He was king and chieftain of the Arverni who united with the Gauls to revolt against the Romans.

Close enough, upvoted just for knowing who the hell he was.

1
Highspergamy 1 point ago +1 / -0

The Arverni were a Gallic tribe. For a couple of centuries I believe they were the most powerful tribe among the Gauls.

1
NvJohansson 1 point ago +1 / -0

Vercingetorix (Latin: [u̯ɛrkɪŋˈɡɛtɔriːks]; c. 82 – 46 BC) was a king and chieftain of the Arverni tribe who united the Gauls in a failed revolt against Roman forces during the last phase of Julius Caesar's Gallic Wars. Despite having willingly surrendered to Caesar, he was executed in Rome.

4
KillAllPedophiles 4 points ago +4 / -0

He had gall, until Caesar rammed his salad down his throat.

4

We need another Caesar, someone who will cross our metaphorical Rubicon.

2
CrispyQuesoSalami 2 points ago +2 / -0

I love this scene from Rome.

Work of fiction obviously but damn relevant.

Since we seem to be mirroring Rome and other similar societies, my hope remains that we're just in a stage of decline, like Rome at the times before Ceasar rose, and not in a final swan dive into the eternal pit.

This country will sadly never be the same as it was, but that doesn't mean that we can't stop the path were on and even create something better once we do.

1
Highspergamy 1 point ago +1 / -0

We tried Rubicon Don. I'm not optimistic, nor dooming. What or who is our next great white hope? Rubicon Ron?

3
RoyalHammer 3 points ago +3 / -0

Mitch the Bitch (possible was Lindsey) said hes vote against trump if he pardoned Assange

1
InternationalSpy007 1 point ago +1 / -0

Assange is not an American, nor was he in America in 2010, but he did publish classified intelligence stolen from America by a US soldier.

As such, forgiving Assange might have been too much, but simply ignoring him, and doing nothing (as Trump did) was probably the right choice.

As for the mentally ill US soldier who stole the classified info and sent it to a foreigner, they should have been punished even more severely.

Sadly, Obama liked him too much, and let him go home early.

-8
Barbs -8 points ago +9 / -17

He tried. Assange said no. He didn’t want it to look like he was working with GEOTUS. Probably not Assange’s smartest move.

16

If we gonna start executing traitors don't stop with those two. There's hundreds out there.

6
lerm4comptroller 6 points ago +7 / -1

If you want to have more luck with this one, people seem to like Snowden less when they learn more about his past and who he actually is and attack less fanatically when you remind them of it:

Snowden worked for the CIA. This is public knowledge and even on his Wiki.

(BTW, pretty sure the drops you're talking about above were Manning as he just dumped all sorts of files and it did include those names and pictures. Snowden released to "gatekeepers"--they even used that word for themselves, blegh--at what became the Intercept, and they only saw fit to publish PowerPoint slides that confirmed William Binney's actual whistleblowing from years earlier. Snowden really didn't release any info that wasn't already known, one of the many very big problems here...)

1
FormerGraveheart 1 point ago +1 / -0

Right.

-14
Wokism -14 points ago +7 / -21

Holy hell the downvotes. Obviously these smooth brain retards don’t understand that Snowden is CIA and a total POS. Who got a Hollywood movie? Who gets air time on msm? Who is hailed a hero and who is painted a villain? Assange is a real journalist. Snowden is a traitor. It couldn’t be more obvious.

3
Highspergamy 3 points ago +3 / -0

Allow me. They aren't. True libertarians are the "far right", conservatism is centrist.

1
almond_activator 1 point ago +1 / -0

You don't find many libertarians who mistrust poofters, potheads, and the like. They typically lack socially conservative values on degeneracy. They share this with the left.

It's possible to have a personal distaste for things which can be done in the absence of government authority while still opposing that authority and its evils, but for some reason they rarely, if ever, do.

-8
Massive_Reaction -8 points ago +2 / -10

This isn’t even a controversial view.
Libertarians are left on everything but the economy and guns.
Some of them referred to themselves as classically liberal.
How do you not know this?

10
Take_it_back 10 points ago +10 / -0

Our founders were “classically liberal.”

It means you believe in individual liberty.

A libertarian really goes a bit further although personal definitions can vary.

A libertarian can be against gay people, for instance, they just don’t believe that the violence of the state should be used against them. They might choose to socially and economically ostracize them, but not make their lifestyle illegal. This in no way makes them part of the political left. For the most part libertarian just doesn’t apply to social issues, at least in terms of government actions because libertarians tend to see the government as an illegitimate means of accomplishing most if not all things.

-12
deleted -12 points ago +2 / -14
7
thisguy883 7 points ago +7 / -0

How?

Libertarians, TRUE libertarians (not the faggots who run the party) really don't see eye-to-eye with leftists.

A leftist wants the state to control just about everything and libertarians do not.

A leftist promotes gays and transgenders and libertarians don't care, as long as they aren't forced into their lifestyles.

A leftist will use the state to enforce garbage policies; a libertarian tells the state to fuck right off.

Are you referring to open borders and smoking marijuana?

Again, most TRUE libertarians know the problem with open borders. It leads to violence and crime to allow people to move in without a proper vetting process.

Libertarians again don't give a shit about marijuana and are in the mindset of, "you can do what ever you want as long as you leave us alone." which I think is fair.

3
JesusWept 3 points ago +3 / -0

Libertarians are impractical about reality, but they aren't even slightly leftist. They think open borders are good, for example, because they think govts have no right to limit movement of anyone; i.e., conservatism for the childlike.

-17

8
Take_it_back 8 points ago +9 / -1

I don’t really accept that definition of right wing, but we can run with that.

A libertarian believes that the violence of the state is illegitimate. However they feel about social issues they wouldn’t advocate using a state apparatus to control people’s behavior.

-19
deleted -19 points ago +1 / -20
11
H8speech 11 points ago +11 / -0

The state isn’t violent? Tell that to the J6ers being beaten.

11
Take_it_back 11 points ago +11 / -0

How does the state accomplish anything? EVERYTHING they do is backed by violence. All states, everywhere. Is it a necessary evil? Maybe. Most self described libertarians will accept some minimal level of government. The small government our founders envisioned would certainly feel like anarchy to those accustomed to the Leviathan that now dominates every aspect of our life. It’s always been liberty vs security and our society has shown its cowardice by giving away all of its essential liberties.

7
decafllort 7 points ago +10 / -3

You have to buy into that argument because the state is literally a monopoly on violence. If laws and taxes didn't carry the threat of violence, they would be polite suggestions.

To think that the only thing you'd agree with fucking Hillary of all people is that the guy who exposed her crimes should be executed, and I'm the leftist? Your priorities are all twisted because ultimately you value the state rather than the people it supposedly serves. 7
11Bignveiny 7 points ago +7 / -0

Libertarianism is decayed Jeffersonianism characterized by a frivolous hostility to the state.

The Constitution created the American nation-state. If you reduce the state to nothing like how libertarianism demands, then all you’re left with is the nation. A nation without a state is ripe for conquest by outside entities, like the Kurdish nation.

Libertarianism throws the baby (state) out without the bath water (deep state corruption). Actual conservatism wants to keeps the baby alive and get rid of the filthy bath water

Why Snowden? Not taking a side, just curious; thought they both leaked

11
Caroigne 11 points ago +11 / -0

Not the OP, but for me:

Assange isn't an American citizen, Snowden is. They have different responsibilities to the US and its security.

Assange is a journalist. Snowden had a security clearance. There are rules for govt. employee whistleblowers, and confidentiality agreements.

Assange released information that was brought to him (at multiple times over years), Snowden chose to work with the CIA, and then the "competing" NSA, and released dirt on only the NSA despite the CIA being known to be worse (the worst?). It seems like an attempt (by the CIA) to weaken and take over the NSA.

I could be wrong about that last part, but the fact remains that a non-citizen not living in the US does not have the same responsibilities to a country they do not in any way belong to.

Even if I assume the best about Assange and Snowden as well as their releases, the government always has a stronger case against a citizen with security clearance breaking their agreements than against a non-citizen publishing something someone gives them.

13
sir_rockness 13 points ago +13 / -0

Man fuck the secret clearance.

Our responsibility should be to uphold the constitution. The entire fucking country is corrupt.

This is my biggest complaint of the Trump presidency (other than the project warp speed big pharma bull fucking shit) The release of pedophile Podesta's emails one month before the election certainly enabled Trump to rocket in the polls. It had the Disneys in damage control every day and claiming muh Russia. Unfortunately Trump's refusal to issue a pardon at the end of his term, quite frankly sucks balls.

Once the news media is forever distrusted, only then will things massively improve.

11
americandrunk 11 points ago +12 / -1

This is nonsense. Everyone during the communist era was forced to be in the communist party. All the kids got little red communist membership books in first grade.

Putin is a Russian nationalist fighting for his people and his country. The west has been screwing over Russia since the fall of the USSR. Our governments keep on promising not to stab them in the Back and at every turn they stab them in the back.

Russia has a 10 000 year old military strategic set of requirements that go deep deep into their history. Because of where the Rus are located they have always been under attack from the east, west and south. Over the last 10k years they have developed a deep deep need for buffer zones. During the cold war the eastern bloc was that buffer zone. When the USSR fell, the west made a whole ton of promises to them in exchange for peace and favour which was basically as set of agreements that they would not move nato forces toward Rus lines and not absorb the eastern bloc into Nato.

What has the west done? Moved Nato lines forward up to the border and absorbed every eastern bloc into Nato.

Except one. Do you know which one? That's right, Ukraine.

Ukraine was about to join nato and even requested nuclear weapons on its land to be placed by the west at a EU meeting. This was all public, recorded, you can find the video online.

The Rus are basically saying enough is enough, no more.

And Putin is standing up for his people. He is a good man doing what should have been done 30 years ago.

The Rus and Ukranians are our friends and we should be looking to forge alliances with them against the turks, muslims, chinese and africans.

Not to mention the oligarchs/gangsters who bought up all of the property. The fall of the Soviet Union was not great for Russia. The lifespan for men fell like 6 years something crazy like that. Not saying the Soviet Union was good, but the way the Russian Federation was set up was a huge failure.

If you tell the truth, you are the enemy of many of the world's current governments. It's almost like they took "he who smelled it dealt it" and applied it to crime.

As such Julian Assange is held to be criminally responsible for revealing the truth of war crimes which pretty much amounts to genocide..... while those that actually perpetrated them, walk free ánd continue ruling in such a perverted way that they get courts to rule in favor of things like these.

Julian Assange violated no laws, but American laws, which do not apply to him.

Go with me here...

Assange essentially is a prisoner right now. If he gets extradited to the US before 2025, he would be held until a trial (right?) and would end up in a federal prison. While prison is not a great place to be, he's essentially a prisoner right now.

So, he gets extradited and is in US custody. If he doesn't get suicided, Trump 2025 could commute his sentence and make Assange a free man. I don't think Assange would be pardoned because, truthfully, the WikiLeaks is illegal because it makes classified information public, but it also exposes highly unethical stuff. This is the bad part about it... in order to try to get the unethical stuff to end, it needs to be exposed, which is illegal. It's a cycle, and Assange is the fall guy.

I can't say I agree with what WikiLeaks is doing because it is unethical and illegal... but damn, it's important what they are doing as well. It's a contradiction, and we have to come to terms with a contradiction, we have to choose one or the other. Both cannot co-exist. And because of this, I think it's more important to expose the unethical behavior than it is to keep their documents secret.

Assange, I'm on your side, I hope you become a free man... you are a hero and taking the arrows. It's falling on deaf ears, lots of people don't care about the corruption, but most of us here do.

The true crime isn't anything Assange did, but the way he has been treated.

2
Hillarys_Ballsack 2 points ago +2 / -0

Slight bit of nerding: this isn't how extradition works in the UK and OP's wording is a bit misleading. What happens now is her case is the Home Secretary looks at it, and makes the decision. That doesn't always mean "yes", because it's political (executive, not judicial). For example, the law prevents her from extraditing anyone who could receive a sentence of death, suffer torture, get an unfair sentence, or where the suicide risk is high.

The likelihood is she'll agree it to get the problem off UK hands, but Assange has a lot of legal help. After that, he can appeal her decision in the courts. This will just go on, and on, and on, and on.
