Twitter is likely to be attacked and certain to continue to be threatened. Despite my hope for a moderate improvement of the situation on Twitter, I think it is best to not rely on it and to do now what we should have done years ago:
- Build up alternative communications platforms
- Bring others away from main-stream social media (MSSM) to there
Twitter should be used primarily to get people off of Twitter and onto more free platforms.
Truth Social (available only in USA) and Gab (blocked some nations) copied software for ActivityPub microblogging and crippled it by removing the federation (networking between servers) feature. The goal of that is to create a more captive user base. Don't let yourself be treated like livestock. Pick from hundreds of free, networked, ActivityPub microblogging servers to join.
Q: What is federation?
A: It lets users subscribe and message people who have accounts on different servers, and search across servers.
[email protected] and [email protected] can subscribe to and message each other. They also find each other's messages in search.

This is a really great idea, I've been thinking about this for some time now.
Just decentralize the whole apparatus, make it an old-school BBS-mail type of system, where servers forward messages to other servers, and so on in a chain independently (with redundancy).
And anyone should be able to get a server up and running, even on a home computer.
That would be millions of nodes that send and receive information independent of any central body.
Exactly like the old 1980s BBS model.

I doubt anyone who upvoted this thread read it or followed through with the links.
At least the last link is relevant.
The problem was that the software on the host changed so that all valid pages except the top became dead links.
Specifically, the files with the name extension
.mdmlwere processed as a page and now they are not.I think I fixed all the links now. If you find any dead links, let me know.
The link was dead due to a file having a name that the server didn't process correctly. (Unrecognized file name extension.) That is repaired now. Thanks for the report. Yes, I guess few tried and no one reported the problem.
The Gab link was wrong. Shall be fixed soon.
