No one is going to go, "Hey, I won't drive my car anymore because I won't buy gas for that extra penny." Which, yes, I understand is really only a tenth of a penny but stupid people only see the first whole number
It’s 9/10 of a penny. The reason you only see this with gas is because it’s, by far, the most purchased commodity on the globe, where even 1/10 of a penny extra adds up to billions of extra dollars world wide every year, like another poster pointed out.
No buyer is gunna be like “fuck that shit” and it’s tons of extra money in the company pockets. So why not lol good marketing I say.
I looked it up. Makes sense to me now. It is a fraction of a cent added on to the price you see per gallon. Ridiculous! I guess that's better than getting .90 instead of the full gallon.
The FED will ratchet up interest rates. They have to. It will, at some point, kill inflation. I remember when mortgage rates were 18%+ and people were still paying that! It was insane.
The problem with that is government interest will explode upward, too. Spending on these huge Socialist bills like the Congress has been doing is going to come back to bite us. They will not be able to spend any more.
Democrats will never cease to promise more and more. Interest rates will not be increased enough because it would crash everything. Only possible outcome is the death of the dollar, but how much longer will they be able to keep the shell game going?
In Venezuela, a country that produced oil had relatively low prices, before a gallon of fuel cost 1 dollar, now it is a luxury to find a gas station with gasoline or diesel.
Not sure of the economics behind it but oil waa trading at 10 dollars a barrel. Its when i first got my license and i recall paying about 1.15 per gallon.
Was $0.999/gallon in 2000 here, was that price since the early 1990's. I took a job 40 miles away while commuting with an old-school full-sized Blazer, no big deal right? By mid-2000, prices went up to $1.35/gallon, and the price has climbed up steadily since then. Ended up selling the blazer for a Samurai.
It was down to $1.40/gal in 2020 under President Trump. Prices were so low, the radical Islamic theocracies and Russia would have went bankrupt due to their dependence on price of oil... then Joe Biden the daughter-rapist came and saved both.
I paid only slightly more than that when I got my license in 2000. Good old days, when calling someone a fag wasn’t treated like a war crime, and trannies were acknowledged as mentally ill.
When I was a young man... Gas was $.47.. and we had 35 gal tanks on just about every vehicle. It was expensive back then to spend $15-20 to fill up your tank.
Now, you can't fill a lawnmower without spending $15-20.
Long story short, I borrowed my buddies car while I was visiting CA. He told me I was good to go, hop in and the freakin gas light is on... Stop for gas and I get 20 dollars worth, just not even thinking about it. The gauge went up one tick, one tick lol. Felt bad for his gf when she drove it back because there was no way she was getting back to his place on what I put in the tank.
I remember Ethyl gas, about 27 9/10 cents per gallon when my mom would get $2 or $3 worth. In the late 60s gas prices could be even cheaper when there were “gas wars”. That is, when several stations in an area would try to outdo each other by lowering their price and the others would retaliate by lowering theirs, too. Sometimes it would end up 15 9/10 cents per gallon.
And most filling stations gave trading stamps with the purchases or gave gas-station brand specific tokens (to collect for free drinking glasses, etc.). Sometimes they gave both. And, of course, full service pumps were the only option. So you got a lot of value for your gas money back then.
It had to be like around '93 or '94 I believe. He said it's a beauty of a car and it only gets about 6 or 7 miles to the gallon, so of course a photo shows up with him at the gas station....lol
There are photos of a different Diablo he allegedly owned, a later model but this is the one I remember, deep blue VT, with the reverse lights up near the red lettering.
When I started driving (1970), gas was $0.295 per gallon. Life was good until Jimmy Carter and his rock music rallies snookered lefwing people into thinking they should vote for him.
He probably got a great deal on this when one of his buddies was going out of business. He bought his jet for basically nothing when one of his buddies was going out of business.
there is a scene early in Die Hard - LA gas prices less than a dollar a gallon
I remember when gas first went above $1 a gallon and all the gas station signs had to change because they all only had space for 2 digits.
In my lifetime I know I’ll see the addition of a 4th digit.
They could've always just dropped that bizarre fraction of a penny crap from the end to save space.
It's not "bizzare" it's marketing bullshit. 9/10 for all intents and purposes that's an extra cent.
Add that up and it's an extra 10's of billions of money a year.
No one is going to go, "Hey, I won't drive my car anymore because I won't buy gas for that extra penny." Which, yes, I understand is really only a tenth of a penny but stupid people only see the first whole number
I think it’s 9 tenths of a penny but yeah. Unless I am misunderstanding.
way back in the stone age I was paying 25 cents a gallon for regular.
The 0.99 cents was added to remind us of the taxes levied on fuel in the first place., decades ago.
We've just been desensitized to it now.
Is it 9/10ths of a penny?
I thought it was 9/10ths of a gallon.

Hmmm. TIL.
I'm just talking about fractions of a penny here
I have always thought it was 9/10th of a gallon. Are you positive?
penny. positive.
I looked it up. Makes sense to me now. It is a fraction of a cent added on to the price you see per gallon. Ridiculous! I guess that's better than getting .90 instead of the full gallon.
It's so they don't have to round it up to an even dollar, making it seem more expensive. It's a psyop.
Hope for the best prepare for the worst. Venezuela saw first hand what inflation really means.
Yeah but Venezuela's communism wasn't done right. Ours will be, and handled entirely by China. Take that you racist Drumpftards.
/Sarcasm
I think Bukele is based
They sure did, but not really with gas!
That's one of the few things that stayed cheap. And I mean CHEAP.
30 cents to fill up a truck! They'll even give it to you for free if you don't have cash.
Since the oil industry is nationalized, the government basically gives it out to placate the people and keep them from revolting.
It's the one thing that keeps them from chaos.
The FED will ratchet up interest rates. They have to. It will, at some point, kill inflation. I remember when mortgage rates were 18%+ and people were still paying that! It was insane.

At the rate things are going with the supply chain, it could happen this year.
Same, back when you could buy Regular Leaded gasoline. It was .95 cents a gallon and great to be a young guy with a truck.
We had to get new pumps also. Only went to 99
Back in college, I could fill my tank and get a carton of smokes for $20 - and get change back. Granted, it was a VW, but still.
Thanks for leaving a better world.
My boomer dad says he used to tell himself "wow I live in the best city, in the best state, of the entire country. (He's born and raised in LA)
Yes, I was in my youth driving around in SoCal when that movie came out. Can confirm, a gallon of gas and a pack of cigs were both under $1 each.
The opening montage in The Sopranos has 97¢ gas.
It was only a brief period in the late '90s that it was that cheap but it's still immortalized there.
cool ill have to look for that.
That's two bucks a gallon adjusted for inflation in today's dollars.

El Donaldo Diablo rides again.
Both gas and lambos are roughly 3-4x more expensive in dollar terms now.
It was down to $1.40/gal in 2020 under President Trump. Prices were so low, the radical Islamic theocracies and Russia would have went bankrupt due to their dependence on price of oil... then Joe Biden the daughter-rapist came and saved both.
In KC got down to .99 a gal for couple days under Trump.
Was like $1.59/gal in PA at the peak of the original lockdowns in like April 2020. More than double that now.
It got down to a dollar in a lot of places in the US.
In KC got down to .99 a gal for couple days under Trump.
You sound like me.
It was so awesome under Trump. Gas prices were at a 20+ year low around me.
Back when I was making $8 an hour k was paying almost $4 a gallon for gas, driving a big old caddy lol.
Fast forward 10 years and I'm making $25 and gas is under $2.
I feel like Ed Bassmaster should do a "would you just look at that" skit while pointing to gas prices.
JUST LOOK AT IT
On the strength dawg
2.40 in gas Prices Adjusted for Inflation (In 2020 Dollars)
I paid only slightly more than that when I got my license in 2000. Good old days, when calling someone a fag wasn’t treated like a war crime, and trannies were acknowledged as mentally ill.
We should have pumped the brakes when calling someone a retard landed you in the hot seat.
its back in fashion boys
I was asked to apologize at work for saying a process we have is retarded. I couldn't believe it.
I tell people they're late in french
You're en retard

Jesus that sucks.
I remember leaded gas and .79 a gallon.
USSA: Gas has always been $5/gl. You just can't remember because of all the lead you've inhaled.
That's why those karens yell at kids for skateboarding or fishing.
Lead poisoning.

This is peak performance, you may not agree but that makes you wrong.
Incredible. BRB going to make a meme.
Link me to this meme when you're done, I'd like to see, please.

Meh.
I like the '80's feel though.
The fact I saw and bought gas at $1.90 in 2020.
That's in West Palm Beach.
I met him that day. He was very approachable and cool to talk to.
How do you know what day it was ?
The pink shirt. He came back a few days later trying to stuff a patio chair into that Diablo to bring to Mar-A-Lago.
That's an incredible story! Do you remember them year? Looks like they early 2000s
It had to be like around '93 or '94 I believe. He said it's a beauty of a car and it only gets about 6 or 7 miles to the gallon, so of course a photo shows up with him at the gas station....lol

Back then, we were outraged at how expensive gas was getting after years of being in th 80 cents to 99 cents range.
Does it say LGB ?
When I started driving (1970), gas was $0.295 per gallon. Life was good until Jimmy Carter and his rock music rallies snookered lefwing people into thinking they should vote for him.
...and the 55MPH speed limit.
Diablo Roadster.
those fetch a pretty penny nowadays
You know he's looking at the "I did that!" sticker on the pump.
Time traveler confirmed

ROLLING LIKE A BOSS
That dude looks familiar...
He probably got a great deal on this when one of his buddies was going out of business. He bought his jet for basically nothing when one of his buddies was going out of business.
He actually bought this new. It sold a few years back on eBay, and Trump was the first owner.
When we moved to FLA in 1966, FLA GAS was ,25 cents a gal. In 71 when I started driving it was .50 cents a gallon. Min wage was 1.60 p/hr....
Gimme one fiddy on pump too
Full Service too.
And would you look at Donald Trump standing next to the black car!
I too was browsing the rare photo thread just now
THICC!
Absolute unit
What year was that picture taken? Around here it would be like 1996.
It took me forever to figure out that the driver's side door is open. I was going, "what's that thing?".
Nice ride, President Trump!
Gas here dropped to 1.73 January 2021 before Xiden took over. I filled up and then it dropped to 1.68. Felt dumb (over about 45 cents...)
These were literally the gas prices just before Obama took office.
Thats even full-service
Over a dollar! Outrageous!
This is a scene taken from GTA5 right before Biden made the theft real.
The gas prices are at best only the third most remarkable thing to see in that picture.
That is a sexy beast. The Lambo is pretty nice, too.
https://patriots.win/p/141F5nUmJP/
I like how his plate calls the driver behind him a losa!
Saw even lower prices when oil was negative
