Not a bad idea. Part of the loans are paid off, and you learn a skill set you might be able to actually use.

It’s not gay when you’re underway because you can identify as a woman now. Unless you want it to be gay.

It's only gay if the balls touch.

...different meaning...

You're not really very familiar with the Navy's reputation, are you?

33
Donkeyballs 33 points ago +33 / -0

I’d rather Have a sister in whorehouse than a brother in the Navy!

7
CuckS1ayer 7 points ago +7 / -0

What is the difference?!

22
SPEDMan64 22 points ago +22 / -0

I could more easily handle my sister fucking men than I could my brother. Neither are good, but at least one is rooted in nature.

Oh yea, all those Inclusivity trainings the military has instituted will surely pay off :)

Joking aside, College grads of these days are the same source we get our FBI agents from. The idea of putting them in uniform doesn't sit great with me, especially making them debt slaves who can't disobey orders. Worrisome.

16
Taco_of_Kiev 16 points ago +16 / -0

Just what America needs, a whole boatload of commissioned lieutenants with degrees in social work and polisci.

That's cheaper than any cruise missile our country has in its inventory. Look at all that magical money going to Ukraine to be stolen and wasted.

8
Seruna_Kanus 8 points ago +8 / -0

Most will fail out of boot then go on to claim they were in the navy for street cred.

7
HeavyMetalPatriot 7 points ago +7 / -0

As recruitment numbers drop, boot camp will be "adjusted" and "modernized" and "revamped" so no standards exist whatsoever.

6

Bad idea. Coddled tards who make shitty decisions aren’t warriors they are coddled self serving fuckwits. I want a military of warriors that live to eat the heart of their enemies. Enough bullshit throwing money into enlistments and coupons for debt.

7

2
TheRPatriot 2 points ago +2 / -0

I’m very conflicted on if I should join or not for this reason

10
lupe 10 points ago +10 / -0

do not join, prior navy here, whole military is fucked

1
TheRPatriot 1 point ago +2 / -1

It’s fucked up, because for a long part of my life I wanted to serve. I love this country, and I feel like I’d regret it deeply if I didn’t give it a full shot. I was discouraged years ago due to medical conditions, but learned recently that they can be waivered. I have been thinking about joining the marines. Plus veterans get a lot of sweet deals when they get out, not that I want to do it just for that

3
lupe 3 points ago +3 / -0

After getting out I always told myself, if I had to join again it would be marines but even they have that rainbow flag shit creeping in. My only advice if you were to ever go is to do as much research on the life in the mil, go officer if you can, find good ways to deal with the stress and new globohomo stress and SAVE SAVE SAVE.

1
shaven_llama 1 point ago +1 / -0

Former Army officer here. You're expected to promote and enforce new command (and higher) policies as if they are your own.

Who do you think is tasked with implementing all of this rainbow BS? They'll probably make you attend unit-sponsored pride events to show "the command supports this effort" etc.

If I had it to do over, I'd enlist and go warrant officer as I soon as I could. Those guys always seemed to have it made.

2
Geralt_of_Rivia1 2 points ago +2 / -0

Damn old Naval officer here, they have been trying to shoehorn warrant officers into what company grade officers were ever since ~Carter

2
Annoyedwiththedevoid 2 points ago +2 / -0

At the very least, wait until after the next election. If Trump or Desantis wins, join. If anyone else wins (or cheats, but "wins") don't join.

2
DontArkancideMeBro 2 points ago +2 / -0

Abandon all hope. The USA of WW2 would declare war on us. I’m happy and grateful that I didn’t enlist 20 years ago, knowing what I know now. There are only a few career paths that would still be viable, such as Nuclear tech in the Navy.

29
FireannDireach 29 points ago +29 / -0

So that's how they going to get around paying off those loans with taxpayer funds directly. The colleges still get fat and happy on loan cash, and they get to swell the ranks of the Navy with people with useless woke degrees who don't really want to be there.

I'd be happier with a system, where a percentage gets paid off for every year in service, but it's still indirectly paying off those loans through taxes, so fuck this idea and any idea they come up with.

Edited to add - read the article. New recruits will get $50k in cash AND student debt erased. Which we all will pay for. Fuck this idea right in it's ass. Cash OR debt relief.

The only good thing is that so few are eligible.

6
trump4045 6 points ago +6 / -0

Lol nobody is getting 50k cash. That's lies made up by the recruiters to lure in unsuspecting college kids.

3
FireannDireach 3 points ago +3 / -0

Cash, in that they don't get it as a benefit, they get a check when they finish boot, or whenever the Navy pays out.

6
Geralt_of_Rivia1 6 points ago +6 / -0

Edited to add - read the article. New recruits will get $50k in cash AND student debt erased.

And higher base pay, enlist with a college degree and you start out as an E-4, let alone talking about OCS.

1
Oldjeansandbelt 1 point ago +1 / -0

Let’s just point out how useless your degree is if your only job is enlisted military

2
Geralt_of_Rivia1 2 points ago +2 / -0

There are a lot of degrees that are very employable with 3-4 years experience - but shit entry level work. The military provides a lot of awesome entry level opportunities. A 21 year old with a degree in physics isnt that employable, a 25 year old with a degree in physics and 4 years working on Navy nuclear reactors is highly valuable in a civilian context.

1
MasksAreChildAbuse 1 point ago +1 / -0

GoodvsEvil2 21 points ago +21 / -0

"The Pentagon has estimated that only about 1% of 17- to 24-year-old Americans are both eligible and inclined to enter military service. About 77% of people in that age group are disqualified because of obesity, drug use or criminal records. Most of the remaining 23% have no interest in joining the military.

Even in active-duty ranks, more than 17% of US military personnel are considered obese, according to a 2019 Pentagon study. The Navy had the highest obesity rate among all branches, at 22%."

interesting fatasses.

6
censored4wrongthink 6 points ago +6 / -0

The army feeds them - can't blame them

Pumps the soldiers full of cheap food and seed oils and wonders why the force is fat and readiness is lacking

-3
Undying -3 points ago +4 / -7

We should be using criminals as slave labor in the military.

13
Powdered_Sugar 13 points ago +14 / -1

No, because then they'll invent more and more "crimes" to arrest people for slave labor.

Now, crimes like murder and sexual abuse of a minor... Yeah, sounds like a plan.

5
Geralt_of_Rivia1 5 points ago +5 / -0

We didnt need those fuckers when we drafted them to fight in Vietnam and we dont need them now

2

Just like when judges in Spain were encouraged to sentence more people to the galleys to meet the needs of the navy. The bar was continuously lowered to make numbers.

1

The good news is that they have just the right person in the VP position if they decided to go that way.

12
Owmyballz 12 points ago +12 / -0

Seeing as the US Navy is filled with fucking ship designs from the 1990's, I wouldn't want to get in one. The Navy decided to fuck around with stealth and littoral shit ships to fight Al Qaeda (real smart decision there, we know how sand jog's like to float) and not a single one made it to delivery and are being pulled from the fleet. The demented fool set each of our missile cruisers into retirement. So we are stuck with Nimitz carriers and a Ford, for subs its Los Angeles and Virginia and 62 Arleight Burke class destroyers. Capitol fucking show US Navy. Those assholes wasted more money on shit ships and failed weapon development (fucking rail gun - assholes) that the Admirals should be brought up on charges of treason.

5
Youobeynow 5 points ago +5 / -0

The rail gun concept was badass....but costly as all get out.

7
Owmyballz 7 points ago +8 / -1

What kills a ship, 1 rail gun round launched at 300 miles or a hypersonic missile launched at 6,000 miles? Both can't be destroyed, but one has 20X's the range of the other. Even the Chicoms new MBT's are set up that way. They outgun the M1A2 SEP by enough to where the Abrams can't engage. They have lighter armor and are faster with a bigger gun.

The fucking US are following the Nazi's tactics of building technologically advanced but numerically smaller forces while China and the Russian's are following the Soviet strategy of numerically overwhelming numbers + new is the range advantage.

There needs to be trials to hang our military procurement leaders, they sold the US out.

1
Youobeynow 1 point ago +1 / -0

Coat per projectile isn't mentioned anywhere on your rant.... Color me shocked. I'd rather not feed the beast known as the military industrial complex.

Are you aware of many naval engagements north of 300 miles since ships were wooden? You can have both ballistic missiles AND a railgun on a ship.

Jesus fucking Christ you armchair sailor's are hilarious!

2
Owmyballz 2 points ago +3 / -1

When you can get a carrier kill on a missile that costs < $100M for a carrier that cost $13B you tell me who came up with a better model

Bye jackass, I don't need to give a basic econ lesson to a luddite fool.

2
meme_kat 2 points ago +2 / -0

I like you gusto.

I also agree with your analysis. The Russians hypersonic missile technology effectively makes traditional naval battle tactics no longer effective.

You can fire a missile by sub, ship, ground, or air and hit a target at distances far outside the range of fire by normal projectile weapons. You just co-ordinate and spatial guidance from a laser, satellite, or similar.

The Phalanx CIWS isn't going to do much good again one or ten 3M22 Zircon or Kh-47M2 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles

There aren't many scenarios left were traditional or rail kinetic projectiles make sense unless it's in outer space. The whole point of a navy is to hit targets at distance, maintain supply lines, and extend superiority beyond controlled territory. These ships made a lot of sense 50 years ago, but now they are huge floating coffins.

1
Youobeynow 1 point ago +1 / -0

And the cost per projectile on the railgun is.... Jesus Christ in flip flops you are dumb!

1
Pappy_Gunn 1 point ago +1 / -0

Plus, they're Chinese so they can can dispense with the armor.

Western countries don't have that kind of manpower, so high-tech is way to go. That was what the Nazis figured too. Anyways, there are a number of western counties with fucked up procurement. Alexander the Great used to kill logisticians who failed him.

-2
Geralt_of_Rivia1 -2 points ago +1 / -3

China doesnt have ships.

4
Owmyballz 4 points ago +4 / -0

They launched a working super carrier with electromagnetic catapults, we have steam. They are the only other country in the world with the engineering capabilities to do this. Their next Supercarrier will be nuclear powered. They are working through the techstack. They also developed hypersonic missiles to defeat Aegis. Seeing how Bush and Obama allowed them to steal our plans for our carriers, they can do it. As to ships, the Chinese are launching quite a bit of brown water ships which is all they need to prevent a blockade and they are working on their bluewater navy.

The CCP has, 2 carriers (old vtol) and 1 super carrier (steam), 41 destroyers, 58 attack subs, 12 nuclear subs, 8 ballistic subs and then comes the lice, 43 frigates and 72 corvettes. Looking at the lice and giving each of them 6 anti-ship missiles a piece, that's a lot of missiles coming towards a carrier group.

We fucked up on our military procurement and didn't keep building our fleet. We have two oceans to defend, they have one. Its going to be a fucking problem especially considering France is about the only Navy the Europeans have and it will have problems with the Russian fleet.

1
DontArkancideMeBro 1 point ago +1 / -0

I would think that Britain is ahead of the French as far as naval power goes. 2- QE class carriers even though they are not nuclear, and they have a handful of boomers prowling out there.

1
Owmyballz 1 point ago +1 / -0

The British Navy is pathetic. Look up fleet strength of brit to french.

Pappy_Gunn 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah, once you put it that way, the Navy doesn't sound so great...

2
Owmyballz 2 points ago +2 / -0

They keep building old designs save for the new carrier and sub. They didn't do shit for destroyers and cruisers and that's the problem. They are trying to build a bunch of small carriers to make it more expensive for the hypersonics to kill carriers.

1
Pappy_Gunn 1 point ago +1 / -0

The big question is how good are those hypersonics, really. And the launching system/range. The Chicoms' gear is usually crap. Shiny, but crap.

Only 65K? I'm a Navy Vet and the G.I. Bill covered 4 full years of college for me as well as giving me E-5 BAH for those 4 years. I guess they don't offer that anymore. Just how shit are the benefits for enlisting now?

10
FireannDireach 10 points ago +10 / -0

They get $50k cash and student debt relief. Signing bonuses went up because of low enlistment. New recruits with no college degree can still get GI Bill tuition as veterans. This is for the 1% of college graduates who didn't spend 4 years binge drinking and counting ceiling tiles.

5
CMDRConanAAnderson 5 points ago +5 / -0

Depends on your race and what's in your pants.

They don't. GI bill has been gutted and inadequate for all but community colleges since the 1990s

1
America1stAndOnly 1 point ago +1 / -0

Well that's just not true seeing as how it paid for me to go to a state college 10 years ago.

8
HunterBidensPC 8 points ago +8 / -0

The college degree is truly worthless.

Used to be you’d fight for your country to go to college.

Now people would die for money launderers just to pay off the useless piece of paper that was supposed to make them more money to begin with

7
Lurking-My-Life-Away 7 points ago +7 / -0

Ah, the old bait-and-switch military-gonna-pay-your-debts recruiting tool.

Let me tell you how this works. They don't pay them off in one lump sum. Nope. You're stuck with the student loan payments on your enlisted pay until the military decides to pay back some of it. Once a year you'll get your distribution to your student loan payments. If you signed up for the full 8 years necessary to retain the full student loan payments then you'll have to pay on your student loans for... 8 years before they finally give you the last distribution. Oh, what was that? You thought you'd get a full $65,000 in student loan payments? Nope. Not so fast you dumb enlisted fucker. You'll have to pay taxes on that too.

Uncle Sam thanks you for your service.

6
Recyclops 6 points ago +6 / -0

"Oh my, all those fresh seamens." - Rump Admiral Dick Levine

5
RogueLeaderX 5 points ago +5 / -0

This is how they are going to make up those recruitment shortfalls, by coaxing students into service.

Well, they voted for this clown, may as well serve him.

5
Seruna_Kanus 5 points ago +5 / -0

How does the navy expect the usual women's studies degree holder to fit through the doors on the ships?

4
Patriot451776 4 points ago +4 / -0

This title is fucking awful. You still have to volunteer, there is no draft. Jfc

1
ghost_of_aswartz [S] 1 point ago +2 / -1

Fair enough. But what i meant was by debt draft is that when you're in debt and you have a shit degree and can't find a job in this post covid economy, you have but one legal choice

you can always sell your body or drugs

4
Kek_Johnson 4 points ago +4 / -0

Get your woke assed underwater basket weaving gender studies degree payed off by joining the military? There's nothing smart about that. Last person I'd want go into battle with is a dumb woke fucker. It isn't going to benefit anyone.... actually now that I think about it. Put 'em all on the front.

7
Geralt_of_Rivia1 7 points ago +7 / -0

"I have a B.S. in Physics but cant get a job... oh look, Navy nuclear sub technician, start as an E-4 and pay off my federal student loans"

That is their actual goal, and for that kind of person it is a pretty decent deal.

4
ghost_of_aswartz [S] 4 points ago +5 / -1

You'd be surprised how many have valid and studied degrees and can't get a job. I knew a gal in colorado with a microbiology degree and she ended up managing TGI Fridays and making a lot of money. She never used her microbiology degree but I'm sure it impresses all the mexican chefs and dishwashers she manages.

2
Geralt_of_Rivia1 2 points ago +2 / -0

Microbiology is a pretty useless degree besides as a science teacher

4
S8-10 4 points ago +5 / -1

Paying off old loans or getting the amount drastically cut has always been one of the benefits of active duty.

2
Highball 2 points ago +2 / -0

Can confirm. Tech school bro got 15K for his student loans. 20 years ago.

4
IamBACK 4 points ago +4 / -0

In the old days, they just started the National School Lunch Program so that poor kids would have enough nutrition to be physically capable of passing the Physical exam for admission. They had few other career options.

4
dirtymikeandthebois 4 points ago +4 / -0

I was going to join in 08 to pay off existing student loans. Mine were private student loans. They wouldn't commit to paying them off. I would imagine if your number is that high you'll have private loans as well

1
BeardedNinjaPede 1 point ago +1 / -0

The $50k sign on bonus could be used towards private student loans.

4
InsideMan 4 points ago +5 / -1

2
DERedRider 2 points ago +2 / -0

They've been paying off student loan debts for new recruits under the student loan repayment program for years. It looks like they bumped up the maximum amount but this isn't a new program.

Enlistment bonuses for specific career fields are also not new, they've also been used for years. They are not paid all up front, usually you get a percentage for each year of successful service until it's paid in full at the end of your first term.

Looks like RT news hyperbole to me.

2
SisterCovfefe 2 points ago +2 / -0

Had similar thoughts.

I don't think it's a bad idea on the surface.

2
MustafaJones 2 points ago +2 / -0

I don’t know what retention and recruitment figures are like for the navy but I’m not sure bribing college students is the best way to train competent sailors. I can’t imagine someone who enters the navy just to pay off a loan will be a particularly motivated soldier and the navy already has enough incidents of ships and subs running into things while at sea.

2
FredRedd 2 points ago +2 / -0

At least there are no more mean tweets!

2

2

2
Kek_The_World 2 points ago +2 / -0

So they are paying up to $65k to take the clot shot. Nope.

2
MR_ROBOT1776 2 points ago +2 / -0

More proof that they don’t want patriots fit for service, they want slaves for wartime. This is why they’re so picky about who joins when we’re not at war, and who gets kicked out over vaccine bullshit, but will suck your dick to get you to join when desperate.

Now they get to see qualified patriots staying as far away as possible. Don’t join, kids! I know a lot of people who went through some terrible stuff, just to get out and need to go to college or get job training anyway. You likely won’t be doing surgery or working on nuclear tech unless you’ve already got the basic skills from a degree.

Rather, you’ll be waiting weeks with nothing to do, until you’re getting shot at in some shithole. Then the shitty VA will try to kill you with their medical services or buy you in debt.

2

What a bargain! Serve under a corrupt demented fraud and be force jabbed! What college loan indebted young person can pass up such a great deal! A gender studies degree will get you far in the Navy these days.

2

It’s like Squid Game

2
EuphoricTrillby 2 points ago +2 / -0

I didnt think it half bad an idea to let those riddled with student loan debt to help build the wall to pauback their federal loans.

They’ve had loan repayment forever. The only catch is that you come in as enlisted instead of as an officer even if you have a degree.

This has been a thing for a long time, you can either opt for an enlistment bonus or having your student loans paid off. Depending on what MOS you join up as you could get a big enough signing bonus to pay off your student loans and still have some cash left, but in general if a person is looking at the military to pay off student loans then they're probably already at rock bottom and have nothing left to lose.

Not new. Debt forgiveness (or reduction) for active duty personnel has been around for 20 or 30 years, minimum. Maybe they raised the amount some but not a new concept

Hah. If having to get a job to feed yourself is "wage slavery" then what is this?
