We are being asked to conserve energy next week in Texas. The wind farms are not producing, only 20%.

It is a win win for democrats. Beto needs power outages in Texas to gain on Abbott and more bad news in the gun department if you know what I mean.

37
maga_gal 37 points ago +40 / -3

Power outages due to wind not performing doesn't exactly help Beto... plus, Beto has no chance.

33
jdog 33 points ago +35 / -2

It does. Beto is running on two things, gun violence and the power grid not performing. The power grid not performing is an Abbot failure because he let Ercot buy into the green stuff. Which Beto will just do more of and make the problem even worse. Abbot sucks but he isn't as bad as Beto will be.

No way to store it. They rely on wind power for overnights and cloudy days. Green energy is a train wreck.

19
Donaldsweiner 19 points ago +19 / -0

Let’s not even get into the disposal of solar panels and wind turbines 😂 they take up a lot of room in the landfill and solar panels leak lead and cadmium into the ground water. So much for “green” !!!!

5
King5150 5 points ago +5 / -0

Green Energy can not supply steady baseload, without it you can't run a state...period. Renewable are a one way ticket to the pre-industrial era.

2
cyberrigger 2 points ago +2 / -0

For AC use a big ass tank of cold water.

2
AlohaSnackbar 2 points ago +4 / -2

pumped storage hydropower. 80% efficient. Fairly quick to build out too, but it is texas, and water does have a habit of turning to steam there.

-1
pede-o-saurus -1 points ago +3 / -4

What they could do is spin down generators during the day if they had high solar production and spin them up at night, so basically redirect the thermoelectric plants to fill the overnight storage gap. Net-metering-to-usage-only policy disincentivizes homeowners from building bigger solar systems because they can't make money selling the power to the grid. It's not really green energy per se, there's some other general stupidity.

7
OPsMom 7 points ago +7 / -0

During the day is when the grid is at max capacity. The problem with solar is that it simply does not produce enough.

9
Annoyedwiththedevoid 9 points ago +10 / -1

How many kilowatt hours does a typical house use in Texas during the day? I’ve said this here before, with a solar system, the panels are the CHEAP part. The batteries are the expensive part. A house with 4,000 watts of solar (Call it 1500 watts for air conditioning, 300 for lights, 500 for tv / computer, 1000 for a stove, and 700 extra taking into account Cloudy days) (surprisingly modern solar cells can output almost as much on a cloudy day as a bright one) and just a couple batteries for a buffer could easily be done for 4,000 (I know, I know, we don’t all have 4K$ just laying around) and be self sufficient for during the day.

All that being said, this is something we should NOT have to fucking do! For fucks sake, 2 years ago we had energy up to our ears, and now because of leftist assholes that hate America, we can barely keep the lights on

5
Oppenheimer_DOW 5 points ago +5 / -0

By besign. I got into solar/alternative at the beginning hoping it was real and wanting to be part of the transition. That won't happen. Get ready for a major collapse. Grow your own food or you won't eat 2023-2024

0
pede-o-saurus 0 points ago +2 / -2

Sort of; solar produces fine during the day, but 1. there isn't enough installed (solar is only 3% of Texas' grid), and 2. it obviously doesn't generate at night so you need an overnight solution. A typical Texas house uses about 105 kWH on a hot day and a pallet of solar panels (27) will under realistic conditions produce about that. Solar panels have very high output now; a good one is .4 kwH. It's the cheapest generation solution right now, which is actually part of the problem because utilities don't want to invest in keeping up their thermal plants because they know they don't work economically going forward.

4
SouthernParadise 4 points ago +4 / -0

They tried this in Hawaii during the solar panel craze of 2000-2010’s. They wound up dumping the excess into the ground because it couldn’t be metered. All of the people, promised that the panels would “pay for themselves”, were left holding the bag when the electric company couldn’t buy back the excess. On a cloudy day you’d get tepid water out of the hot tap. It drove me crazy. And now, all of those roofs are needing repairs. Wonder if they’ll stick those panels back up there knowing what they know now.

-1
pede-o-saurus -1 points ago +2 / -3

So here's the thing: solar cost per unit of productivity is on an exponential decline, which most people really cannot wrap their head around. A solar panel from the 2000's is as good as a computer from the 2000's. Does that give some insight?

CommunismIsForFags 0 points ago +6 / -6

Are you fucking stupid?

The energy producers that can't keep up at night when everyone is asleep and usage is at a minimum will magically keep up during the day.

You're a moron. Should feel like a moron. And deserve the repercussions of the green energy disaster that morons like you lined up for faster than 4 faggots trying to sit on an upside down barstool.

But the rest of us dont.

8
schiff_for_brains 8 points ago +8 / -0

The solution to a shortage of green power is more poorly producing green power systems. Isn’t this obvious?

6
Tallsie 6 points ago +6 / -0

He didn’t let them buy into the green stuff. All companies if they want a good rate on a loan must buy into the green stuff or else.

5
Tejas_Pepe 5 points ago +7 / -2

The power grid not performing is an Abbot failure because he let Ercot buy into the green stuff.

You lying sack of shit Beto shill. Abbott got famous suing Obama's EPA as they forced Texas to shut down Coal and LG plants and go to Wind and Solar power. It wasn't Abbott's idea to do this shit.

7
hey_spike 7 points ago +7 / -0

Relying on unreliable sources of green energy is allowing nature to have dominion over us. In a Biblical world view, man is to subdue the earth and be a steward of it.

3

thisisatestof2 10 points ago +10 / -0

I believe I read recently that all the wind turbines were only performing on average, at about 8%. It’s almost like for a functional economy/electric grid do you need reliable power that can produce its rated output 24/7/365 practically no matter the weather conditions.

In the people Republic of Connecticut, it is basically a little known fact, that approximately 50% of our electrical generation/power needs for the state come from the two nuclear reactors we have. The rest is mostly natural gas with a mix of wind and solar coming in third.

If we had smart leader ship, we would absolutely be building new nuclear power plants in every state they can possibly be in to at least produce 75% of that state energy needs.

4
databasedcentral 4 points ago +4 / -0

It’s like, maybe at some point the technology will develop to be sustainable. But they’re forcing the technology, which is killing the development of it, so it’ll never be producing as well as it could. And we suffer. This is what happens when you pick and choose who wins and not a free market. Done deliberately

2
SmokeyAF 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yep, need more nukes for reliability, but then it'd be harder to pay off the Chicoms and the leftists grifters in the green energy (wind/solar have a place in the mix, but not the way we're forced).

The real red pill is when the power gets shut off and you have the majority of the population cut off from their main source of their addiction. Leftists who isolate themselves all day long will be forced to talk to their neighbors, their family, they will HAVE to get their news from them or from some shitty ham radio another person owns. They won't be mind controlled by the brainwashing media and will have to form their own thoughts and opinions. it will be difficult but we can overcome.

If you're wondering why the sudden power gap, you have your answer. The dumb part is I actually have to explain this to people and they'll be shocked that it's even a possibility. Look at which states and cities are suffering from power grid issues...

Tell the EPA to eat shit and rev up the coal plants ffs!

12
AerialRush 12 points ago +12 / -0

B-but then the vegetation will grow larger from more CO2 being available to them. Oh noooo....

6
BoughtByBloomberg2 6 points ago +6 / -0

The funniest shit I ever saw was "CO2 generators".

Took a tour through a greenhouse once and they were showing them off so proudly. These are GIANT machines that react bicarbonate with water which gives off CO2 gas and then mist it out over the plants.

I asked why they were doing this when there's too much CO2 in the air just to mess with em. Got the "I'm not a climatologist" answer.

5
WarViper1337 5 points ago +6 / -1

I used to dabble in planted aquariums. Still have one but it's a basic set up now that doesn't need a lot of maintenance. You can get really really really high tech with some aquariums set ups. CO2 injection, liquid fertilizers, high tech lighting, perfectly balanced water parameters, PAR meters, pumps and filtration etc. With submersed plants in such a high tech setting you can actually see them bubbling off oxygen from their leaves because they are growing so aggressively due to the Co2 injection. Some of those guys have time lapses of their aquariums showing how explosively fast some plants will grow under those conditions.

4
__bryan 4 points ago +4 / -0

The earth will never be greener than it is right now. And the reason it will decline is because these idiots are taking all the CO2 out of the air.

4
AerialRush 4 points ago +4 / -0

The globalists unironically want a world like that shitty movie, "snowpiercer". That's their masturbatory fantasy. To completely rid the world of gaseous CO2 and destroy virtually all plant life, cause a mass starvation event and bring the earth into a permanent ice age so they can dine on the drastically decreased production and stock of the best foods and enjoy luxuries while oppressing the remaining surviving population and force them to eat bugs and recycled human waste.

It's not enough to enjoy all these pleasantries if half the world (the middle class) gets to enjoy them from time to time as well. They must be the only ones with the privilege, so they can clink wine glasses together over their grand delusions of superiority.

7
ihatedemocrats 7 points ago +7 / -0

Exactly why they want you to eat bugs. They don’t give a fuck about the planet. They want to humiliate you and break your will.

2
ihatedemocrats 2 points ago +2 / -0

Only because them saying "we need to reduce oxygen" would be unpopular. Saying "carbon" makes people feel good but the outcome is the same.

11
DroolBuckets 11 points ago +11 / -0

This whole crap is manufactured.

6

7
pede-o-saurus 7 points ago +7 / -0

So the funny thing is lots of Texans are looking at solar for power continuity. But Texas utilities don't pay you to generate power beyond your need - they net meter up to the amount you use, then stop so any power over that you produce is given to the grid for free. This incentivizes people to not put in as big a system as they otherwise would, so the utilities are actually disincentivizing people building distributed power plants for them on their own dime. This is some business genius right there...

2
AerialRush 2 points ago +2 / -0

In an ideal world, wind turbines would be tossed in the trash bins to be recycled for scrap, full solar panels would be on people's roofing and they would be compensated for additional power lent to neighboring houses, and cutting-edge nuclear reactors would be popping up to round off completely powering states, with additional production output capacity left in reserve for emergencies.

4
FauciOuchi 4 points ago +4 / -0

In diesel world we’d have 300 more nuclear power plants and basically free electricity because we’re the most power and highest tech nation ever to exist

But no, we get black outs instead

-1
pede-o-saurus -1 points ago +2 / -3

Wind is fine, we install it primarily on farms in West Texas which is flat so it works well, it's 21% of Texas installed capacity, the numbers pencil out. It's fine for what it is. But overall you're right.

4
AerialRush 4 points ago +4 / -0

I just find them mostly inefficient, incredibly ugly and a more destructive force to natural fauna than I do other energy production sources (barring oil spill disasters which ideally wouldn't happen). So that's just my personal beef.

2
fauxgnaws 2 points ago +2 / -0

Net Metering means they pay you what you would pay, which is well over double what it's actually worth. Power company is paying you their cost to build and maintain the grid, so are getting doubly screwed by it.

If you're getting paid more than wholesale price of like 5 cents/kWh then you're a parasite feeding off socialism.

2
backwoods-engineer 2 points ago +2 / -0

I would NEVER install grid tied solar at my property. You can't even run that when the grid is shut down, plus it has very little or no storage capacity. I will stick with my separate off-grid solar power system, thank you.

2
pede-o-saurus 2 points ago +2 / -0

You can put in a disconnector switch to untie it from the grid and run separately off-grid during a power outage, which gives some advantages of both. Full battery back-up is the best but it's very expensive and most people in a high-energy consumption environment can't get there in one step.

Has Texas (and other GOP states) not sued the commie Fed open border policy for environmental impact violations? All these millions of illegal immigrants are drawing upon the constrained power grids (as a Pede wrote already), not to mention destroying eco habitats along the border.

6
Lurking-My-Life-Away 6 points ago +6 / -0

I work at a power plant in Texas. It's mostly true, beyond the fear mongering in the news article. We're designed to run all the time anyways so it isn't really a big deal.

There's a "hands off" order right now. No maintenance unless it's absolutely necessary. We had a near shutdown last week because of a pressure transmitter.

The issue isn't that we might shut down. The issue is that the power grid has been under attack by democrats for so long that we can't seem to build and operate enough base load power to supply the demand. We need more base load power and not this green bullshit. So if the power plant trips for whatever reason there's nothing there to pick up the slack.

Did you know that nuclear isn't supposed to load follow? It's really hard on the equipment. However, when winds were really high this spring they had the balls to call the nuclear plant and tell them they had to load follow. Imagine the mentally ill nuts that takes. But here we are, lowering power on a nuke plant (which is fucking crazy expensive) to sell wind power. It's absurd.

6
Baddudecornpop87 6 points ago +6 / -0

You can't even run a generator because gas is $5+ a gallon and EV chargers take a metric fuck ton of power so that generator might run for an hour on a full tank which will net a %20 battery charge.

6
caw_86 6 points ago +6 / -0

Just another bullshit fear article, power plants even old ones are designed to run non stop for long periods. Delaying PM is a pretty common practice for operational concerns

3
Cyer6 3 points ago +3 / -0

Plus the temps aren't supposed to be anything like they were last week or even just a few days ago. I'm in central TX and the wind is blowing again and temps are comfortable (for TX). It's not supposed to change that much.

Texas fucked up by abandoning new coal and nuclear plants in favor of a shitty wind gimmick. Now they can't run their ACs. Wanna fix it? Tear down the windmills. Build coal or nuclear plants. LIMIT the amount of Californians allowed to move there each year.

That way you don't have shitstain cali leeches breaking your grid.

3
FreeNow 3 points ago +3 / -0

You are always supposed to have reserve power. When we were running mostly coal that was around 15% or at least enough power for the largest unit to go offline. Now you should have backups for all of you wind plus that..at night.

3

This is a story I'd expect out of California, not Texas. And years ago people bragged about how Texas could leave the us because the power grid was separate

3

Nobody is blind to Abbott, but the primary is over, so either you are a pussy whiner or a shill. I'm betting shill, ya'll have been working it hard lately. Beto sucks and he's gonna lose. Go tell your boss you tried but no dice.

Just park stacey abrams in that hot sun and collect her sweat for use as electrolyte in a salt battery. Her ass end can generate wind energy (with collectable bonus methane) and her body heat is geo-thermal. Just gotta run a train up to tooth gap and deposit the fuel. Preferably Popeyes but certainly no vegetables (fried potatoes acceptable).

But what about the smell?

There is always a price. The methane collection certainly helps. The B.O. stink will be that price, like living near a paper mill.

Stock up on sprockets and bike chains. You'll need them to convert your 10 speed to a 2 stroke. It's gonna be bad. Even worse in winter when the heating oil and diesel run out as we are a net 0 gain on that front.

And yet you all just voted for the fucking moron who helped put all of this into place.

Abbott makes two cute press conferences a year and is going to single handedly deliver Texas to the Democrats before he’s done in a few more terms.

Yeah, there is gonna be a heat wave. You better turn off your air conditioners.

If I turn on the heat am I helping or hurting?

Never gone for max temp on the ecobee, wonder what it’ll let me set it to!

Why would that happen this year? What about the past years? What's different? Coincidence it would breakdown now ... why? 🤔
