While I agree you should be able to own automatics, I do think it's important to recognize that in real life combat situations, the times you would use full automatic is pretty minimal, especially when you're using something around 5.56. Which I think is important to highlight should average citizens ever decide to stand up to the government. Outside 7.62, you really only use it to burst fire, ammo dump, or being an asshole

I was excited about this when I thought someone at the school would be armed. Nope. It’s for cops to use when they show up. You know— IF they show up.

AmericaAllDay 20 points ago +20 / -0

Wow, truly pointless. The teachers need to be allowed to carry.

1

Even the groomers?

3
telan 3 points ago +3 / -0

But that’s retarded. Most, if not all, cops already carry ARs in their cars. Just use the ones you’re already equipped with to stand around holding!

1
FreeUrsulaHaverbeck 1 point ago +1 / -0

It is, indeed, retarded.

2
Shadow3 2 points ago +2 / -0

This is actually more dangerous then since the kids know where the gun is and that it likely isn't being carried ever. Pair this with the vast majority of kids not ever knowing how to safely handle a firearm and I smell a disaster, intentional or otherwise..

2
memechallenger33 2 points ago +2 / -0

It’s a start.

1
1984_is_here 1 point ago +1 / -0

And if they show up, let's hope they don't think the school shooting is a drill and dying kids on the floor bleeding out just have on really good makeup.

Pb82_Awards 30 points ago +30 / -0

But will they mount all of their optics as close to the muzzle as possible??? Lmao

16
brassmule 16 points ago +16 / -0

Seriously. Do you want inaccurate zero on your optics? This is how you get it.

6
WhineTasting 6 points ago +6 / -0

Yep. Anyone proficient with (at least) the ar15 should know this simple necessity.

1
GodHatesBiden 1 point ago +1 / -0

this is fine on a red dot or holographic. moving the dot away from the charging handle limits the % of your vision occluded by the sight body. also, this leaves space for the magnifier if they choose to mount one.

this is the same distance from the eye as the polish army uses on their 10inch beryls.

https://pm1.narvii.com/6923/5a3ea11616edf8c3b14c9569d7b2f71c000407cdr1-1280-720v2_hq.jpg

2
MAGA_Toaster 2 points ago +2 / -0

The real problem in the AR picture is not the eye relief, it's that the sight is mounted to the handguard instead of the receiver. It will not maintain zero there. The polish guy you posted has an AK so it's not apples to apples.

1
GodHatesBiden 1 point ago +1 / -0

I think there are plenty of MK18 Mod 0-2s that have their IR devices on their hand guards which maintain zero.

though you're right I would confirm zero as often as reasonable. and this is all early GWOT advice. monolithic uppers ftw

26

Each school will have one rifle and a set of breaching tools in one safe which only local PD will have access to. A local cop shows up and oopsie, don't have a rifle, don't have breaching tools. No worries that's all been forward deployed. No need to go back out to the car, no need to wait for backup, no need to give up ground, no need to give up the initiative. Keep the momentum, keep your ground. Collect toys, push forward and halt the schenanigas.

2
MarchHare762 2 points ago +2 / -0

Assuming that the cop has the will to actually get the stuff out and DO something.

Not a safe assumption.

4
Jimmyprawns 4 points ago +4 / -0

It's not an end all fix, or even a fix for the overall issue. But from the perspective of local law enforcement, It eliminates excuses and sends a message to the deputies. To an extent it can only be viewed as a fix in terms of letting the deputies know they won't get hugs, kisses and accolades if they hang tight in the parking lot. Forcing a few of them to think about just how serious they are about playing cop.

To be honest, no rifle and no breaching tools isn't an excuse if your johny on the spot, you do something with whatever the fuck you got. Every grownup on scene at uvalde failed on that count and the exceptions who were being held back or straight up restrained... Unforgivable. If you're going to keep anybody from helping or showing you up, you better damn well do something yourself.

There was an episode during the 70s when it was thought a disgruntled kid was going to come and shoot things up at a small town highschool. It was a rural area in which it was common for students to do a bit of bird hunting in the wee hours before school. It was also common for a number of the trucks in the school parking lot to have shotguns on their racks because said kids would come straight to school after shooting a few birds, cleaning them and chucking them into an ice chest in the truck bed.

Volunteers were asked, from last year students over 18 who had their shotguns in their trucks. A handful were posted at school entrances with loaded shotguns for the day. I don't remember but it was likely the football coach who supervised them. Nothing came of the threat and the local media made only a passing reference to what had happened. Not even sure if the cops had even been bothered about it.

All other debates aside. Namely that people should be able to defend themselves without being subsequently crucified in court. It's weak sauce if you have a bunch of full time cops who get paid to LARP with no intention of earning that pay. Letting them know it's a good idea to find other work if you aren't serious about it isn't all bad. Especially in rural areas where there is greater expectation of civilian and LEO cooperation.

Even in old-school pop culture there was an episode in the book, To Kill A Mockingbird. There was a mountain lion roaming main street which had caused a ruckus in the small town. Everyone knew Atticus, (the narrator's father) was the one of if not the best rifle shot in town. He just happened to be there on scene when the local sheriff roled up with a rifle. Dude though nothing of handing the rifle over to Atticus to take the shot. As the fictitious story was written, off hand from a good distance, Atticus dropped the animal with one clean shot after little to no settling in. People in town thought nothing of the whole affair. An issue came up, the local men on the spot handled it. Another reason for wokies to hate that book.

1
sfp6 1 point ago +1 / -0

17
AbrahamLincoln 17 points ago +17 / -0

"I’ve got to put a safe in our schools, and lock that safe up for my deputies to be able to acquire an AR-15"

This is dumb as hell. So IF the cops show up, and IF they decide to enter the building instead of cowering outside and tazing parents, they can navigate all the way through the school to the safe, open it, and get a different gun than the one they showed up with, and have no training time on.

2
PigBenis 2 points ago +3 / -1

Democrat sheriff

1
memechallenger33 1 point ago +1 / -0

Isn’t it for cops who work at the schools? Often the “school resource officer” is just a cop with a cushy gig.

1
Testamernt 1 point ago +1 / -0

That's my thoughts on this. A rifle that you have no time using is a liability.

10
MarchHare762 10 points ago +10 / -0

Without someone on-site who has the skills to make use of the rifle, and much more importantly the WILL to do so, this is as bad as any stupid feel-good/do-nothing bullshit the commiecrats have come up with.

4
Deplora 4 points ago +4 / -0

Not to mention that they would need immediate access to the rifles, which is unlikely since they're going to be securely locked up (and probably unloaded!).

3
MarchHare762 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yep. A firearm in a safe does no good when it's needed. Unless you can unlock that safe instantly, all it does is make sure that the bad guy has yet another advantage.

1
memechallenger33 1 point ago +1 / -0

We don’t know how they will have it locked. Could be finger print for all we know.

2
decafllort 2 points ago +2 / -0

Probably the best idea if implemented properly. Ultimately this is the decision of the local school board and the people who elected them, and we should respect what that electorate wants for their schools.

Personally I'd go for requiring staff to complete a course and carry with double-retention holsters to prevent deranged students from trying to grab the gun and use it on someone.

6
utfanx2 6 points ago +6 / -0

Pretty genius. Don't even need the AR, just announce there's one there. Acts as a strong deterrent for FBI groomed shooters. They wouldn't want to risk a repeat of the Greenwood Mall Shooting where an armed civilian took out their asset in 15 seconds.

2

2
Jayl 2 points ago +2 / -0

This is retarded. Why don't they just grab the AR out of their car when responding to a school shooting? Or are they talking about an off duty cop showing up to the scene.?

2
plasma 2 points ago +2 / -0

Uvalde cops need hand sanitizer and stretchers and that's about it

2
Blue_Falcons_Suck 2 points ago +2 / -0

This is a pathetic "feel good" do nothing band-aid.

"We put an AR-15 in an on-site Safe"... So the Cops still have to show up and enter [on their timeline of course], get to the Safe, open it, and make the weapon ready, instead of "having them in their vehicles". So they've added steps to reacting to a shooter, instead of: Go in, Kill bad guy, Save kids.

How does this farce improve reaction time? How does this increase security BEFORE the Cops arrive? How does this improve anything at all?

That AR-15 doesn't do jack-shit without someone to use it and it's locked up for the Cops WhEn ThEy ArRiVe. That's like locking up all the first-aid equipment and they keep the keys, then going away and saving "There's medical supplies there so they wont die"... It's that fucking stupid.

Do you think that Politicians would be good with handing them a lock-box with a gun in it that they cant open and say "There you go, you're all safe and protected now"?

This isn't a "WIN"... It's a fucking jerk-off session. Designed to distract people from the fact that they don't give a fuck about the Kids, but don't want people to realize it.

They probably spent $50,000 of taxpayer money just so people would STFU without improving the situation at all... Which is the idea behind this asinine action.

1
MLGS 1 point ago +1 / -0

Ridiculous that we even have to consider turning schools into fortified bases instead of solving the problems that actually lead to school shootings.

2
hzuiel 2 points ago +2 / -0

It needs to be both, there will always be deranged people who get past any nets you put out and still try to do awful things.

3
MLGS 3 points ago +3 / -0

There was no such thing as an American school shooting until something happened in the 1960s, nobody's really sure what, and then shortly after you had kids fucked up on SSRIs murdering each other.

1
hzuiel 1 point ago +1 / -0

There is no magic solution. We are very very different culturally from the 50s, the marxists planned it this way, morals, ethics, religion, and many other things declined which is fueling the breakdown of society. You would need a full blown cultural revolution to sweep through the country to fix things. MAGA is about as vlose as anyone has come. Naturally anyone leading such a change would be attacked mercilously.

Also troubled teens and young adults on SSRIs arent on the only ones to perpetuate school attacks. The deadliest school killing to date is the 1927 michigan bath county school disaster, where a disgruntled man hid explosives and incendiaries in a school and set them off at the same time he blew up his own farm after shooting his wife, then drove to the school and blew himself up in his truck taking 4 adults on the scene with him. Had his second explosive and incendiary gone off as planned in the south wing of the building, likely the death toll wouldve been many times what it was as it wouldve cut off another escape route.

This was long before SSRIs or the 60s. It is worth having moderate protection for schools as long as they dont feel like jails. Like anything it needs to be balanced.

1
BelfordBob 1 point ago +1 / -0

I hope they are using 50 grain hollow point varmint grenade ammo so those close range shots will have maximum effectiveness with almost zero chance of ricochet or over penetration.. We got some of that police hollow point 62 grain stuff with the blue cases a long time ago and it is devastating at close range but is a bit heavy and might pass thru at close range.. Wonder if they will have SBR compact AR's so they can be more easily deployed inside a building?? Once the SCOTUS rulings work their way thru the system and we can SBR weapons without big brother BATFE making unconstitutional rules I might do that for a home defense pew pew..
