We've already got the recession, there's a full blown depression looming in the horizon.

24
Henry_Cuntmantle 24 points ago +25 / -1

Is that true, or did they just start calling a depression "recessions"?

31
RexCollumSilvarum 31 points ago +31 / -0

They did. Even "depression" was at first, in the 1930s, a euphemism for what had always been a "panic".

I suspect we will be calling major wars "skirmishes" and prisons for January 6 detainees "resorts" soon enough.

56

Couldn’t agree more. I think the real looming problem is the amount of people working fake, cushy zoom meeting jobs. 6
MLGS 6 points ago +6 / -0

Interest rates going up to the point that banks have to start investing in actual businesses that provide something useful instead of fake businesses that just make numbers go up is going to be an incredible shock to the US, especially after a decade and a half of the Federal Reserve hiding structural problems by materializing trillions in fake money.

5
Specter 5 points ago +6 / -1

I have a family member working a “project manager” role at Cisco (no technical skill set, no sales, very little value add). Last week they had Juneteenth off, and they also do not work fridays. They work 3-4 days on average for over $200k salary. Just a couple pointless zoom calls per week. The cushy zoom tech jobs have really gotten out of hand.

7
tholinz 7 points ago +7 / -0

A good project manager is absolutely worth a six figure salary, depending on the industry. It’s almost impossible to manage large scale changes without project management. IT is especially addicted to their funky PM systems, but I don’t think there’s an industry that doesn’t use them.

4
Specter 4 points ago +4 / -0

I believe in paying someone based on the value they add or revenues they bring in. If a project manager is adding value that justifies $200k+ then absolutely I support that. This individual spends more time memorizing the employee benefit package and vacationing then actually working. It’s truly amazing

4
TheTelltaleFly 4 points ago +4 / -0

This is true. It is actually a hard, thankless job, when you’re really managing a large project. A lot of people use the title Project Manager when they’re really managing a small team of people doing one specific thing. The hard part is being responsible for the entire project: client deliverables, company profitably, staffing, scheduling, cash flow.. it’s a lot of work.

1

6
Cantshadowbanthemall 6 points ago +6 / -0

There's a certification for being a PM?

11
schiff_for_brains 11 points ago +11 / -0

Yes. There is PMP (Project Management Professional) and CAPM (Certified Associate Project Manager) from the Project Management Institute.

I think COMP TIA might have a Project+ certification. That program isn’t nearly as established but having it is probably better than nothing.

Numerous universities have graduate programs and certificates in project management too.

PMP and significant industry experience can be quite lucrative, as you can be positioned to control anywhere from millions to billions of input and output.

5
shaven_llama 5 points ago +5 / -0

Software engineer with an MBA here. Used to have a PMP. It was 100% BS -- just like the MBA :)

I dropped the PMP when I realized what a scam it was. It forces you to continuously earn continuing education credits (which cost $$) to maintain the certification.

Also, I don't really want to be a project manager :D

4
Phoenix_Eagle 4 points ago +4 / -0

Most professional certificate or license requires continuing credit.

I'm a PE and I still have to submit annual PDH to the state licensing board (and the renewal fee $$$$) to be able to do my job.

2
shaven_llama 2 points ago +2 / -0

I suppose it doesn't matter with something like a PE that you absolutely need to make a living. PMI really, really wants their certifications to achieve the same level of relevance but hopefully they fail.

32
kent [S] 32 points ago +34 / -2

I've seen supervisors take advantage of people with a hard work ethic. They'll try to work them harder to get them sick and mess with their life. The only way to fight back is to be lazy in that situation by just doing enough to not get fired while watching your back against the supervisor.

21
Malfunction 21 points ago +21 / -0

I used to have a strong work ethic and prided myself for always being amongst the top producers. Then, year after year, I watched the lazy screw-ups get promoted. Finally realized that companies can't promote the producers or else nothing would ever get done. Now days I still try to do good work I just don't bust my ass doing it anymore.

7
kent [S] 7 points ago +7 / -0

My theory is the more lazy and stupid you can be the more money and power you'll get from government and corporations. Joe Biden seems to be proving my point.

5
BoomShtick 5 points ago +5 / -0

Not really, it’s the ones that bitch and whine that are promoted to be rid of, or the brown nosers that highlight all their little achievements. I good boss will recognize a hard worker without said worker having to spell out in detail all that they have done at year end. Poor leadership destroys organization, like a cancer that metastasis.

2
kent [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

I've seen one good leader out of every five. Most likely you're going to end up with bad leaders is low wage jobs and even worse brown nosing supervisors so far up the manager's butt and all for a little power in their job that pays a few dollars extra per hour over the other employees.

13
InarosPrime 13 points ago +14 / -1

I just left a job because they refused to recognize the need for work/life balance. I was on-call 24/7/365, responding to work orders on weekends and holidays more often than not, and always stressed out. What pushed me over the edge was when they wanted to add another person's work (they resigned) after having already added two people's responsibilities to my workload. I have very much enjoyed the past month off and I don't expect to find work anytime soon due to the direction the economy is headed.

TL;DR: Employers don't care; they will burn out hard workers just to make an extra dime.

3
kent [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

On call jobs are annoying if it's a low wage job. I'd just turn my phone off and say screw them. I'd rather be fired than awaken after 2 hours of sleep to come to a low wage job.

16
NotMyGovernor 16 points ago +19 / -3

Well ironically it’s supposed to be a lot of coding jobs that’ll get hit lol.

We’ll see if that’s true. Middle management will always suggest the coders go before they do. But the “tech” industry has incredible amounts of fat to shave without selling the engine to pay for the gas.

6
schiff_for_brains 6 points ago +6 / -0

A single coder can do the work of 1000 peons by teaching a computer how to do menial tasks. Middle managers get fired and some sucker coder gets a small bump to be the middle manager and a coder.

2
shaven_llama 2 points ago +2 / -0

One of the first things they do is just stop hiring, and then allow headcount to shrink via attrition. My employer has already done this.

2
BringTheCat789 2 points ago +2 / -0

Coding jobs won't go away. The bullshit jobs by people who call themselves "coders" will. All of these big tech companies are full of "coders" who don't know shit. They may understand the absolute basics, but they have absolutely zero business working on something people actually use.

These people are why modern software is such shit. You have a few actual coders doing the work, and hundreds of diversity hires shitting out piss-poor code. The actual coders now have to fix their shit in addition to developing the app. And they get the workload of hundreds of people because they are carrying their entire team. So they don't even have the time to optimize their own code.

This is largely a result of the "learn to code" bullshit and pushing everyone into "STEM." Coding is a mindset and some people just don't have it. Anyone can learn what an if statement is, but seeing a problem and coming up with the best way to tackle it efficiently and anticipating other problems that your solution may cause is not something that can be taught.

So you end up with idiots with degrees who can pass coding tests. But have no idea how to actually code something worth a darn.

The state of modern software is horrible and is only getting worse.

To prove it: I want you to think for a second about a smart phone from 10 years ago and a smart phone from today. Besides tiny features and GUI changes, does your phone today do anything different than your phone from 10 years ago? Or rather, do you actually use your phone to do anything different? For the most part, you are still just viewing text, images, and video from the internet. Nothing more complicated than that, really. But the hardware if your modern phone is so much faster than the hardware of your phone from 10 years ago.

So why does your phone still take the same amount of time to boot? Why do apps ever crash?

Your phone today is capable of doing some crazy calculations in milliseconds. Yet it crashes sometimes while trying to show you text and images.

This is because modern software is so poorly coded. Android, iOS, and all the major apps (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.).

And don't get me started about apps in the first place. Apps are such bullshit in most cases. There is no reason for banks to use an app instead of a mobile site. But consumers think an app is necessary, and websites will artificially make the website experience worse to get you to download the app, like an intrusive banner with a link to download the app (Capital One, for example) or literally just limiting random content for no good reason (Reddit).

I went through the entire process interviewing for a job only to find out that they had to cancel the position entirely two weeks ago. Biden's economy is crashing.

5
bejeavis 5 points ago +5 / -0

Happened to me this month actually. I had an offer I lined up back in April pulled this month just 2 weeks before I was supposed to start. Had ink on paper offer letter and everything. Left my last job too. And out of nowhere- Poof. An emailed retraction and then the company completely ghosts me. Luckily we hadn't relocated yet or we'd be triple screwed. But hey no mean tweets guys.

19
TangerineShine 19 points ago +19 / -0

I don’t believe it. I’ll bet no one even knows the woman they allegedly interviewed. I’m starting to believe the recent “market crash” was heavily influenced by hedge funds and the media conglomerates in their portfolios.

Something is off. I don’t know what it is, but something is not right here. Wall Street and the Fed will do everything they can to stop this. Wall Street nor the Fed can afford a collapse at this moment. They’re vulnerable.

I’m no market expert. I believe the market is volatile but something is missing here. A media complicit in hiding a stolen election would surely hide a bad economy. But they aren’t, they are very forthcoming with this information.

10
novaks47 10 points ago +10 / -0

I agree, something is off. All year I've been hearing all about so many job openings, and that companies were desperate to hire. Yet in my area, there are indeed loads of job openings/postings, yet nobody seems to interested in actually filling those positions. 90% of them have remained open for at least six months, and these are the type of roles that use to be filled within a month or so of posting. Now we hear about layoffs and cancelled hiring? Whatever is going on, nearly every company seems to be in on it, but I'm not sure what "it" is exactly. Some sort of strategy I'd guess, perhaps they want H1B wankers from top to bottom now.

15
Viewer01 15 points ago +15 / -0

Basically they’re not hiring white males and sit around waiting for non existent diverse hires to show up.

Some companies are targeting like 20-50% blacks, which is disproportionate to the national average. So job posts stay up for weeks and months as all the qualified white guys get passed over.

What’s even more hilarious is men got displaced by minorities and women and they have obscene attrition rates. Like 40% compared to like 10-15% men. So they hire these poorly trained women and minorities, only for them to quit within three years.

1
ronnietherocket 1 point ago +1 / -0

My company currently has a shit ton of job postings (probably 2 employees for every opening listed), but put in a no hire order a few months ago. Not sure what the strategy is here. But it had to do with we had a hiring spurt and got more people in than we can actually carry.

The "Draft Our Daughters" campaign in the First Meme War. 🤣

Hell yeah - hitting r/all and driving them crazy was amazing.

2
AbrahamLincoln 2 points ago +2 / -0

And then they tried to change the code so we couldn't make /all, but fucked up because they are retards and then we had ALL the posts on /all. Good times.

7
Prussian_Pepe 7 points ago +7 / -0

More than half of the users on here now are < a year old (as are a group of late night mods). And a good portion of the posters are < a month. They have other similarities too "vote harder" "winning!!!" "bAsEd" ect.

6
EagleI 6 points ago +6 / -0

Noticed the same with the late night mods. And some of the oldest ones have gone MIA.
I think there is clear and present fraud, but I think short of physical conflict, involvement in local government is one of the best things we can do.

5
Cantshadowbanthemall 5 points ago +5 / -0

There are upvoting bot farms pushing more pacification bullshit. Meaningful posts are getting buried

Archive.is stopped working for me

It's archive.ph now and I literally just used it on this article.

They rotate domains occasionally.

It makes Biden look bad and it's from their own propaganda news site.

Why didn't Joynese, the mother of a 4yo, rely on her husband's income while she looked for a new job?

Whee. Welcome to The Great Depression 2: Electric Boogaloo.

5
TrumpAndGodWin 5 points ago +5 / -0

And a lot more people were self-sufficient back then.

4
RexCollumSilvarum 4 points ago +5 / -1

It was a lot easier to be self-sufficient back then.

Welcome to the Biden recession.

10
honkdeezee 10 points ago +10 / -0

I was hired on twice at the same place but never given a start date.

5
ReaganOne 5 points ago +5 / -0

Same thing happened to me years ago...the "funny" thing was during the second time while quibbling over a lousy $1 difference in my hourly salary, my security clearance had expired, and then they withdrew consideration unless I paid for 100% of a new investigation. Glad I didn't end up with them.

1
honkdeezee 1 point ago +1 / -0

I didn't need to negotiate an hourly wage/salary because it was a commission job.

3
covfefe-time 3 points ago +3 / -0

Is this where they say 'See, look at all these jobs created under Xiden,' while they quietly ignore the facts?

Hasn't yet stopped them before.

9
RogueLeaderX 9 points ago +10 / -1

That Biden "Prosperity"!

😑😑😑

7
King5150 7 points ago +7 / -0

according to Biden any talk of anything less prosperous times and roaring economy are outright lies and disinformation. 🤡🌎

1
RyanUpCreek 1 point ago +2 / -1

This must be the Change part of Hope and Change. 16 cents for some hot dogs the first year and 18 cents for gas this year. Do I get 20 cents when milk is $12 a gallon next year and 22 cents when rice is $50 a pound in the last year of this golden prosperity?

2
covfefe-time 2 points ago +2 / -0

Used to make fun of North Korea for their level of gaslighting and propaganda.

Starting to give them a serious run for the money when emporer Xiden can do no wrong.

We might even have surpassed to be honest.

Enemies of the People. Don't ever forget.

10
RyanUpCreek 10 points ago +11 / -1

7
cicero21 7 points ago +7 / -0

Unless there is a massive change in November, best case scenario is massive layoffs and inflation.

2
Publius_1776 2 points ago +2 / -0

Inflation forever is basically keyed into the system by the demographics of the entire planet until there’s another a baby boom in a hundred years after all the communists are ended for destroying civilization.

6
shaven_llama 6 points ago +6 / -0

Knowing employers are wont to do this sort of thing these days, giving two weeks notice at your current job may not be in your best interest. Take your remaining PTO starting the day you start your new job. At the end of said PTO, send your I quit / goodbye email :)

6
Newuser99 6 points ago +7 / -1

Not for the software industry. It's booming as ever

5
TrumpIsMyyPresident 5 points ago +5 / -0

Facts. My employer has job openings that exceed 27% of their current size and we're not talking 20-30 openings. Hundreds of IT openings and it gets updated/added to weekly or as we get new contracts.

2
shaven_llama 2 points ago +2 / -0

Senior engineers in particular are thin on the ground.

Learn to code?

15
kent [S] 15 points ago +15 / -0

Have mass deportations of HB-1 Visas back to India. That guy who took over as CEO of Twitter should be at the top of the list. Then Americans who learn to code can get a good paying job.

8
Rommsey 8 points ago +8 / -0

Bingo. This limitless BS on H1-B visas by origin is insane. Fucking Ted Cruz and Trump both pushed for it.

3
al-phabitz89 3 points ago +3 / -0

This x 1000%. This is all I want to hear about. I am a naturalised immigrant and I live in triangle area of NC. It’s been completely taken over by south Asian tech workers, it’s asinine that a country will do this to itself. It is societal suicide.

5
Trumpwon556 5 points ago +6 / -1

It's her own fault she's a broke single mom.

4
MySidesGoUp 4 points ago +4 / -0

Ah, the trusty HR systems aren’t catching these “ghost jobs”??

😅😅

9
kent [S] 9 points ago +9 / -0

HR managers make the lamest list of requirements too. They'll require you learn things that don't even exist yet.

4
MySidesGoUp 4 points ago +4 / -0

“It’s all about PROCESS!…”

🤦‍♂️🔫

4
JZSquared 4 points ago +4 / -0

Most of these jobs are pointless and can easily be replaced with an algorithm or simplistic AI. The first jobs to be cut are the least valuable to a company.

We haven't seen the layoffs that bad yet

2
kent [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah it's just starting but they did increase them in a sneaky way by rescinding the jobs before they could be recorded as job losses so the Biden admin can lie about the economy longer.

1
FauciOuchi 1 point ago +2 / -1

Rescinding is such a media move without any hurt to the company. It’s something Biden wants then doing

3
CMDRConanAAnderson 3 points ago +3 / -0

WTF kind of name is Joynese? It's like someone tried to spell Mayonnaise and failed.

2
kent [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Maybe her parents were thinking wanting to name name her "Chinese" but wanted to put a joyful spin on it and called her "Joynese"

1
Ch3f4554551n 1 point ago +1 / -0

ALL you need is the name to make the right (or wrong) hire.

2
ConservativeWeeb 2 points ago +2 / -0

Getting budget cut before starting is a new one for me. Never heard of incompetence that high.

2

Recession coming in hot!

2
Mungo 2 points ago +2 / -0

Actions have consequences.

2
IWI9000 2 points ago +2 / -0

It’s coming...and just wait, wages won't stay with inflation. As consumer demand falls, cause your dollar buys 30% less, companies will continue to cut back. Combined that with core cost of inputs, and depression is all but certain.

We have had this long time coming, you cannot keep an economy going in perpetuity with quantitative easing, given the abject fiscal irresponsibility of the last couple decades.

Best case example we have to lean on is Japan in the late 80s, but who knows what will happen.

2
TravlingThr0ugh 2 points ago +2 / -0

I posted this days ago. I was told this didn’t matter because the job offers were given to minorities to meet quota. Or, it wasn’t true. Everything is A OKAY!

1
kent [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

They will hire foreigners if possible because the lefties like slavery. It gives them a great sense of grandiosity to have the power to deport someone by firing them from a job for not being their slave.

1
