Let's pump the brake pedal here. There's a reason why we in Louisiana are near last in education. East Baton Rouge parish just last week notified teachers in the gifted and talented program that their positions are being eliminated and they will have to apply for different teaching positions OUTSIDE of the gifted and talented program. School system is killing a program designed to help "more advanced" kids and putting them all in the traditional program with much lower standards. Just one more reason we pulled our kids long ago and homeschool them.
From what I've read, it doesn't sound like the school system is getting rid of the gifted and talented programs. Staffing shortages led the superintendent to redistribute staff and classroom sizes, but the program itself still exists.
Not suggesting this isn't a bad move for other reasons or disputing Louisiana's quality of education issues -- and way more power to you in homeschooling your kids! -- but at least from what I can tell it doesn't look like kids are being removed from these programs.
We made several friends for the time we were in G&T. Everyone still in has stated their class sizes have not shrunk and their teachers this year were already “notified”. Mind you most of these are Indian and Asian. They are not happy.
All states should tell the Fed DOE to get Fucked.
Along with the teachers unions.
Actual History, Arithmetic, Reading and Writing are all that should matter!

Common core is complete shit. I was doing math with my nephews and they could do 4+3, but can’t do 44 + 33. I was trying to explain why that’s 77 but they can’t figure it out. They were drawing lines and boxes to the side to get to 4 + 3, but blanked out when I showed them 44 + 77 and couldn’t understand what I was explaining. That’s some dystopian reality stuff
Common core is fundamentally different, it can’t just be adopted into the minds of the traditional arithmetic users. And vice versa, which is a bit of the issue.
I understand that there are arguments for common core. They are wrong. I agree with the experts who aren’t Politically Marxist. I can’t think of a single time a marxist was right about something
