"Free" healthcare is a joke, the government decides who gets help and who doesn't. So if you're a dissident no help for you. And the basics also only covers cheapest possible ways of patching you up enough to stay alive or work, but not enough to resist the government. They want you sick and dumb.

The average hospital is a 5 story building where the bottom floor supply limited care, the rest of the building is just offices for mid level bosses and "administrative staff", extremely inefficient. And the stuff you might actually need, like dental care is not free. Expect to pay €20 000 to fix your broken teeth.

Depending on how much you make and where you live in the US, it's not much better. One of my friends should be looking at a little under 50% on income + 7.25% in sales tax.

XDingoX83 8 points ago +8 / -0

I make six figures in the US and they take about 33-34% not counting sales tax.

The US tax code is actually worse than Europe we just hide all the taxes.

Let's not even begin to discuss property taxes..

It's free at the point of use that is all. You can't win. In the UK it is run by the government and it is so shockingly wasteful, inefficient, and provides such poor service it is always in crisis. Also, the waiting lists are full of those who have never contributed and are at the mercy of big pharma. Still, if you get by truck the trip in the ambulance is not going to bankrupt you.

Honestly, with the quality of "free" healthcare here I'd rather have the risk of being bankrupt from an ambulance ride or a broken leg. I had to go to the hospital to see if my ribs were broken last year which falls under the category of chest pain, I had to wait 9 hours while I watched new "immigrants" come in with covid "symptoms" and go outside for a smoke for their short wait to be triaged before me.

Wait time to see the GP is currently 8 weeks. Same experience in the AE as well. Was there for 9 hours when i got injured at work.

So were your ribs broken?

I have broken my ribs. It is painful. There is nothing they do for them. They just need time to heal.

.. and since "the government" is paying for it. Guess what they get to determine whether or not you even get treatment.

It's the worst of both worlds. Take your money, use it to pay for medical care then decide whether or not you are worthy to get what you paid for.

There’s no free lunches sweetheart. Now that you understand that, who do you think is a better steward of your money? You, or the government?

leakmouth 5 points ago +5 / -0

Here government, take 70% of my income. Oh boy! Now I only have to wait 2 years for my free heart surgery to treat my heart condition which will likely kill me in less than a year. Gotta make sure our elite pedophile overlords and invading migrants get all their stolen child organs transplanted and tranny surgeries first after raping my kids!

A little boy was just taken off life support by the UK government against his parent's wishes.

Shamb3 2 points ago +2 / -0

It was several years ago, but a similar case they also would not allow them to pay for their own care or take them to a country that would allow them to get care.

It would have been too big of a political hit to allow a boy they sentenced to death to be saved by American doctors.

Not only are taxes high, but on top of that they also depend on subsidy via national defense provided by and having trade surpluses with, you guessed it… the US.

European and Canadian “utopian” health care systems are total houses of cards

anatidaephobia -1 points ago +1 / -2

Defense from what exactly? the invaders could easily be handled by the local defense but neither they or the supposed American defense does anything about it. And Russia hasn't been a threat since the Soviet days, they're only a threat if you provoke them and only America is provoking them.

Sweden is EU's only net payer.

Just wait till she realizes that if she wasn't paying those taxes she'd have enough money to pay for on-demand health care (assuming she didn't blow it on stupid shit)

Go back home lady. I believe it’s due south from your present position.

1
FightTheSWAMP 1 point ago +1 / -0

Nope. That's not the only reason they have "free" Healthcare. Those high taxes alone still wouldn't be able to cover it. We give them money. In addition, we give them the drugs we developed, for a discount....while charging our own people a fucking arm and a leg. The second we cut our aid and make foreign countries pay the appropriate cost, they would collapse.

1
Fullstackweebdev 1 point ago +1 / -0

I always say this whenever fellow Brits talk about how amazing free healthcare is on the NHS. First, it's a shite service. Second, it ain't free it's taxpayer funded. They can't wrap their heads around it when I point out the treatment in the US is way better and likely the same price if you add up the amount we pay in tax for our shit service.

Up to 70% of total income in Europe is shaved away in taxes depending on the country. This is income tax, property tax, savings tax, mandatory insurances and sales tax combined.

1

"Free" when you can get service.

1
Datamancer 1 point ago +1 / -0

It isn't free, you pay for it whether you use it or not and most likely when you are old and have paid into the system for 50 years, they will deny care. It is a enormous Ponzi scheme.

1
sumnayin2 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm sure lots of people told you...but you never heard it because it didn't fit the agenda until you had to pay the taxes.
