This. Light exposure. They had our baby under the light, tiny cotton balls as eye goggles, was dark-ish skinned at birth, got lighter/normal as days went on. Ended up perfectly healthy. Was a looong time ago, medicine is surely even better by now.
If they let you hold the baby, talk/whisper to her. Tell her she's loved.

I was able to bring my jaundiced one home. They told me just to stick her in the sunlight while she was sleeping. Jaundice was cleared up before her 2 week check up.
My niece had jaundice. After a week in the hospital they sent them home with a special light baby seat for her to sit in couple times a day. She started doing much better, and is alright now. This was over 5 years ago

My first kid was born premature and spent a few weeks in the NICU. They took him from the delivery room straight to the NICU immediately. I nearly lost it when they started intubating him.
Had to spend some time under the light due to jaundice, but nothing serious.
Both my kids had this. Both fine just had to stay an extra day under the bilirubin lamp. I hope that this is all it is. Prayers for your baby.

She ended up not needing it, numbers came down massively and pretty suddenly.
Praying. Do you have a name? Helps me make it more personal. My daughter was in the NICU for 2 months due to being born extremely early, she's now 4 and healthy.

Don't be that hard on yourself. We're all rotten to some extent. Humility + faith is the way. "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed." Say the Jesus prayer over and over again (Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner).

It can take awhile for physicians to figure out what's going on. From vitals and physical exam, one can determine how sick someone is, but not necessarily the cause - especially in neonates, where just about every infectious disease known to man manifests with 10x severity, where there's metabolic disorders so rare that only a handful of cases are ever known to have had it, and just about everything the mom eats / drinks / breathes ends up in the baby via shared circulation.
There is a difference between waiting to know more before telling a family one's findings with more certainty, and withholding information out of spite.
