I see a lot of adults claiming that they’re “only recently diagnosed” with ADHD and saying medication is the best thing that’s ever happened to them.
Maybe the problem is just lifestyle. But what does it say when you have to drug yourself to deal with the modern world?
In adults, it's more just poor attention. Not many adults have hyperactivity issues.
Oh, and I'll add that a lot of adults who believe themselves to have ADHD probably just actually have issues with anxiety, OCD, and other such things that make it difficult to focus.
That's how it is with a lot of drugs. If you put a kid on ritalin, antidepressants, anti anxiety meds, etc., they never learn to deal with the reality of such problems in their lives.
I'm convinced most of these kinds of issues could be solved if people just spent time outdoors exercising their minds and bodies. And probably spending time alone to think through their problems.
It means people with ADHD aren't normal.
It's not lifestyle, it's biochemical and neurological.
I don't know about that, because most of my group of friends have terrible unhealthy lifestyles but are mentally healthy and not on antipsychotics. Unhealthy lifestyles aren't new, but adults supposedly coming down with crippling mental disorders in their midlife out of complete nowhere with absolutely zero history of any mental issues is.
The thing is all of my peers that have showed up with lifelong and severe yet miraculously “only recently diagnosed” mental illnesses in midlife suspiciously have blue haired friends they met only shortly before. Those of us smart enough to avoid these pinkos like the plague have strangely avoided this fate, unanimously and regardless of lifestyle.
I think it's basically genderspecial, except much more palatable outside of insane blue districts and with fun drugs. Genderspecial-lite, so to speak.
Leading an unhealthy lifestyle doesn't change your biochemical and neurological makeup. Bad choices aren't the same as bad chemistry and genetics.
Most of you were poisoned by your lazy mothers and "fathers" who were too weak to and immature to raise real children so they ran into the arms of the pharmaceutical to save them, like they do with every other challenge they face.
Look at all the armchair psychiatrists in here.
Fucking innernet experts.
Yeah, I love the "suck it up" tough love approach to mental illness here. Because that fixes things for everyone...
My wife used to work in the PAP (Patient Assistance Program) at a local mental health center.
They were always amazed at the amount of drugs the doctors prescribed adolescent patients. Some had enough they had to click "next" to see the 2nd screen of prescriptions.
A lot of the problems with "add and adhd" are simply how my brain works does not sit well in an office setting. So you look like or feel like you can not work with out meds.
I happen to have a job where it fits a little more. I can NOT sit for 8 hours in a cube. I can NOT answer a phone all day. I can NOT work on a computer all day.
So I run a convenience store that has multiple little tasks that need completed all day in various parts of the store. Sometimes I chat up vendors. Sometimes I stock. Sometimes I MAKE MY SELF sit at a computer.
I also happen to have a boss who, finally, understands that my "zoning out" for 15 minutes gets a solid hour of work over trying to "make me focus ALL DAY" and I get very little done.
I feel bad for the people who feel like they need to medicate. You just need to find a rhythm that works for you and a job that understands it.
Yeah, there's no "rhythm" to a chemical imbalance in the brain, sorry.
strange. I live it every day just fine.
Well, as you've stated, you have to force yourself to do things and had to find a specific role for yourself in order to find something that worked for you. It's "fine" now, but anything outside of this lifestyle sees you struggling as you admit to in some way. And that's in no way a judgment--it's just not as simple as you address it to be. Chemical/neurological imbalances can't always be solved by simple lifestyle changes, and in the opposite direction, aren't the reason those imbalances occur.
But I get what you're saying with the convenience store. Finding something for yourself full of tasks allows you create a full day of checklist items and you never get to stop and worry about it. I miss working at the deli I used to work at in college for the same reason.
Amphetamine isn't a narcotic, but yeah.
Here is the thing with ADHD, if you believe it is a real condition then you must admit that it was brought on recently by some adverse element whether pharmaceutical or environmental.
The most bizarre thing is that every person I know that believes ADHD is real, never, NEVER wonders where it came from and why it suddenly showed up in one generation out of the blue. They lie to themselves and say it always existed. It didn't. It simply didn't.
Well, it is real, but it's just more of a different way of the mind working. It's always been with us, and most cases really don't need medication. There's nothing wrong with these people, their mind is just better suited for different types of tasks. This is why it "mostly affects young men" since they're supposed to be the ones hunting down prey, or hunting down women (in a manner of speaking) and confining them to function in a way they're maladapted to is what causes their "problems".
Basically, for the most part, they don't have a disorder. It's just called that because they try to fit in a world not suited for them. Don't try to squeeze yourself into that world. Modify your world to better fit you. ('World' in this context meaning things they interact with, not the literal whole world)
Why does it need to be admitted that it was "brought on recently" in order for it to be real to you? Undiagnosed health issues can persist through the majority of someone's lives without them ever knowing what the actual problem is.
Wait how many damn recess breaks are these kids getting? All I remember was 15 minutes if the weather was nice.
I feel like it was like 30 minutes when I was in school, but I can't remember.
There is such a thing as ADHD, but medication for it is being given to robustly healthy bored kids, or anybody else a teacher regards as work.
Also, giving a child to much to think about (such as the parents' divorce) leads to distraction and acting out. Medication will keep them more quiet, but it's not the cure.
Medication is not a cure, for sure. It can help though. Adderall and the other drugs dont get people with ADHD high like it does for people without it. I have a friend that discovered he had ADHD when he did speed and felt normal...not high. There are a lot of stories like that.
Born in Texas 1972... Was one of the first boys to be "diagnosed" with ADHD... I have lived and figured out many things since then, you don't need their drugs... if you wish, ask me anything... I live in South Korea now, so I may need to answer your questions in the morning... lol
I remember very vividly when I was at the doctor and they told my mom I had ADD. We were just sitting there in the empty room and I was bored sitting on the little stool with wheels in the room spinning around waiting for the doctor to come in. As soon as he came in and saw me bored out of my mind spinning around, he said definitely ADD. They put me on ritalin (same chem composition as meth) and thankfully my mom took me off of it after about a week or so because she said it make me like a zombie...imagine that.
I am a very hyper person and probably actually am add/adhd but now now I just stick with the natural medicine that helps me focus...CANNABIS!
Don't forget the part where the school and parents collect a government check.
Homeschool your children. If you don’t you’re just making weak excuses. Don’t @ me. Just man the fuck up
