I worked with this company for just over a year operating the largest machinery in the world. I was never late, never called sick, ensured a safe clean environment on the haul roads and in the trucks. I'm truly heartbroken theyve decided to force us to be vaxxed. Theyve lost 18% of their 3700 person workforce over this. Gotta wonder whats in it for them, theyve done this voluntarily, the gov isnt even forcing them.

Anyways, wish me luck peopl, this is the most insane thing I've ever done in my life, and I've fought very hard to be here, fighting addictions, court cases, and a ton of horrible choices in my teens. I'm 29 now and im losing what could easily be a golden path to retirement. Pray for me.

I have to sell my summer home in Quebec's eastern townships because l can no longer go. Fuck Turdeau. 🖕

46
cosmos411 46 points ago +46 / -0

That's terrible. I love the Townships. I used to go to the Knowlton Pub a lot back in the day. There used to be a picture of Stallone partying with the locals at a New Years party. Probably long gone now. They also had a great Polo outlet in town. Skied Owl's Head, Bromont and Orford for many years.

p.s. It's a small world Pede. We're everywhere :)

33
NvJohansson 33 points ago +33 / -0

I had a full view of one of the ski mountains that you obviously know of since it's one of the only four big ones in the area. Quiet property surrounded by hedges. I rented it out to skiers in the winter, and used in the summer because it was nicely dead in that area with the hill closed. Sucks to let it go, but it looks like I won't be able to get back into Canada for years from the looks of it. And again, fuck Turdeau.

And yes, Stallone used to visit the area in the summer because it's really quiet. Most stars went up to the Laurentians because there's a couple of "jetset" areas, but it seems that Sly like to keep a low profile. Good on him.

35
cosmos411 35 points ago +35 / -0

This whole border thing is insane. I have the same situation, but the opposite direction. I can't get to FL because I'm vaccine-free. Meanwhile both countries are letting immigrants in like it's a Black Friday sale.

Many many years ago a friend from college had a summer place in Knowlton. One day he was laying out in the sun when someone came up and blocked it out. He heard a woman's voice ask "hey, Kiefer wanted me to ask if you want to come play football him and his buddies?". It was Julia Roberts and the Sutherlands were his neighbors. Poor guy almost bit his tongue trying to answer her. He had a good look at those long legs from where he was.

Your cottage sounds amazing. Maybe you could rent it out in the summer as well as winter and get a management company to look after the place. Hopefully you could break even and be able to keep the place? I'm sure you've thought about all of this though. Best of luck Pede.

25
NvJohansson 25 points ago +25 / -0

Nice. I missed out on Stalone a few times and not by much. Sucks.

The money thing isn't a problem. I got offers for 4x the price l paid, its more the principal of the thing. If I feel like a pariah somewhere, I don't want to spend a penny there ever again.

11
NvJohansson 11 points ago +12 / -1

No, they didn't hate me. I had a great time with them. You sound like somebody from the rest of Canada who got his information from Rex Murphy. The area I was was more Anglo, but the francophones were as cool if not more.

3
BurnerPhone609 3 points ago +7 / -4

Sound like a Canadian? No, American here who has visited Canada often.

Do you speak French? Get a Quebecer drunk and have them tell you how they really feel sometime. I have.

8
NvJohansson 8 points ago +8 / -0

Yes, l do speak french fluently. Have spoken to many and they were a lot friendlier to me than the anglos in the area who we're really reserved and kept to themselves. Pretty snobby actually, which to be honest, I'm used to it since I'm from the most stuck-up neighborhood in the Boston area.

But when you hear most Canadian speak, they dump on quebecers and bring up the referendum 24/7, meanwhile the quebecers never bring up the rest of Canada because it basically don't care about them. They do like to drink and party though, which is really fun around the campfireor yard gathering in the summer. Drinking tea and playing lawnbowling just isn't my thing.

No, the frogs hated you. They hate everyone not born in Quebec. I know plenty of frogs that openly tell you that if you're not born in quebec, with a french name, you're not welcome.

2
NvJohansson 2 points ago +2 / -0

I lived in Montreal four years, my sister still lives there, but yeah you spent a couple of weekends on Crescent, Bishop and Drummond got drunk at sir Winston's Pub and because of that you know more then me, cool. Maybe its just you they hated? After a couple of exchanges with you, I wouldn't blame them and I would see why.

0
mugatucrazypills 0 points ago +1 / -1

They hate even people born in Quebec with a french name. They hate everything. especially themselves. They're more servile to American's because $ and there are genes from less files on roi (the french whores) that make them naturally servile to a few bucks for poutine, but the truth is they hate everything because it's less backwards than them.

I've always wanted to visit Quebec because I have ancestry there (French). Sounds like I might be able to do that for a long time, if ever.

3
NvJohansson 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yup, sad AF. No matter their political affiliation, French quebecers are not offended by much, and that alone is cool.

I was in a market once, some guy is talking to a guy four daughters, and he says wow I got three daughters that age. The guy answers, my doctor said you're more likely to get girls if you make them really deep. They both started laughing, the wives were laughing and two other customers not far away were laughing. I swear if that was said in Boston or anywhere else everybody would be offended and embarrassed. 🔲

I thought it was based idgaf

Make them prove the vaccine is effective in the arguments they are making. With facts.

Safe: no long term safety studies- so cannot be called safe.

Effective: by official rules must be at least 50% effective at STOPPING infection to be ruled safe against THE CURRENT BIG STRAIN. So not effective.

If it reduces symptoms- have them show you a study that proves that. Hint: none have ever shown that, in fact the opposite is what is shown.

How? Do you live in a rural area? My living expenses alone, not inclusive of taxes, exceed 50k. I looked at moving right, but now that real estate is off the charts, I'm looking at monthly payments in the 2.5k or higher ballpark even in the so-called "low cost of living" areas.

16
hzuiel 16 points ago +16 / -0

If 2.5k is the low end you are not in a low cost of living area. Where I live, even after inflation of housing in recent years you can still find 4 bed houses with a full basement for 200k if it needs a bit of updating and minor repairs. If you have the 20% down you should have under 1k payment.

Then all over expenses including food for a moderate size family from cheap grocery(walmart, aldi, kroger with sales and coupons) Should be 1k or less. Health insurance is the wildcard, some places have excellent family policies that dont cost a lot, my work is like 600 extra per month for spouse plus children. Then you have to account for tax incentives, 2k per child plus almost same amount from earned income tax credit, qbout 11k in incentives for 3 children if you make 50k. With 50k, about 35 takehome after tax, plus the tax credits, you get 46k annual budget. Even with 500 per month insurance, thats 30k, so you are left with 16k for saving, investing, transportation costs, etc. If you dont require a ford superduty king ranch edition to commute 5 miles to work, that is more than reasonable. In actuality i might be underestimating the government incentives, i think with 3 children on only 50k income your wife and kids actually qualify for medicaid coverage. So thats another several thousand dollars a year back in your pocket if so.

Also before anyone says something about government handouts, it isnt a handout when you are a hard working middle class worker and they tax the crap out of you. In that case the system is just designed to return your stolen property if you meet the criteria and know how to use the system. The government is the reason wages are low and expenses are high, and then they rob you on top of it. Might as well take back what you can so the bureaucrats don't use your taxes on something else dumber.

If you have kids, find a state with a tax voucher system, so you dont have to pay out of pocket for homeschool or charter schools, or you get lower costs on semi-private and private schools. Also when they are approaching college age the vouchers support being able to selectively send them to various trade schools or college prep schools to learn things you wouldnt have opportunity for in homeschool or other education establishments. In states with no voucher you have to pay 100% to send your kid any place but the school system you are closest to.

4
fclampazzo 4 points ago +4 / -0

I want to point out that one issue is that when the rent is lower, the number of available jobs is lower. So, typically, when I find out some place has a lower rent, I really have to price in the event-risk of being unemployed and in an area where I can't find another comparable job. That could end up being more expensive than the rent in a more job-filled area.

But yes, your analysis makes sense if you get a lot back out of the government.

2
mattrona 2 points ago +2 / -0

Do you have any suggestions of nice states/towns with reasonably priced homes?

I've been looking for somewhere to move but I've been seeing very high housing prices even in areas I thought were low cost-of-living.

3

6
fclampazzo 6 points ago +8 / -2

Rent in this area is around 4k/month for a family of 4. Low cost areas that really only dips to around 2500, for a 3 hour daily commute during normal times.

Let's say I eat too much and go down to no or cheap phones and live in the cheap house--

$2500 Housing $300 Food (A month -- and this is low end) $200 Energy (Nat gas or electric, average) $100 Internet $100 Car insurance (Estimated) $50 Phones (Cut back) $100/week transit

You're at 3350. That's already ~40k a year. How are you getting this any lower without subsidies? You can cut Food to 0 and eat out of garbage cans, and you still aren't making a real dent. Cut internet to a garbage plan, ok, maybe cut $50 there, go cheap on the insurance coverage.

If you think my numbers are crazy, try some of these other calculators. They don't vary too much, but I chose Chicago since it's among the cheaper of the larger metro areas (in some ways.)

https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/in/Chicago.

Note, I didn't add things like health insurance or clothes or other incidentals. Bare minimum without skimping really is going to start at 30k, without government assistance.

deleted 1 point ago +1 / -0
1
fclampazzo 1 point ago +1 / -0

Sorry, $100/month for transit.

Where in NYC are you getting 3.5k for 3 beds? When I lived there 15 years ago, it was 2k for a street-level pre-war studio in Manhattan with a 30-45min commute still. Outer borough? Even Washington Heights and such 15 years ago was costing $1400/month for a roach-infested pre-war studio.

“Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing? [26] Consider the birds of the sky: They don't sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you worth more than they? [27] Can any of you add one moment to his life span by worrying? [28] And why do you worry about clothes? Observe how the wildflowers of the field grow: They don't labor or spin thread. [29] Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these. [30] If that's how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won't he do much more for you-you of little faith? [31] So don't worry, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?' [32] For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. [33] But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. [34] Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 6:25-34 CSB

That's insane to say the least. You're still young. God speed. 🙏

14
JasonX31 14 points ago +15 / -1

Sorry this happened but you’re so young. A million blessings await you. Stay positive.

With respect --

No, this guy is in trouble. We can wish him well but dark times are ahead for young people. The very young are in serious trouble and society needs to wake the fuck up.

Its easy for me to say hold your ground as I am just an unvaxxed stay at home mom. It's a noble cause and I wish you the best. Surely to work there you have a set of skills that can get you a job elsewhere. Good luck.

TrumpWonByALandslide 10 points ago +10 / -0

Did you try a religious exemption? They must allow that by law, and if they deny it, you potentially have a lawsuit if you play your cards right.

20
trump20202024 [S] 20 points ago +20 / -0

Canadian courts have alreadt ruled against this. :(

Its a godless country i tell ya.

10
Plazma10 10 points ago +10 / -0

In Toronto here, most of the people i know are in your shoes. I don't trust their numbers. Us not submitting to the mandates is why they had to lock us down again. No one is complying and things are falling apart because of it

4
TrumpWonByALandslide 4 points ago +4 / -0

I always assume everyone here is from the U.S. It amazes me how much recognition PDW has around the world.

Best of luck. You'll find a way to live a decent life vax-free.

Canada is basically the forgotten state. Americans tend to forget about Canada a lot easier than Canadians could ever forget about America, and most Canadians know far more about what's happening in the US than they do of their own country or government.

The entire Canadian identity is "At least we're not those stupid/rude/arrogant Americans with their fake and corrupt two party system!"

As an American living in Canada I like to inform them that American's frequently forget Canada exists. And they aren't exactly living the high life with five flavors of communism up here.

Best wishes man but it should be a short leave. That truck hauls $400,000 of revenue each trip if there is a competent shovel operator. They’re not going to let it not run… and there’s no labour available to fill your position. You may need to relocate but apply at other mines, there’s likely a company that would take you on.

I am applying for a different job, second interview is coming this week. However, they negotiated with their union about the vaccine. The job I am applying for is "grandfathered", but they are now trying to renegotiate the vax agreement. I will still plow forward, but am not sure what is going to happen. Not getting the shot. Hoping the SOCTUS tosses the mandate, but not counting on them, anymore.

Sorry, eh.

Okay, Canada jokes aside, sorry you’re going through a rough patch friend. In my experience the biggest lessons and gifts in life seem to be preceded by [at the time] seemingly impossible or unfair experiences. Keep your chin up, you’ll get through this.

I would be interested to know how many people have the training/skills to operate that thing.

I'm sure they cant call the temp agency and get a replacement.

My nephew has a 6 figure job and refuses the jab. They havent fired him because what he does is so specialized and requires years of training that they cant afford to lose him.

4
chahn1138 4 points ago +4 / -0

Being able to handle something like that means that you have real skills.

The Demand for your skills is only going to GROW.

Keep the Faith and Pray for a fast resolution. Good luck!

4

I believe Mike Rowe works with a foundation, albeit in the US, that specifically helps people find job openings like this one.

4
Epicsoundwaves 4 points ago +4 / -0

Looks like you work in cramped quarters with hundreds of people! Good thing thing they’re imposing a mandate on you, to protect all those people around you every day!

But in all seriousness, so sorry pede. Praying you’ll have peace and find something better! And hopefully get compensated one of these days for unlawful termination upon refusal of a medical procedure.

4
RealWomenLoveTrump 4 points ago +4 / -0

You can't do that job if you're dead from the shot. And you can't do it for long if you get side effects that radically change your now much shortened life. They are making you pay a price, so pay it and move on. My son is getting thrown out of the Marine Corps over this shot, many people are losing a lot. The tide will turn.

Also remember, knowing how to safely drive one of those monsters is a unique skill set, others will want it.

9x10again 3 points ago +3 / -0

I think down the road there will be some major lawsuits to make people whole from these firings/discharges. The Supreme Court just needs to do the right thing

4

Looks like that truck could do some serious damage to the control shack...and main office...and all those fancy-ass management cars out in the parking lot...

4
Latin_Patriot_MAGA 4 points ago +4 / -0

That the letter they give you tell you specifically that they fire you for not pricking you, and you demand them.

Never quit make them fire you. If they demand you sign something demand they cover the cost of you paying a lawyer to review it aka don’t sign anything.

3
Will-Not-Comply 3 points ago +3 / -0

I wonder what it would take to turn that into a killdozer?

3

Everything always works out for those who want it to.

If you desire to be successful, you will. If you desire to be comfortable, you will. If you give up and dwell in self pity, that is when the weight of the world comes down on individuals.
