I worked as a contractor for many years in a Department of Health and Human Services agency starting in the early 1990s.

They were smart, dependable, and worked hard. They lived like conservatives. They loved their children, prioritized their education, and raised them right.

They were all democrats. They idolized those fucking scumbag Clintons. They sided with race hustlers and union thugs. They voted for every whacked-out scheme that anyone familiar with the concept of moral hazard knew would destroy civilization.

At the time, I thought they were simply misguided. Today, knowing that nearly every one of them maintained that political lean and most went hard leftard with their party, I believe that they deliberately act to create shit situations for society as a whole because they know that they and theirs can rise above it by following conservative principles in their own lives.

The left deserve eradication for their wickedness.

Escatology is hard. Suffice to say: the 1st century Christians understood what John was talking about, and were encouraged. That's enough to conclude it wasn't talking about the US.

-1
ProtestantPatriot -1 points ago +3 / -4

Says who? You? Are we not in HIS story? What is prophecy other than the unfolding of YHWH’s decree? Do you understand?

-1
barwhack -1 points ago +1 / -2

If God does not write "uncoverings" (apocalypses) to uncover and instruct, and does not write prophecy to clarify and comfort, then God is a liar.

So yeah, I (and Paul and God himself) assert that God is not lying, doesn't lie, and indeed CANNOT lie. John is probably on board with this too; but you dig for that one. And you do you.

-2
ProtestantPatriot -2 points ago +3 / -5

Lol an irrational man I see, have fun with your pagan Christmas worship

The vast majority of Indians died from European diseases. It was before the time of germ theory, so there wasn’t really much that could have been done. Most of these diseases were born of keeping livestock, and, unfortunately, the Indians never reached that stage of civilization. If it had been the other way around, all of the white people would have died. That’s just the way that life goes.

2
Dessert_Eagle 2 points ago +2 / -0

Not all Natives were savages, moat were just close family-bound people of tradition that enjoyed the fruits of their land. Not all of the white Americans were evil or greedy. Most were ambitious and honest hard working men who wanted to freely worship God in their manner and to give their families a fruitful future.

White Americans were simply more different looking tribes with far different customs. Some Indigenous tribes even preferred working with the white Americans; the Crow and Navajo come to mind, and the latter, IIRC, got a real good and sizeable piece of land. It wasn't as black-and-white as "cowboys and Indians."

I'm so confused. I was told that black slaves built America?

37
Liberals_R_Idiots 37 points ago +37 / -0

They didn't build shit.

12
jughaid 12 points ago +12 / -0

This goes back to the argument about "building." Eastern American knowledge and finance conceived, planned, and managed the transcontinental railroads. A lot, particularly out west, of the physical labor was chinese.

Does that mean the chinese built it? Not really. It would have gotten done had the chinese not been there -- probably at a higher cost and a bit later, but done just the same. It's all semantics, but to say the chinese built it is too simple. That's a Marx Labor Theory of Value kind of thing.

11
covok48 11 points ago +11 / -0

Incorrect, Chinese built the Sierra Nevada portion of the railroads. Civil War vets & Irishmen built everything heading towards California.

0
BigIronBigIron 0 points ago +7 / -7

122 black slaves were used to build The White House. "Negro Dick" helped build the Capitol, yes really, that was his name.

Manifest Destiny is a great concept since it pushes our values based on freedom beyond what were this country's borders. I do think that it's an unfortunate relationship the US government has had with Native American nations, and a reasonable thing to do would be to abolish reservations. However, so much money is caught up in it, so the people tied to that land will continue to be exploited by the few.

18
publius1788 18 points ago +19 / -1

The only thing I regret is how we treated the civilized tribes, and how we broke treaty obligations with other tribes. That was a little bush league. The rest was just warfare.

8
Carolinareaper 8 points ago +10 / -2

They would scalp women and children

Enslave them

Jesus I hate this portrait of the evil whites killing innocents

6
Toohershat 6 points ago +6 / -0

The entire thing is a shit show since deals with tribes were negotiated with a small clique of agents who enriched themselves. Once they were granted US citizenship all special privileges should have been removed, but now many descendants of natives still live on the reservations with hope placed in charity and they're missing out on self reliance and making lives for themselves.

I remember going to public school in California and learning about U.S. history and Manifest Destiny in the 2nd grade - by a black female teacher no less - and it was not demonized in the slightest; merely taught as one of the motivating factors of western expansion. The instruction actually helped me garner an interest in history in general, and more importantly, an appreciation for our country's founding. Of course, this was 30 years ago.

8
RyanT282 8 points ago +8 / -0

Apparently some were completely nude. Here in Florida, I've seen portraits at museums and state parks of Seminole female leaders sitting on their chairs meeting with explorers, naked except for some streaks of war paint here and there. The descriptions come from the explorers themselves.

5
DonttrustChina 5 points ago +5 / -0

Manifest Destiny was a good idea. We did spread civilization. The natives chose not to live in it and picked the reservations instead, clearly that was a poor decision.

Sucks for them that they lost everything. But they had every advantage in our wars with them. They had the numbers, they knew the terrain, they had a 15,000 year head start on empire building there. We'd even sold them guns centuries before, plenty of time to reverse engineer the technology and start cranking out their own.

But they were in the stone age, still.

It wasn't genetics and it wasn't environment. They're the same stock of people as the Chinese, in a swath of land about the same size with very similar geographical and climatological conditions. And the Chinese build a golden empire that endured 5000 years before finally falling to communism.

The problem was culture. Their culture emphasized the wrong values to be successful, and they failed as a people. The superior society won. As it should be.

And we should learn from what happened to them, because it's now happening to us, and if we don't correct course, 200 years from now our descendants will be looking back at similar art depicting our conquest, and have no one to blame but us.

0
IM_A_TRIVIAL_PURSUIT 0 points ago +1 / -1

IT'S MORE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT. SAME WITH THE AFRICANS - WHEN THE LAND YOU'RE LIVING IN IS ABUNDANT WITH FOOD ETC, THERE'S LITTLE PUSH TO EVOLVE BEYOND 'HUNTER GATHERER' LEVELS OF TECHNOLOGY, AND THEREFORE LITTLE UPWARD PRESSURE ON INTELLIGENCE, INTELLECT AND COLLECTIVE KNOWLEDGE.

WHEELS AND WRITING... IF YOU HAVEN'T DEVELOPED WHEELS AND WRITING / READING, WELL .... YOU AIN'T UP FOR SHIT.

1
DonttrustChina 1 point ago +1 / -0

I don't think it was environment in this case.

This is a climate map of the US.

And this is one of China.

As you can see they're quite similar. You've got a "hot summers, cold winters" area in the northeast, a warm, humid area in the southeast that makes for perfect farmland, then towards the west it's kinda crappy and mostly deserts and freezing mountains.

Yet the Chinese built one of history's greatest and longest enduring empires, charted the Pacific, built the silk road, invented gunpowder, etc.

And the Native Americans, who are genetically the same people, did FUCKING NOTHING. Cultural values are the only explicable difference.

0
IM_A_TRIVIAL_PURSUIT 0 points ago +1 / -1

CLIMATE HAS AN EFFECT, I WAS EMPHASIZING MORE THE ABUNDANCE OF FOOD AS A NEGATIVE DRIVER FOR EVOLVING INTELLIGENCE ETC. AFRICANS AND NATIVE AMERICANS PRETTY MUCH HAD BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND DINNER STROLLING PAST THE OPENING OF THEIR HUTS/TENT.

THEY BOTH DEVELOPED RUDIMENTARY CROPPING PRACTICES BUT EVEN THIS WAS NOT NECESSARY FOR 'SURVIVAL'.

ALL THE STUFF WE SEE ABOUT AFRICAN FAMINES ARE MORE RELATED TO ARTIFICIALLY INDUCED POPULATION GROWTH IN ARID AREAS THAT CAN'T SUPPORT POPULATIONS DOUBLING DUE TO CHARITIES AND WESTERN MEDICINE.

CHINA'S STAPLE CROP BEING RICE IS A WHOLE PLANNING AND ENGINEERING THING IN AND OF ITSELF.

BUT YEAH, BASICALLY NO WHEEL, READING OR WRITING IS JUST LAZY.

Why is her name Columbia though?

7
RobinNet 7 points ago +7 / -0

A lady, a miss, or an outright goddess, Columbia has existed as the literal personification of the United States since before its creation as a country. Created at the end of the 17th century, Miss Columbia was first just a metaphor for the European colonies in the New World. However, the name and the image not only stuck but were embraced as the perfect representation of the New World’s strife for freedom and progress. Columbia doesn’t have a set-in-stone “look” but she’s almost always a young-to-middle-aged woman with fair skin and – more often than not – blonde hair. Columbia’s wardrobe varies greatly but it always has some patriotic notes to it. She is sometimes depicted wearing the American flag as a dress to show her patriotism. At other times, she wears completely white robes, reminiscent of those worn in ancient Rome. She sometimes wears the Roman Phrygian cap, as it too is a classic symbol of freedom dating all the way back to the times of ancient Rome. As for Columbia’s name, it should come as no surprise that it’s based on the name of Christopher Columbus, the Genoan explorer who is credited for discovering the New World. However, while Columbia has most prominently been used in the US, Canada too has used the symbol for centuries. The idea of Columbia was first thought of by Chief Justice Samuel Sewall in 1697. Sewall was from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He didn’t invent the name as a part of his legal work, however, but as a poet. Sewall wrote a poem in which he called the American colonies “Columbia” after the name of Christopher Columbus. While she’s often called “Goddess Columbia”, Columbia doesn’t belong to any religion. No one really claims that she has godhood either – she is just a symbol of the New World and the European colonies in it. That being said, while it may tickle some of the more ardent Christian believers the wrong way, Columbia continues to be called a “goddess” to this day. In a sense, she can be called a non-theistic deity. Miss Columbia isn’t the first female symbol used to represent the European colonies in the New World. Before her inception at the end of the 17th century, the image of the Indian Queen that was most commonly used. Depicted as mature and attractive, the Indian Queen was similar to feminine images the Europeans used for other colonized continents such as Africa. Over time, the Indian Queen became younger and younger, until she “transformed” into the Indian Princess image. People appreciated the younger-looking design of the image as it was more in line with the New World’s infancy. Once the Columbia symbol was invented, however, the Indian Princess started falling out of favor.
