Just don't rank her, you don't have to rank them all and they don't get the vote if you don't rank them.

Ranking her last is equivalent to ranking everyone else and not ranking her. Instant runoff can never have a person's vote count for their last-choice candidate.

Sadly Murkowski is going to win in November because of Ranked Choice Voting, pushed hard by progressives and secretly by her campaign. She will come in second to to Tshibaka by a decent margin, but will siphon enough votes away that Kelly won't get 50%.

Democrats and GOP are on the same ballot, so the Democrats are all choosing Murkowski as their second choice. When the Dem comes in third and is eliminated, all their votes go to Murkowski, pushing her to the top even though she is not the favored GOP candidate.

Patriots can do little about it, as people have floated leaving their other choices blank or ranking Murkowski like 5th. It will almost entirely come down to the Democrat actions at the polls...

It's disturbingly common for people here to not realize that IRV actually benefits us in most elections, as it diminishes the effect of the split conservative vote.

In a "normal" primary + first-past-the-post system, Murkowski would probably win the R nom today with under 50%, leaving us no MAGA options in the general. In the new Alaska system, she has to beat another Republican in November.

She had 44% of the vote in 2016 with full Republican support. The only way she beats Tshibaka is if she gets a decent portion of the R vote and most of the Dem/third-party voters pick her over Tshibaka. That's not likely to happen.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 5 ▼
– ab1ab1 5 points 168 days ago +6 / -1

There's a chance you'll find how wrong you are about "actually benefits us" in a few hours when Sarah Palin and Nick Begich III split the conservative vote in the special House election in Alaska, and a Democrat wins because of second-choice votes (probably from Begich voters who despise Palin).

Even if Palin somehow slips through (less likely), or Begich does (more likely; if Palin comes in 3rd place), the ONLY way the liberal Democrat had any chance at all was thanks to Rigged Choice Voting.

Rigged Choice Voting is designed so that liberals of both parties benefit and conservatives never win another election except in the most conservative Republican states -- of which Alaska is definitely NOT one.

That's why liberals simply adore RCV, and when they see how well it works in Alaska -- even if they lose they still came closer than they otherwise would have -- they will spend big bucks (like they did in Alaska in 2020) to get ignorant voters in other states to adopt this rigged game as well.

When Democrats find themselves losing the game, they change the rules.

▲ 1 ▼

'Splitting the vote' does not happen with Instant-runoff voting (IRV). What happens is that your vote gets transferred to your next most preferred candidate.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 4 ▼

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– Throwingway22 2 points 168 days ago +3 / -1

Ranked voting benefits incumbents, not insurgent candidates. Support it if you never want to take back the party.

It's the same retarded logic that convinced people that the 17th amendment would increase their influence.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 0 ▼
– Foletado 0 points 167 days ago +1 / -1

You have it backwards. It benefits newcomers more because people will select them as their first choice and old party or incumbents more.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 0 ▼
– Throwingway22 0 points 167 days ago +1 / -1

Meanwhile, in reality, those extra candidates get eliminated first and their redistributed second place votes will almost exclusively go to the incumbents. Putting a loss for the incumbent into the win column after redistribution.

Retarded faggots like you need to get lost. Show up, cast your vote, but you're too stupid to contribute beyond that.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– Foletado 1 point 165 days ago +1 / -0

Meanwhile, in reality, those extra candidates get eliminated first

Being eliminated first means that they had the least number of votes as preferred, which means that they never had a chance.

That is simple, retard.

▲ 2 ▼
– SickOfSatanism 2 points 168 days ago +2 / -0

No it doesn't you retarded faggot.

Conservatives only vote republican. Some vote libertarian. They hate each other though, so would only vote once.

Leftists have a half dozen different parties at minimum. They rank them all but ignore the conservative parties. So all those votes get recounted to the Democrat.

If RCV goes into effect, Democrats will ALWAYS win.

The incumbent class knows how to manipulate the system which they designed to tip scales in their favor. Decades of making special interests rich thanks to Murkowski is the biggest obstacle, hence her best weapon. Not many incumbents fall victim to new blood. I like Palin because she's never been shown to be a RINO and she's demonstrated that she can get elected in Alaska. Somebody needs to get Murkowski out of that seat and even if they are a RINO there's a low chance it will be worse. She's been supportive of MAGA in recent years, as far as I know.

She was McCain's running mate for the same reason any candidate chooses any VP for their ticket...To round it out. She was good for McCain in the same way Pence was good for Trump...They appeal to people in the base the candidate does not.

You can do what you want, but I never stopped liking Palin since there's never been any real reason to besides the TV saying so. Probably because I understand how politics go. There is no "we". Fuck off.

I told you why they selected her and none of it was random. I can't guarantee she won't be s RINO but, from anything she's actually done, there's nothing that indicates that she will be. Your superstitious hysteria about her being on that ticket wasn't that. Besides not necessarily being ready for the national stage, she was preferable to McCain. None of that is bad.

I am hoping Murkowski loses keep in mind she lost before in a primary and she is one of the few politicians to get elected after she lost her primary in a write in campaign.

I am hoping the people of Alaska are sick of her but to win in a write in campaign means people in a majority went out of their way to write her name in at the ballot box. I think that’s why so many republicans don’t cross her is because she was elected by mandate of the people which is rare.

I’m hoping the people had enough of here but we shall not know until the general election if history repeats itself

I don't think there's a realistic chance Cheney survives the primary, but Murkowski...they have the whole system magically changed there to make sure she'll be on the ballot November, pretty much no matter what, so that she can get all the Dem votes to block a MAGA candidate, essentially giving Democrats veto power over the result of Republican primaries.

What do you call a candidate who wins because all the Democrats vote for them to prevent a Republican from getting into office? A Democrat. Murkowski is, at this point, functionally a Democrat for every realistic purpose.

Doesn't AK have some weirdo rules where multiple candidates qualify for the general? I heard traitor Lisa is a lock to survive today.

I always thought you shouldn't vote if you don't know what you're voting for. If I don't know all of the options, but I know maga is the most American, it is easy to pick the first choice. If there is no maga on the ballot, I don't vote.

So how do you do ranked choice in that scenario? Just vote for the maga candidate and ignore the rest? Will they void your vote at that point for not playing their game?

Voters are not required to rank more than one candidate. If you vote for only one candidate, it will count.

This is a primary election today. A voter can only pick one candidate. The top four candidates will advance to the mid term where ranked choice voting will be in place for the November mid term. There will also be a Ranked choice election today for the remainder of Don Young’s term who passed away….included today is also a primary for a full term in the house, with the top four advancing to the mid terms in November.

Native Corps are backing the dem first, murky second. Murky makes it past the primary but won’t get enough first choice votes to win the general. Also, just don’t rank murky, rank a write in.

I think Murkowski is primary proof. Last time they removed her via primary, she won on a miracle write in campaign.
