Its a sad commentary on today's society that we have to actually tell people that if they aren't sick, they shouldn't get tested. Apparently, if we don't, there are thousands of people dumb enough to go stand outside in freezing weather for hours to get a test.
I have some friends that go and get tested all the time. The tests appear to have the accuracy of a coin flip. I always ask them why they got tested and I never get an answer. Usually just a shrug.
Some companies are still giving 10 days paid days off. If I wasn't so against all of this bullshit I'd probably test too. Who am I kidding, I'd just be asked to telework.
I finally caught covid at Christmas, and was sick during our unpaid winter shut down, so I got paid to be sick even though i wasnt supposed to go to work somehow 😂
I've heard of crazy stories of people who are planning a get together and one of the people was "exposed" to someone who had coof, but didn't see a need to go for a test since they didn't feel sick and the ensuing drama of everyone freaking out because this person may have COVID and all this crap. It's clown world to the extreme.
This makes no sense at all. Where I live (NYC), the line for tests can be up to 4 hours. There's no way I would stand in line in the cold weather for 4 hours, you'll get sick doing that.
That's crazy. I was at the CVS picking up a RX and noticed they had the Covid tests right there at the counter. I said are those available for sale? She said yes. I bought 4 of them. None of us are sick at this time, but we have some folks traveling in for a visit and it is good to have a few tests on hand.
No idea how good they are. I had "something" after the holidays. I took Ivermectin and my vitamins. I emailed my doctor told him I had what I thought was a head cold and the meds I was taking (DayQuil, Zicam, etc.) and the next day his nurse called and said I should come in for a Covid Test. The earliest they could get me in was 6 days later. I said no thanks. The following day I was fine! The Dr. emails me and asks why I didn't take the appointment. I said if I tested positive, would you have me do anything different than I'm doing now? He said no. I said I "self quarantined" for 5 days and I have no more symptoms, so I am done.
It could have been a regular cold and the test was a false positive. The generic "stay home and self-quarantine and rest" is good advice in either case.
I suspect that a large percentage of the "Omicron surge" is regular flu plus a false positive test.
The issue is this is what Doctors are telling people, treat it like a cold. Then someone gets really sick and off to the hospital they go. I'm doing the IVM on my own. Basically the guidance was take NyQuil and Zicam and if you get really sick go to the hospital.
I think a large percentage of that surge is people being tested due to the (now cancelled) OSHA mandate. Numbers in my county are already going down since then.
I told my son the other day "always remember, most people are of average intelligence or below". When he fully grasped it, the look he gave me was priceless.
I think the issue is being able to go back to work. I got a test to prove I’m negative so I wouldn’t potentially spread the China virus to other people.
At this point if you think you have it... you have it. No reason to go get tested.
I hear NYC has the problem of people find out they're positive for covid, then go to the hospital asking can you save me before I die? Then they say you're not going to die, go home with this OTC stuff.
Most people just go to walk in clinics that prescribe OTC stuff.
We are, while THEY are ignorant, spoiled toddlers who've never been told no and who've been shielded from reality their whole lives by their failed parents.
The tests, if and when they work, are only supposed to be used for people who are actively sick and showing symptoms. This entire pandemic was built on the lies of false positive tests and people sitting at home, perfectly healthy, because a test said they are “positive”.
Keep applying pressure. "Being nice" to politicians who are simply doing what they should doesn't result in anything and just allows them to take advantage of you.
This is also going to cause "number of reported cases" to crash. The test itself has a high false positive rate. People with mild symptoms who really are positive also won't get tested.

Time off work paid.

As a remote office worker during the pandemic we get zero free time off for catching Covid
My company switched it from 10 to 5, but I've taken 0 so I feel the same as you...

The Covid reaction has made every established business very stupid with their policies.

Don't forget that some of the people in line are probably legit sick.

I'm not sure how those self-test kits compare to the ones you would get at a test site.

So tired of hypochondria being vogue.
It's also sad that we have to tell people to stay home if they have mild, cold symptoms and to only use the ER for gasp EMERGENCIES

Oh? You mean stay home and rest when you got a flu or cold ? what a novel idea.

WHY DOES THE AMERICAN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM SUCK?!?!?!????

Common sense is in short supply nowadays.
it just ain't that common
I'm enjoying watching liberals go into rage spirals because of Youngkin.
Almost like.. We're adults
We are, while THEY are ignorant, spoiled toddlers who've never been told no and who've been shielded from reality their whole lives by their failed parents.
Wow so sensible. That's hard to come by these days. Someone normal in power gives me some hope.
So far better than expected. Let's see what happens with the schools, though.

HOW IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE ENTIRE TIME
Wow common sense. It's a fucking miracle
Translation: You got the flu! Stay home and eat chicken soup! When you feel better you can go back to work!
Not The Bee: Governor Uses Common Sense.
Sad that sheep need to be told this
So Common sense?
In Clown World, not over reacting is a burden on healthcare services. "He's being negligent by spreading the disease and making more people sick."
Words that SHOULD be coming from a president.
This is how you defeat “covid19”
Youngkin has been impressive so far.
a MAGA in RINO's clothing (usually we get the reverse)
Common sense. Really depressing it is cause for celebration, but here we are.
I feel my hesitation melting away. Desantis won't run for 2024, but I think he found his running mate.
Early treatment results in 99%+ survival rate. I'll take the libertarian route on this one, let the people decide.
NOOOOOOO!!!!!! MUH CARLYLE!!!!!!!!!! MUH RINO!!!!!!!!!!! MUH MITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! MUHHHHHHH DDDOOOOOOM!!!!!!
I’m impressed
He will discourage them while having sex with his tranny staff members, covid is fake News all these people are morons.
This faggot Never Trumper thinks we forgot.
He should tell Hugh: We never forget anything. Ever.
