Honestly if you are 18 and don’t know this, both the school system and your parents grossly failed you.

I was working part time with a work permit at 15, it amazes me that someone could get to the age of 18 an not at least have heard about taxation.

Same, my parents forced me to work at 15, and I was always thought about finances. My dad is a financial advisor. To this day all of my friends ask me questions like I’m their HR department and financial advisor, not over complicated stuff either, basic shit. Then these people wonder why I’m the same age, same career, but have exponentially more money than them. People don’t know shit and the school system has totally failed in this regard.

My dad had me help him out with the math so he could decide between 401k vs ira when I was 15. Looking back, obviously he could have done the math himself. But I learned to exploit matches and loopholes, and now my friends treat me like a financial advisor.
