Nothing cops do is about safety it's all about complying with the law

You spelled revenue generation wrong.

QLARP 27 points ago +31 / -4

I mean we've all seen the cops save a baby from a car fire.

But the war on drugs totally fucked up their mentality.

As soon as they could double their budget with civil asset forfeiture.

The party for the 4th amendment was over.

"What do you got in that envelope?"

"Some cash meeting a guy from Craigslist to buy his old truck"

"Oh I see. Well I smell weed now"

25
Ryan192 25 points ago +27 / -2

I've never seen a cop do anything good, much less save a baby from a car fire. You must be watching a lot of TV.

2
QLARP 2 points ago +8 / -6

Oh yeah they save people all the time.

The media trys to make them look bad sometimes.

The media's biggest bias is sensationalism and making as much money for share holders.

If it bleeds it leads.

But drug war cops are shitty you are right there.

Ryan192 5 points ago +10 / -5

I think you're talking about the exception, not the rule. It's dangerous to assume that the cop is any better than the jogger who raped your wife and murdered your white child. He's a stranger, and he's capable of anything, and he has the support of a powerful mafia behind him, along with guns and armor on point.

1
Yawnz13 1 point ago +1 / -0

By that logic you're justifying pretty much every act of police malfeasance, swatting, etc.

-3
QLARP -3 points ago +6 / -9

better than the jogger who raped your wife and murdered your white child

30% of this website are just psychopaths. You have a really weird brain and your imagination is very dark.

i think you're talking about the exception

How many people get pulled over a day?

How many times do they drive off normally?

3
Ryan192 3 points ago +5 / -2

I don't think your imagination is not nearly dark enough. No where even close.

2
DisbandTheCIA 2 points ago +2 / -0

Hey leave us psychopaths out of it. Police are as human as anyone else except they took a job where saving babies is sort of expected.

2
Yaemz123 2 points ago +2 / -0

I still remember my first ticket. I was driving home late and a vehicle pulled right up behind me with their brights on. They swerved and braked and revved up behind me repeatedly, like some crazy person. I slowed down from 65 (speed limit) to about 30. They kept it up, rather than pass me. I could barely see the road ahead to drive. Eventually I had enough and sped up to get away from them. Once I hit 80mph, off went the lights. I figured they turned off. Then a few seconds later, regular lights are on behind me police lights and siren. Big ticket for reckless driving, since I passed the speeding level at 15mph over. That's who the cops mostly are.

1
Yawnz13 1 point ago +1 / -0

You're also only a single person with an incredibly limited perception and basically zero experience relative to the totality of the population.

5
Anon89 5 points ago +5 / -0

He did for sure. A tax is a payment for being successful a fine is a payment for breaking the law. Both are just ways to make money.

37
WakingKnowledge 37 points ago +38 / -1

It is a legal reason for them to pull you over and bust you for something else. Legally, they have to have a reason to pull you over. If not the whole stop becomes illegal and cannot be used against you.

9
Anon89 9 points ago +10 / -1

I mean I’m theory.

11
WakingKnowledge 11 points ago +14 / -3

If the initial reason for the stop is invalid it works. I was pulled over once for a tail light being out of its housing. However, I memorized all traffic laws. I said, officer that particular violation you are talking about says that the light has to be working and can be seen from 50 ft. My light was out of its housing but it worked and you could easily see it from 50 feet. There was no such violation for the light being out of its housing. So, I said to the officer that since this stop is now illegal I was leaving. Can't have fruit of the poison tree. So, I left. The end.

9

Never talk to police

2
WakingKnowledge 2 points ago +4 / -2

unless you have something intelligent to say and understand legalease. I do.

4
Yaemz123 4 points ago +4 / -0

I've seen a cop pull someone over then break their taillight with a nightstick. This was in the 90s before everyone had cellphones. Back then, in some areas, you either accepted the ticket, or they would beat you for "assaulting an officer"

2
peterstrzoked 2 points ago +2 / -0

Don’t believe me? Here’s a law professor and a detective - Never talk to police

You can beat the case but not the ride.

0
WakingKnowledge 0 points ago +2 / -2

the law says they can't use what judges call fruit of the poisonous tree against you. Everything they find after an illegal stop cannot be used against you in court.

-4
QLARP -4 points ago +1 / -5

Yeah you beat the case still went to jail and missed work.

God thank you for you both being here, I love downvoting both of you buttfucking faggots. It’s the little thing things life.

2
QuickHands 2 points ago +3 / -1

People are fucking pussies, bro. Just in general. Have never stood up for themselves in their entire miserable lives, other than behind a screen. That's why you see these people in public, holding up cell phones any time their heart rate goes over 120. It's their little security blanket, because they've been baby back bitches since birth

This is why they're so arrogant, so confident that what you say happened "didn't really happen" - they can't even imagine a world where someone isn't a cowardly piece of shit, shrinking into their shell like a bitch, until they're a safe distance away from the situation......at which time they fantasize about woulda, coulda, shouldas if not for X, Y and Z

To anyone who might happen to read this: next time, just fucking do it. Say the thing and stop being a bitch. You're not on this earth long enough to take a consecutive string of Ls because you were too scared to stand up for yourself. The world is getting weaker and less confrontational, these opportunities are going to come along less and less. In the future, the commies will just avoid confrontation and just vote to remove you from society behind your back without all the fuss. So....you better fucking speak up while you still can. Bitch.

There are endless things that they can use to pull you over. Things like having a license plate light that isn't bright enough, or having tinted windows that are too dark.

0
WakingKnowledge 0 points ago +1 / -1

yes, but they only get to chose ONE as the initial reason for pulling you over. That is why you ask them 1st thing why they pulled you over.

1
Yaemz123 1 point ago +1 / -0

When it's just you and 2 cops on a dark highway, there is no your word against theirs. There is only their word. This is the sad reality.

1
WakingKnowledge 1 point ago +1 / -0

there was only one cop and I was armed as well.

27
BreadPitt 27 points ago +27 / -0

It's because auto insurance companies lobbied govt for click it or ticket laws to reduce payouts. Let me say clearly wearing a seatbelt is a good idea and there's really no good reason not to wear a seatbelt. However, any action that's made compulsory by govt is tyrannical

8
Mayhem 8 points ago +8 / -0

One of those things that shouldn't be a law, but should just be common sense. If people wanna drive without one great, let Darwin work his magic I don't give a fuck, and the state shouldn't be profiting from something stupid like that.

9
kung-flu-fighting 9 points ago +10 / -1

I think everyone should wear 2 seatbelts and Non seat belt wearers should be banned from using certain roads.

9
anonanomous 9 points ago +9 / -0

Ugh it’s people like you who ruin everything because everyone should be required to wear 3 seatbelts and get a booster seat each year.

1
Eu-is-socialist 1 point ago +3 / -2

Because you are a moron plain and simple. And people as stupid as you should never get a driving license . because clearly you are a danger to everyone ... BEING SO STUPID !

1
Poonough 1 point ago +1 / -0

The government should not be able to protect you from yourself. Suicide should never be "illegal". The only reason we have government is to guide our interactions with others. I don't need the government to tell me what is best for me.

-3
QLARP -3 points ago +1 / -4

Yeah there were anti seat belt protests and people would cut them out of their cars. Lmao libertarians.

20
f_bastiat 20 points ago +20 / -0

Lets be clear, you are retarded if you don't wear a seat belt, that being said, a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt is a tax disguised as the state caring about your safety.

4
QLARP 4 points ago +6 / -2

It's also a way to do drug and money interdiction.

3
f_bastiat 3 points ago +3 / -0

Did you see the police body cam video of the guy on his way from texas to cali to see his kids, and got pulled over in i think Nevada where they took his live savings. He had to have his brother wire him money because he couldnt even afford to get to cali or back home. They didnt charge him with anything they just gave him a piece of paper saying how much money they took and that he would have to contact the DEA to get it back. Made my blood boil.

1
glowingstrawberry 1 point ago +1 / -0

i wear a sealt belt and disagree, if youre alone in your car the risk is very low. should be a choice. how many times did your sealt belt help? in 40y it helped me zero times. hopefully it stays that way.

1
f_bastiat 1 point ago +1 / -0

It's helped me and friends and family, just last month my coworker almost lost his wife and mom at the same time when someone hit the back side of their car and it rolled 4 times, they didn't even have to go to the hospital, just some bruising. About a year before I met my wife, her boyfriend and his best friend were killed in a car accident, would the seatbelts have saved them? We will never know but statistically yeah. I had 2 friends killed while riding a motorcycle, they got something in the road and lost control, slid into a wall at high speed and died, I also think riding motorcycles on the open road is as dumb as not wearing a seatbelt. Personal opinion.

1
glowingstrawberry 1 point ago +1 / -0

so you think a seat belt would save your friends on motorcycles , or do you think we should ban motorcycles?

the point is most wont die and it should be your choice, just like using a motorcycle is your choice.

hell even wearing a helmet should be your choice. helmets absolutely save far more lives than seatbelts, but since they only help the wearer, it should be their choice.

15
OrthamVega 15 points ago +17 / -2

and when a cop pulls you over for speeding dont they have to speed to catch up to you?, and when they use the computer in the car to txt but we cant. FUCK COPS.

3
Major_Nutt 3 points ago +3 / -0

Cops in my town flash their lights for a few seconds just so they don't have to wait at stoplights. Literally just long enough to get through a red, then they're off again.

6
OrthamVega 6 points ago +6 / -0

ya they do that everywhere.

1
bh506407 1 point ago +1 / -0

Lol yeah I was gonna say...that’s every town every where on earth.

11
RiceCrackerUnited 11 points ago +11 / -0

Seat belt laws are unconstitutional. One thing to note, seat belt efficacy is readily measurable in the laboratory, with seat belt theory and computer simulations closely matching empirical testing and the vast amounts of anecdotal evidence from real life crashes. Unlike viruses and vaccines, quite the opposite in comparison actually.

9
Surfsup 9 points ago +10 / -1

You don't want to be wearing a 600lb necklace when you eat shit.

I agree seat belts in a car should be choice.

7
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 7 points ago +7 / -0

I always wear my seatbelt, but I completely agree that it should be a choice. Same thing goes for motorcycle helmets.

3
bh506407 3 points ago +3 / -0

If you own a newer car it’s pretty hard to get around wearing a seatbelt anyway. Unless you are okay with the car constantly screeching at you to put it on, you don’t have much choice.

It used to be easy to just take out the fuse for the seatbelt alarm and that was that. However, car manufacturers got wise to that and started combining airbag functionality with the seatbelt alarm to deter people from getting around the alarm.

2
lanman 2 points ago +2 / -0

Wow. I had no idea motorcycles were that heavy...

2

Some less, some more. The average Harley a cop rides is probably 1000 lbs

Has anyone ever flown out of a car and hut someone else and killed them?

9
BlackPilled4Decades 9 points ago +9 / -0

If there is an unbelted passenger in your car and you are involved in a serious collision, the unbelted passenger can become a missile in your own car. I knew a guy who was belted up, and two of his passengers were not. One of the passengers was thrown from the SUV. The SUV then amputated the leg of the guy who was thrown out, and as the SUV continued to roll, the leg beat the shit out of the belted driver. And the other unbelted passenger eventually landed on top of the belted guy and forced the belted guy to be pushed out of the window by the weight of the unbelted passenger. The belted guy lived, and so did one of the unbelted passengers. I worked for a large company and each of us drivers did 250 city miles a day. Over time, you see a lot of stuff happen. Our company also held safety meetings and we all watched dash cam footage of people we knew getting fucked up. I'm here to tell you, seat belts work. I also agree that fuck cops who write seatbelt tickets.

2
Modernturnkey 2 points ago +2 / -0

No, but I have heard that argument before. Like, people think if you don't wear your seat belt, you'll fly out of your windshield and fly into the other cars windshield and hit the other driver and kill them.

2
xXx_Froggers_xXx 2 points ago +2 / -0

Seatbelt makes it less likely that you will headbutt something and hurt yourself when your car gets rear-ended, or during emergency braking.

1
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 1 point ago +1 / -0

That's not likely to happen, but if you are thrown out of the car you are statistically more likely to die.

0
QLARP 0 points ago +2 / -2

I've only heard of it hurting other people in the car.

6
Stallionstyle 6 points ago +7 / -1

As much as I completely agree with this post, a seatbelt saved my wife's life when she was 17. A truck T-boned the car she was in as the truck was trying to run the red light. My wife was in the passenger seat and her girlfriend insisted that she wear a seatbelt when she first got in her car. My wife had 11 out of 12 broken ribs and a pneumothorax (punctured lungs).

4
BlackPilled4Decades 4 points ago +4 / -0

I was t-boned and my belt left a black and blue bruise on me at all contact points. I don't bruise easy. Life saver.

2
DarkDrai 2 points ago +2 / -0

I mean you should really wear your seatbelt, anyway. You just shouldn't be ticketed if you don't.

3
RolandDelacroix 3 points ago +3 / -0

But he's an elite, they're not supposed to follow the same laws as us civilians. Blue lives matter!

3

Its because retards get to vote… sometimes twice… and decided this was a good idea

3
Merica4EVER 3 points ago +6 / -3

This is fucking dumb because a seatbelt on a motorcycle would be fucking retarded

But yeah fuck the police for real

7
lmao 7 points ago +8 / -1

then the motorcycle should be illegal, if not wearing a seatbelt is too dangerous

6
Merica4EVER 6 points ago +6 / -0

We should all wear seatbelts even when were not driving to protect others!

5
f_bastiat 5 points ago +5 / -0

If you need a belt just to keep you safe in a seat, than why are seats even legal?

2
Strokestrucksmirk 2 points ago +2 / -0

Relevant but on a tangent. Live in southern New Jersey and for some unknown reason to me there were cops hiding in speed traps everywhere yesterday morning. Expressway, local roads by state troopers and county cops. A normal, not significant in any way Sunday morning....dunno

5
Phoenix_Eagle 5 points ago +5 / -0

Low on quota?

2
grad16uc 2 points ago +2 / -0

I don't think I've ever known anyone to get a ticket for no seat belt.

2
BlackPilled4Decades 2 points ago +2 / -0

My very first ticket. I told the cop I had been wearing my belt, but took it off when he pulled me over. He smiled and aske me to put my seatbelt back on. I tried and tried, but it was stuck. The cop then informed me he knew I wasn't wearing it because it was dragging on the ground. I took the ticket. On another occasion, I was cruising at the exact speed limit in my classic VW bug, and some asshat ran a red light and I had to swerve to miss him. Then moments later I heard a motorcycle riding next to me in my blind spot. I look over and observed a cop staring at me. My first reaction was that he was admiring my cool as shit car, so I waved. He scowled and rode away and that's when I realized he was trying to protect me from those dangerous drivers by looking for seatbelt violations on my part.

I never understood the seatbelt laws tbh. I ride motorcycles as my daily vehicle and we do not even have a helmet law in KY, but you will get a ticket for being in a car surrounded by airbags without a seat belt. You can squid out on a sport bike in flip flops and board shorts with no helmet and break zero laws...

1
ADEPhase3AnimalTrial 1 point ago +1 / -0

How come we're not allowed to test out of seatbelts if motorcyclists can?

1
SoldierofKek 1 point ago +1 / -0

ROFL. I've never thought about that. Of course I never had the pleasure of being stopped by a cop on a motorcycle.

1
Pelosi_Halitosis 1 point ago +1 / -0

Flip it around. I ride. I've been clearly in the wrong, pulled over by a cop in a cage. Never have I been ticketed.

Be a human, the cops are no problem.

1
Spawnlingman 1 point ago +1 / -0

The argument is that its safer to be thrown clear from a motorcycle than to be latched to it. Its safer to stay secure inside your car instead of getting thrown through a windshield, a steering wheel or ejected and rolled over. I get police are revenue generators but this meme is facebook stupid.

1
becky21k1 1 point ago +1 / -0

I read a story the other day a guy was given a DWI who was working on his truck in his driveway, had it torn apart where it could not run, and had a beer while working on it. I don't know how true that is, but you can get one for being in the car even in the backseat with the keys out of the ignition. No way is that about safety, it's about revenue.

1
ComTruiseWasRight 1 point ago +1 / -0

Police = Policy Enforcement Officials know nothing about the law much less how to apply it. They work on commission and business is great.

1
CookiesNCream 1 point ago +1 / -0

Lookup Nick DiPaolos bit on seatbelt laws- cracks me up everytime

1
TheJimmReaper 1 point ago +1 / -0

I ride motorcycles and any sort of "Seat Belt" or tying to the motorcycle is pretty much a death warrant for the rider... Being thrown free during a crash or being able to push off and launch yourself away from the bike during a crash is almost definitely going to save your life

It's literally the opposite of the safety that goes into cars, which seat belts drastically improve survival odds

Just wanted to say this as a biker over the years I've heard this "argument" a thousand times, it usually is because some dip stick doesn't understand the basic fundamental differences between different vehicles

1
libman 1 point ago +1 / -0

No nanny-state seat-belt laws in New Hampshire.
