Yep. The NSA rents a whole floor in the AT&T building that receives the trunk coming in across the Pacific.
And there is an inside power struggle (aka war) between the three letter agencies.
When the NSA, being generally competent and highly technical, has all your dirty laundry, and they’re posturing, threatening to leak, you, the other agency, dirty as you are, get to work cleaning up the mess by any means necessary.

That said, there's a lot of crazy bullshit around that thing and a whole bunch of fake news. About the only thing I know for sure after lots and lots of digging is that the FBI allowed a guy that recently changed his will to buy explosives on a license that was nine years passed it's expiration date during the late spring of an election year. Kind of like how they allow people to buy guns with questionable backgrounds after a gun control bill has been drafted but has yet to hit the Congressional floor.
It honestly wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for them to drop some fake pictures or selectively edited pictures and videos out there just to keep people from asking why that guy was allowed to buy those explosives given all the circumstances around it - and get away with it. You'd think the expired license purchase attempt would open an investigation. And it should have stopped at the ATTEMPT.
It's not hard at all to make a bomb out of an RV, though, once you have the explosives. $30 well spent at Home Depot is all you need. One of those outlet timers that people use for sprinkler systems is really all you need.
At the time, I was using Brave search and Duck Duck Go. I primarily use Qwant now, though it's results aren't stellar for deep diving. For videos, Rumble and BitChute. I've asked for links nearly every time someone posted about them storing election data there or there being a PRISM operation there. So far, nothing.
There was a lot going around about disputes with the carriers. But I highly doubt a carrier or I think maybe it was google was going to take it that far. But yes the quicker it disappears the more likely government involvement. They learned from JFK, you can't be having decades of questions, documentaries and movies about you. There will be no docu series or movies about vegas.
