'd STOP. And vote No.

2
War_Hamster 2 points ago +2 / -0

I hope you're right about it changing. It is, from what I see, but I always wonder if it's changing fast enough.

Ron Paul is perhaps the one politician of our age who actually understands what this country is supposed to be. The fact that he inspired so many gives me reason for hope, but we've got a lot more work ahead of us.

1
Big_Sam_Handwich 1 point ago +1 / -0

Ron Paul is the ideal "politician" in my mind. Imagine if they were all like him?! The govt would be 10% its current size and scope...sound money...booming economy...maximum liberty and freedom.

0
FreddyThePatriot 0 points ago +2 / -2

That is changing, finally.

Lol

LOL

LOL!!!!!!!!!!

Let me know when Hillary Clinton is arrested

2
OscarTheGrouch 2 points ago +2 / -0

Laugh it up, dumbass. It is changing because people are finally achieving a critical mass of cognitive dissonance, waking up and getting pissed off. It's not going to be Hillary getting arrested that changes things -- that will be a by-product. It will be when enough people have seen that the media and "justice" system are rigged (Kyle wakeup), when enough people say WTF when the currency collapses (Evergrande bond contagion, see Turkey as first indication; Dec 3 spending deadline here), and enough people have horribly injured or dead children from the killshot (they'll correctly want Fauci's head on a pike, not Trump's.)

6
notCIA 6 points ago +6 / -0

My only problem is that the classic libertarian will literally argue that the left has the right to destroy the country and you are only allowed to fight back if it is in favor of the very policies they used to gain authoritarian power in the first place.

7
War_Hamster 7 points ago +7 / -0

I'd love to live in a world where the AnCap system could be implemented.

The only problem is that there are crappy people in this world, and it requires just a bit of Federal Gov't to protect ourselves from those crappy people.

All Libertarians and similarly aligned lovers of liberty should be appalled at the growth of the State that is accelerating right now, and they damn well better fight back.

5
notCIA 5 points ago +5 / -0

And I would always agree. The government should be fighting back against theis commie takeover, instead it is the commie takeover. We have to make sure that is much harder next time, and it would help to recognize that communist ideology itself is dangerous, not just its implementation.

3
War_Hamster 3 points ago +3 / -0

I think the way to protect against this in the future, assuming we can save what's left and restore the republic, is to ensure that every single American child learns the values that make us unique. Teaching this is more important than reading and writing and racist math.

2

You don't need an entire government apparatus for some basic security and secure borders, you just need some intelligence and cooperation between like-minded people:

"Sexualizing minors, pornography, and general societal and moral degeneracy isn't a real problem, the flu on the other hand..."

That's a hot take /s

7
lordvon 7 points ago +9 / -2

With the internet probably most young men have been exposed to porn and are regular or occasional users. Obviously it’s better to never have seen porn but is it manageable? I am for banning pornography btw to prevent accidental exposure that can have a huge effect on a man’s life.

8
Gans 8 points ago +9 / -1

I think there's a corellation between porn and the decline in masculinity and the weakening of society by proxy as well as the increase in unhealthy sexual behaviors like sodomy, homosexuality, gender swapping, cuckolding, etc all of which correlate with mental illness. It's not the sole cause but its definitely one big factor. Then there's declining birth and marriage rates of which porn is also a factor among others. It has had devastating effects on society in my opinion. The flu on the other hand, not so much.

Libertarians hate government but turn the other way when the corporations become the government, because private enterprise.

Corporations have ruined capitalism, we don’t have a libertarian free market anymore because business interests and political interests have become intertwined

Spez: LOLberts downvoting me rn seethe harder, I walked away from Lolbertism and so should you

5
AlphaTheBetaFish 5 points ago +5 / -0

I think it’s deeper than that. I’d say it would be harder for corporations to exist if we didn’t have a central bank and we had a gold standard. Imagine the loans some of these businesses can take out vs you or me....

4
shadows_of_the_mind 4 points ago +4 / -0

And also corporations can form because the government grants them operating licenses. So it’s basically socialism-lite, the government gets to pick and choose who can form a corporation

4
AlphaTheBetaFish 4 points ago +4 / -0

Let’s not forget to mention the bail outs.... while the normal people get nothing.... bail us out and we’ll do all our manufacturing in Mexico lol

3
Prudentwait 3 points ago +3 / -0

The people are taxed by the government

The government gives tax money to "private corporations" which are also multinational monopolies

The people can't afford to own anything so they have to rent from the "private corporations"

The people are completely beholden to these institutions

And the government is too

2
shadows_of_the_mind 2 points ago +2 / -0

The rental/sharing/communal economy has been a disaster for private ownership. Why buy a car when you can Uber? Why own a bike or scooter when you can rent a city one for $5 a ride. Why own property when you can rent a 200sqft shoebox in Manhattan for $4500+/mo? Why buy your own food (let alone grow it) when it can be delivered to your doorstep for a monthly fee?

Technology, in all its wonders, has made us disgustingly complacent.

1
rentfREEEE_since2016 1 point ago +1 / -0

Money is power. Power corrupts. Corruption is like cancer, you can only cut it out, it can’t be reformed.

Where money flows, so does corruption.

Libertarians seem to think you can liberalize the market And manifest Some sort of economic utopia. But you can’t, because wealth will always manifest corruption.

Liberty like a sine wave, it only intersects the reference line for fleeting moments in time

1
AlphaTheBetaFish 1 point ago +1 / -0

And on the other hand where you give power to a select few corruption also forms. Government breads corruption. I’ve never heard a libertarian use the word utopia because libertarianism is based off the idea that limited government is better (because it is). Free markets are the best regulation ruins everything and does very little to protect you.

1
rentfREEEE_since2016 1 point ago +1 / -0

They don’t have to use the word utopia. The argument is always “in a free market”

The markets have NEVER been free and they never will be.

Wouldn't forcing people to obtain and maintain appropriate body weight do much more than forced vaccinations?

I mean, if we're going to go around forcing people to do things against their will. Why settle for some lessor evil like covid. Lets do obesity and other causes of heart disease and cancer.

4
GrotthussMechanism 4 points ago +4 / -0

Here’s the kicker on that note:

The ABSOLUTE BEST way to protect yourself from severe illness, hospitalization, and death due to SARS-CoV-2 is to maintain a healthy weight, primarily because getting younger is not an option.

Protect yourself from a virus that you, in all likelihood, will hardly suffer from at all. And also dramatically lower your risk of death due to heart disease, diabetes, gut cancer, etc., etc., etc.

But no, let’s close down the gyms.

The two things that need to happen before we will start to see any improvement is:

1: Stopping federal taxes to some degree

2: Stop supporting the consumer propaganda machine

The reason why lefty seem so resilient and don’t disappear after losing so much is the same read we are al not doing better. The steal and subsidize all of their work and cost of living through being in overpaid elected offices and money laundering through corporate and NGOs passing off their cost on to us when we shop, after taxing us when we work. America redistributes more wealth from the large but shrinking middle class (because they are making the middle class poor) to rich and poor than any other.

The issue is that the labels are abused

The libertarians as a party are totally not the same thing as the dictionary definition of libertarians as a philosophy

As for what I mean: The "party"/"influencers" involved are always hyping on "increasing freedom" in particularly insane ways - while at the same time merely going down the path of ignoring outrageous infringements that it would be easy to rebel against. AKA: Much like the D-leaders, their only true rule is Power , and thus they giggle at the claims of hypocrisy.

Yes, Americanism (/grassroots Republicanism) is very much like a flavor of true libertarianism. "Government is a necessary evil, but it should be the size of a gnat." sorts of thinking. But. That's usually not what the label 'libertarian' means when speaking of groups of people anymore.

4
conservativeyuppie 4 points ago +4 / -0

Libertarians want freedom to do evil. There's no middle ground when it comes to good vs evil. You're either for the freedom to do evil or the freedom to do good, and taking one position means you have to take an active stance against the other. Trying to tolerate both only means evil will encroach on everyone else (case in point: tolerance for gay "marriage" has now led us down the path of drag queen story time for kids and normalization of pedophilia). Conservatism is pussified now, the only solution is traditionalism and going back to the social norms that actually worked. That's only tyranny to people who want to do evil.

This is not the libertarian view, it is the view of Lolbertarians. I am a libertarian who knows the government can not force medical procedures.

2
ManateeRanMild 2 points ago +2 / -0

If you can detect racism by changing out the group being discussed with another group, ie. "[White] people should apologize" --> "[Black] people should apologize"

Then you can apply this to inhuman medical tyranny as well. Replace one medical procedure with another. Change "Vaccination" to "Sterilization" and re-read that.

And yes, that IS where they want to go with this. "Just think of the public health benefits! In a single generation we could wipe out all inherited genetic diseases! Think of the lives saved, the stress on our medical system that could be alleviated by sterilizing the genetically unfit!"

I give it about 2 years.

The religious exemption is playing a scam game where they control the rules. Simply do not play their game. it's illegal for any employer to even ask you anything about your religion, so a religious exemption is itself illegal. Secondly it's illegal for any employer to ask you anything about your medical status (beyond can you physically perform the job), so it's illegal for them to even ask you about your vax status.

Asking you anything about your religion violates the Equal Opportunity Act, and asking about your medical status violates the Americans with Disabilities Act. Don't play their game. They are breaking multiple laws with this scam and they know it. Just remind them that the law is on OUR side, not theirs.

0
FreddyThePatriot 0 points ago +1 / -1

He is pretending this vaccine wasn't rushed out a mere year after the virus was released in the middle of a pandemic and mere days after Trump's "defeat," pretending we have enough data to conclude the vaccine actually works, pretending anyone who voices dissent isn't being absolutely destroyed, pretending any reports to the contrary aren't being buried, pretending nationwide protests against this aren't happening daily, and pretending governments aren't using this as a tool to exert as much control as possible over their citizenry (for a reason we still don't know of but is looking more and more Naziish as time passes).

He is also pretending children (and adults) who grow up around constant stimulation have an incredible lack of impulse control, pretending they don't often have other health problems due to this lack of impulse control, predenting they don't often do other antisocial things in public or even commit crimes just for the clout that constant exposure to these online environments gives them, pretending their parents don't let it all happen because they themselves grew up around it and are so demoralized from life in general that they'll willingly give parenting primarily to an electric box, and pretending we know exactly what happens when these electro-crack-addled babes join the workforce and begin to have a hand in running the country.

Anarchists are dumb too. They are analogous to commies. Both ideologies are fundamentally flawed because they assume the natural state of mankind is good and unselfish. One can no more expect to live in an authoritarian utopia than in a lawless, mob-rule utopia. People do not want to work only for someone to steal the fruits of their labor, and evil people ALWAYS want what they didn't earn.

lolbertarians are just conservatives that try too hard to fit in with the edgy leftist/anarchist crowd.

Conservatives are progressives driving the speed limit. A Republican today is like a democrat 20 years ago. 20 years from now Republicans will be arguing "I get trans having their own bathroom is an American right, but do we really have to give all of our kids puberty blockers?"

No. This is the moment we stop allowing the lines to shift. The left is literally on the verge of legalizing pedophilia in states like California. We need to fucking start shooting the left if they keep pushing left because I'm not going to live in a society that normalizes pedophilia.

I get what you are saying but Republicans 20 years ago were vehemently against gay marriage. I don't know if there are any Republican congressman who even oppose gay marriage anymore. Republican politicians just go whichever the wind blows.

I think that's really the only topic Republicans have shifted on in the last 20 years towards the center. Republicans nowadays aren't any less pro-life than they've ever been, for example. In fact we've started to make some gains in the abortion debate by placing conservative federal judges who allow states to pretty much ban abortion past 10 weeks.

In other ways Republicans have moved more to the traditional right thanks to Trump's populism. For example conservatives were always opposed to international interventionism, but the neo-cons made that a conservative policy under Bush when that's a progressive foreign policy. Woodrow Wilson and FDR promoted the idea America could "guide" the world actively whereas conservatives believe the US should be more reserved outside of economic trade. I've also for the first time in decades seen conservatives come out vehemently against the police state and start proposing privatization of the education system.

Republicans bitch about the budget but when they are in power spend just as much if not more than their democrat predecessors. Lots of Republican politicians are pretty gay on gun rights. I love Trump and all but he signed a bullshit bump stock ban, and Dan Crenshaw supports red flag laws. And all Republican politicians are basically controlled opposition. They allowed the election of 2020 to go ahead. Lindsay Graham and Mitch McConnell don't give a fuck about you.

Yes but the Republicans 20-30 years ago weren't good on gun control, either. Remember the most comprehensive gun control being shot down NOW was passed in the 80s-90s. Opposition to gun control is now at historic levels - partially because the left inadvertently proved why self defense is so important.

Republicans at the STATE LEVEL and in the courts are far more effective conservatives when it comes to abortion and gun control. It takes time to fix the federal GOP because they're so far removed from the average person. They literally spend over half the year in the liberal DC political arena.

And what have libertarians done? They were the ones who promoted “muh freedom to chop muh dick off and take estrogen pills”.

The Mises caucus of the Libertarian party is doing good work. They are focusing on electing liberty minded people to local office to stop this left wing bullshit. If we get enough local politicians to just ignore the unconstitutional edicts from Washington we may be able to stop this shit. Trying to fix Washington from inside is just not going to work.
