As a child of the 80's I feel we had a good lifestyle balance incorporating TV and video games. Maybe it was different in the USA but in Australia we didn't get cable tv until about 97 (so there was really nothing on tv). Imo it was social media and smart phones circa 2007-2013 that really fucked things up.

Easy on the video games. In my opinion, video games are totally fine if you have a job and take care of all family obligations prior

gotta go back to before ww2. the world lost all its strongest men after that debacle. almost like it was planned, weeding out the strong and weak men through war. even the winners of that war went into a sharp decline in masculinity. look at the losers now, germany cucked, Japan pillow fuckers, britbongs love muslims, france got a groomed PM, italy is basically china, etc etc etc.

id rather take the good with the bad than forgo both. it's worth fighting for, it just takes effort.

11
Judicator 11 points ago +11 / -0

Agree fully. The other mentality is toxic and destructive, because humans are imperfect and fallible; technology doesn't make us that way, it just amplifies our current state. Getting rid of technology similarly won't stop our imperfections and failings, it will just mask them a little bit.

Kind of like with justice, too. I'd rather ten guilty men go free to save one than punish the innocent. Obviously there is a real tangible practical level of "accuracy" and you don't want everyone to go free, but the point stands.

Or even Biblically; God was willing to spare entire cities from annihilation for mere tens of souls. To punish the good with the bad then would seem a greater injustice than the bad walking free (though it's often more complicated than just saying that in practice).

What's more is the idea of reverting these technologies is just simply impractical.

4
pikX 4 points ago +4 / -0

it's like arguing about gun rights. they're going to exist regardless of gun laws. so use the guns for good rather than try to ban them. i know i have inherent bias having grown up in the 2000s and 2010s, but i would never trade the things a post-internet world has given to me. and i appreciate all the work that went into making it. we need stronger people that can make use of the wonderful tools at our disposal, not a weaker world because people can't handle it. one day, the people you can control won't be under your control (and i don't mean to make parenting sound bad when i say that). you need those people to be strong enough to take care of themselves. if anything, those of us that know the dangers of the internet have an inherent advantage over our parents. it's just that too many failed from not understanding it to put us where we are now. and of course many continue to let their 6 year olds wander the internet unwatched. im not saying active parenting will fix everything but it will help with a lot of things.

Dr. Ted repeatedly discusses this in his epic "Industrial Society and It's Future". I'll pull some prescient quotes, remember this was written in 1995.

THE ‘BAD’ PARTS OF TECHNOLOGY CANNOT BE SEPARATED FROM THE 'GOOD' PARTS

  1. A further reason why industrial society cannot be reformed in favor of freedom is that modern technology is a unified system in which all parts are dependent on one another. You can’t get rid of the “bad” parts of technology and retain only the “good” parts. Take modern medicine, for example. Progress in medical science depends on progress in chemistry, physics, biology, computer science and other fields. Advanced medical treatments require expensive, high-tech equipment that can be made available only by a technologically progressive, economically rich society. Clearly you can’t have much progress in medicine without the whole technological system and everything that goes with it.

  2. Even if medical progress could be maintained without the rest of the technological system, it would by itself bring certain evils. Suppose for example that a cure for diabetes is discovered. People with a genetic tendency to diabetes will then be able to survive and reproduce as well as anyone else. Natural selection against genes for diabetes will cease and such genes will spread throughout the population. (This may be occurring to some extent already, since diabetes, while not curable, can be controlled through use of insulin.) The same thing will happen with many other diseases susceptibility to which is affected by genetic degradation of the population. The only solution will be some sort of eugenics program or extensive genetic engineering of human beings, so that man in the future will no longer be a creation of nature, or of chance, or of God (depending on your religious or philosophical opinions), but a manufactured product.

  3. If you think that big government interferes in your life too much NOW, just wait till the government starts regulating the genetic constitution of your children. Such regulation will inevitably follow the introduction of genetic engineering of human beings, because the consequences of unregulated genetic engineering would be disastrous. [19]

  4. The usual response to such concerns is to talk about “medical ethics.” But a code of ethics would not serve to protect freedom in the face of medical progress; it would only make matters worse. A code of ethics applicable to genetic engineering would be in effect a means of regulating the genetic constitution of human beings. Somebody (probably the upper-middle class, mostly) would decide that such and such applications of genetic engineering were “ethical” and others were not, so that in effect they would be imposing their own values on the genetic constitution of the population at large. Even if a code of ethics were chosen on a completely democratic basis, the majority would be imposing their own values on any minorities who might have a different idea of what constituted an “ethical” use of genetic engineering. The only code of ethics that would truly protect freedom would be one that prohibited ANY genetic engineering of human beings, and you can be sure that no such code will ever be applied in a technological society. No code that reduced genetic engineering to a minor role could stand up for long, because the temptation presented by the immense power of biotechnology would be irresistible, especially since to the majority of people many of its applications will seem obviously and unequivocally good (eliminating physical and mental diseases, giving people the abilities they need to get along in today’s world). Inevitably, genetic engineering will be used extensively, but only in ways consistent with the needs of the industrial- technological system. [20]

3
OKRancher 3 points ago +3 / -0

Sometimes. Some of us know other methods of transferring energy as well.

I want to build a cannon with an Estes ignitor and a car battery. I’ll use a couple hundred feet of extension cord.

4
LibtardJesus 4 points ago +5 / -1

I have no idea what they mean. Visible light is EMF. Look up the Electromagnet Spectrum. You can't randomly say EMF. You have to identify the frequencies. Visible light is of a higher frequency than your cell phone. I will make the guess they are referring to EMF between !GHz and Visible light. Dunno. Did they mean Radio too??

1
C0vidiot1984 1 point ago +1 / -0

Band 8 in particular... fuck that frequency

1
OKRancher 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah, it’s a very wide spectrum. Everything from sunlight to microwaves and more.

Even if everything was hardwired, any wire carrying electric current gives off EMF waves. They’re usually radio frequency, and such low power as to be nearly imperceptible, but they’re still there. That’s why nearly every piece of tech you buy has a little legal disclaimer that it meets certain criteria to reduce electromagnetic interference.

2
LibtardJesus 2 points ago +3 / -1

Get rid of X-rays for when you break your bones. Get rid of Nuclear energy. If you look up the electromagnetic spectrum you will find that visible light is on this spectrum. You get rid of EMF and you can't see.

17
elmerecido 17 points ago +18 / -1

Plus “EMF waves” exist in nature. We merely harness their power and encode info in them. EM is not ionizing radiation and as long as you’re not in the near-field of a high power radio antenna, RF is harmless to humans.

5
FlySciFiGuy 5 points ago +5 / -0

Exactly. Electromagnetic waves are not harmful unless they’re ionizing, and only UV, X-Ray, and Gamma waves are ionizing radiation.

2
AussieTrumpFan 2 points ago +2 / -0

The strength of the GPS signal at the receiver is minute, and it takes a lot of DSP to pull it out of the background radiation.

Seriously. EMF is a fair concern, particularly ionising radiation, but people need to actually work out how strong emitters are, what attenuation is, and the effective signal strength flowing past the empty dome parked on their shoulders.

A good way to demonstrate it is to convert the signal to an equivalent strength light globe (incandescent is best), and then work out the range at which you are from it. If you can still see the light from the globe, and it's causing you trouble, then you MIGHT have a case for the EMF you're whining about.

1
FlySciFiGuy 1 point ago +1 / -0

Did you mean to reply to someone else, or to me?

I agree that there should be more public awareness on how EM radiation works, and the properties and intensities of the radiation generated by equipment like cell towers and GPS. I just push back against the people who shriek that 5G is going to kill us all. These people usually demonstrate zero understanding of the subject and go exclusively off of emotion.

1
AussieTrumpFan 1 point ago +1 / -0

In my head it initially meant to supplement your comment, but yeah, it looks like it should have been a reply to someone else. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

I agree with your assessment of the shrieking harpies. They're the sort of people who would have been happy keeping tetraethyl lead in petrol / gasoline if no one had said anything about it.

1
krzyzowiec 1 point ago +1 / -0

Not harmful depends on the situation, doesn’t it? I mean microwaves utilize non-ionizing radiation but that doesn’t mean you’d want to stick your head or hand in a microwave during operation.

Similarly, radiowaves seem safe enough, but take a base station that outputs enough energy and you can easily make yourself sick.

2
FlySciFiGuy 2 points ago +2 / -0

Microwaves are so efficient at heating things because the specific wavelength used matches the length of water molecules (or an integer multiple thereof). Since the water molecules in your food are being oscillated at a resonant frequency, they vibrate with increasing energy, gaining heat which is then distributed to the rest of the food in the microwave. In addition, residential microwaves typically operate with 900-1200 watts of power. For comparison, the average wi fi access point uses 1-2 watts.

In theory you could make a several thousand watt microwave laser that would be harmful to humans (especially the eyes). I should have clarified that most EM emitting equipment commonly in use, like cell service, WiFi, gps, etc., isn’t very harmful to humans. At the very least, those who claim that they’re harmful typically don’t explain why and don’t demonstrate a thorough grasp of the physical properties of EM radiation.

1
krzyzowiec 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah I was just throwing that out there because the scale matters. Typically a normal person won't encounter anything that strong, but an engineer working on a cell tower might, and they take certain precautions for that from my understanding.

1
C0vidiot1984 1 point ago +1 / -0

Well there are definitely thermal effects on tissue from electromagnetic radiation. But that's like sleep on your phone while streaming in HD to get any effects. But the long term heating of brain tissue when holding the phone close could be a thing

3
LibtardJesus 3 points ago +4 / -1

Its still never ionizing. It just has the high power to cook you at close ranges. EMF is ionizing at high frequencies. ie. Gama Waves, X-rays. and ultraviolet. This post is stupid, because you wouldn't be able to fucking see without EMF. Visible light.

1
Mathelm 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah thinking about it, provided "you" aren't standing next to a RF tower for a long time and heating up, there's basically zero risk from Radio Waves.

12
usdodsgssog 12 points ago +13 / -1

You wouldn't have any GPS/Radio/Wifi/Cell Service

What you’re really describing is “minorities” in backwards values and morals.
