I really hate that. I go to YT for other videos, many educational to engage in discussions. It was so disheartening to write a well thought out response to the video to spark a discussion only to be shadow banned.

Other comments are shadow banned outright.

Someone could build a separate tweet viewer not on twitter using whatever algorithm they wanted.

The “reach “ problem could be solved outside twitter.

Youtube has gotten wicked bad, they delete dozens of comments and as of now most of them still show up in the counter (that we know of). It’s really unfortunate they just shadow ban millions of people and no one has a clue if your one of them or not, maybe they let 1 in 10 though so you think people can still see them. It should be a felony to silence people, especially to do it in a way that they believe they are not when in fact they are.

Imo we should push for legislation that makes all forms of unseen censorship illegal. Yeah you can ban people and whatnot on your websites, but you can’t deceive them about it so you can keep making money while they believe they have a voice.

▲ 17 ▼
– Computer000 17 points 66 days ago +17 / -0

A good way to test if YouTube shadow banned your comment is to sign out and look for your comment. If you don’t see it then no one else can publicly.

The purchase price was $44 billion. He was lent money and he has other equity investors. No one knows who they are or what covenants on control Elon agreed to get their funding. I’m not convinced Elon actually fully controls Twitter.

Yeah you probably are. There's 3 categories of people in this matter. Those happy with the left's control over these platforms. Those that want a change aka beggars, myself included even tho I don't use them. And those actually changing things themselves like Trump, Torba, and even Elon by creating new platforms or changing existing ones.

So I guess I am in categories #1 and #2.

– GarudaOne 5 points 66 days ago +5 / -0

Right.

Too much Nirvana Fallacy going on, "if we don't achieve absolute 100% victory it's pointless." But that's not how the neoliberal monsters win. They win by death of a thousand cuts and shifting the Overton Window one millimeter at a time over years.

It's how gun control came to America. First big step was the Sullivan Act in New York in 1911. Twenty years later after the idea of applying for a permit to own a gun was normalized, the National Firearms Act was passed in 1934, putting all those evil fully-automatics out of range of the average citizen and introducing a truckload of necessary paperwork to own a damn muffler a.k.a. "silencer" for your guns and putting an arbitrary 16-inch minimum barrel length on rifles and shotguns or else you're a criminal.

34 years later, after this is normalized, the Gun Control Act of 1968 is passed. Now you can no longer order guns through the mail delivered to your home, everyone selling guns needs to get a Federal Firearms License, and tons of small cheap pistols are banned from import because of an arbitrary "points" system (which is why the Glock 25 and 28 pistols were never sold in the USA, and another big example was the original Walther PPK; they had to redesign the firearm as the PPK/S with a longer grip to make it legal for import).

18 years later, the Hughes Amendment is passed in 1986 which completely closed off the fully-automatic firearms market by making it illegal for the average citizen to own any full-auto gun manufactured after May 19, 1986 even if he had filled out all the necessary paperwork under the rules of the 1934 NFA. After all ownership of full-autos had become taboo thanks to 52 years of history.

The 1994 crime bill gave America its first taste of a national "assault weapons ban" for ten years until it expired in September 2004. One of the only things I will give George W. Bush credit for, he did not renew the ban because it would have been political suicide for him only two months before the 2004 election, which he barely squeaked by with a 51-48% victory against John Kerry.

Elon was very open about meeting with these censor groups, and said that they had come to an agreement on moderation that would allow him to rebuild Twitter while they stopped pressuring his advertisers to pull out.

They of course immediately broke that agreement, so he told them to go fuck themselves and started unbanning all the people they don’t like.

So while this meme may have at one time been true, a lot has changed even in the past couple of weeks.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– NoCoupForYou 1 point 66 days ago +1 / -0

Exactly. He said they were secretly pressuring advertisers to leave anyway, despite his agreement.

$8/person to be a power user is a better deal.

Twitter is massive, and according to a lot of his terminations, Twitter has goofing off about improving the site/app for countries like India and Brazil with many millions of users, so there's revenue from those countries too, where Globaloney is less powerful

I’m as anti-fed as they come.

But linking a 2 page manifesto by Torba isn’t really what this site is about.

I mean it sure does seem like Torba funds the site given the kind of coverage he gets here.

But if that’s the case I think it’s about time to come clean rather than pretend like the intrinsic support for Torba here all the time is actually organic.

Edit: Massive downvotes really proving my point for me. First 2 page manifesto in PDW history to get more upvotes than downvotes. I’m sure that’s because Torba is so well spoken and makes coherent points that everyone actually read.

"Nihilist Pagans"

"Paid Gab Users who got doxed due to shit security and complained"

"Smart Gab Users who offer functional alternatives to his Team's incompetent code"

"Anybody who pisses off Torba, at his whim"

Yet the Great Torba Trantrum has the balls to criticize other sites for not supporting Free Speech, like Gettr, Truth, etc. --- while his own TOS allows Gab to boot users for ANY reason.

Torba has slammed Trump, DeSantis, and many others repeatedly. He isn't MAGA.

When you’re shook in the head, desperate, and throw every principled narrative you have into a lengthy and rambling narrative that’s what qualifies it as a manifesto.

It’s not a relevant platform for Torba nor is it a relevant platform for a desperate 2 page manifesto in which he battles with another egotistical idiot in Elon Musk. I’m entirely right in saying that and calling out the uselessness of this post.

The OP was "useless" to you. I do not wander into Gab that much, so it was a convenient post that fully described an individual who has fought / is fighting a tremendous battle for free speech.

Some people on here think that anything that doesn’t go 100% the way they want is a loss. Its a losing mindset, they don’t live in reality, just mouthy idealists who don’t understand that life is always about compromising in some fashion, always has been.

Elon buying Twitter is definitely a win, is it perfect? Nope, but is it massively better than it was? Yes, for sure. People, and Torba himself, conveniently ignore how Truth Social has the same kinds of restrictions on “hate speech” as the rest, but he didn’t mention it because he is afraid to anger the MAGA base that makes up his users. Torba can also run his mouth because he doesn’t have much to lose, its not like Gab is actually a popular social media site/service compared to the big players.

It's easy to criticize Elon Musk when you don't have to weigh the decisions to bring the website back from where it has been for so many years while trying to make it successful. I think Elon Musk is doing so much more to restore freedom of speech in this country, far more than the people criticizing him.

Sounds a lot like gun control in a state like Texas. The "pro gun" politicians appease gun control's loudest, most politically active, and most powerful pro-gun opponents. Thirty years later, "shall not be infringed" is still not even on the negotiating table. They continue to fight against us every step of the way with every ounce of political power they can muster. I don't care about Elon's $44Billion. I'd rather see Twitter burn to the ground, leaving room for other trees to sprout and grow in it's place.

Except, in your analogy, only the left was allowed to own guns and now he's making sure the vast majority of the right can now own guns too.

It may not be everyone, and it may still be more restrictive than you care for, but he's actually moving the Overton window back towards the right. He's not simply allowing it to slip further left.

– dldeuce 1 point 66 days ago +2 / -1

My analogy was related to the 1995 concealed carry law and incremental laws since. No it wasn't that our political opponents got to carry, and then we did too. I agree. However, in 2008 when I got my CCW, I realized I could carry, but my wife couldn't. She wouldn't jump through the unconstitutional hoops to get it. Couldn't leave a gun in the car at work. Couldn't get over the fear of all the unconstitutional legal gotcha's that could get her in trouble, etc. etc.

So agree in part, disagree in part. The ccw law and incremental laws over the last 25+ years were better than 140 years of the total ban. But if I could have burned down the GOP political party in 1995, if I could do that now, why would I settle for that? Why should we defend the politicians when Texas 46.02 is still on the books? Why defend Musk on the same reasoning?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– Cetera 1 point 65 days ago +1 / -0

Why defend Musk on the same reasoning?

a) because every time someone accuses Elon of being compromised, he turns out not to be. He keeps moving the window to the right. There's no ADL on his advisory council, no advisory council at all anymore, etc, etc.

b) failure to understand that not everything can happen at once does not mean, nor even imply, that things will not eventually happen. You don't fight every battle in the war all at once. Ground must be taken, positions consolidated, logistics maneuvered.

c) because you don't have the option of burning down the GOP in 1995, nor overturning gun bans right now, nor having a better alternative than Musk. If you want truly free speech online, Gab is it. It is the ONLY option. Truth Social certainly doesn't allow truly free speech. Anything Google or Apple classify as hate speech is absolutely banned on Truth Social, and actively enforced too. That appears to no longer be the case on Twitter, which may make it even more free than Truth Social. This should be supported.

In theory, now apply that to a platform like Twitter that has had a decade of rules and regulations governing it. Elon is doing the right thing slowly rolling back restrictions and restoring people's voices. He even expressed that if Apple and Google see these moves he is making as a threat and removes Twitter from the app stores that he might be willing to develop his own phone and store so that he doesn't have to compromise in order to have that type of presence. He even has Starlink and doesn't need telecoms.

I think most people understand that. That doesn't mean he necessarily has bad intentions. All revolutions and shifts of power in the world are instigated by elites fighting other elites, and are often decided by how successful they are at gaining support or manufacturing consent for their cause. Don't trust him, but if we can get elites to do what we want, we should take that as a win.

How does him giving a voice to people who were silenced online benefit the ruling class? I believe he truly thinks he's doing good on a platform he has always loved using, and now owns. He doesn't need Twitter to make him money for him to be wealthy and he is taking a lot of shit for restoring conservatives to Twitter -- especially Trump. Antifa is threatening to attack Tesla locations over Elon suspending their accounts where they promote violence...again, a risk Elon could easily avoid by not doing something and responsible and (I think) good with Twitter. How does that benefit the ruling class?

All gov't contract awards and subsidies from all of Elon's companies together, lifetime, equal less than 5% of Elon's wealth. He's not getting rich off of the government.

The ability to share his prior tweets and videos, and statements made on other platforms outside of twitter, this is a win, because they cancelled him and cancelled us. I agree that Twitter is not a free speech platform and likely never will be, but I'll take the small wins. I don't really use social media. It's good that those other platforms exist, but they ain't going to go mainstream. It's the whole reason Elon bought Twitter instead of making his own platform. Sure it is still a problem, but there is a huge difference though between Elons "freedom of Reach" and Others. Others say that to mean they should be allowed to crush your reach not just for some but for everything you say. Elons way is to allow it but not force it onto others. It still will be there, it still will have reach, but it won't be shoved down peoples throats by Twitter. It is not the same policy by far, it is radically better than before even if it is not perfect.

Torba's statement has some points, but one major problem with his post is that it ultimately leads to an absolute singular way of life in society, instead of a simple free speech society where people can make their own choices in life. In the meantime, the FBI plays Gab like a fiddle while Torba says Jesus is King.

FBI? Oh, they see Torba as a threat and Musk as not?

Well maybe they're on to something for once.

Torba runs to the FBI with info, just like it was super easy for Anarchists to hack the site and get all the personal info of paid users.

Makes one wonder.

Torba lets you say. Huge numbers of network surveillance points, very few situations where people can be fairly frank and it's not always the appropriate forum. I think Mike Lindell has the much more forthright approach: Things can be made to happen by human action on a very quick basis if people are likely to uphold their responsibilities.

But wonder not if you harbor some illusions as to the inevitability that what's repeated most is actually what most affects human behavior.

Some people are SUPER angry about Elon Musk buying Twitter. But several good things have happened! TheNoticing is still usable/searchable as a hash tag, Donald Trump's account has been reinstated, much child porn has been blocked . . .

Things Are Better, even if they're not perfect.

Appreciate what has happened with Elon buying Twitter, but don't hold people as idols. Always understand that games are being played.

A thought occurred to me with Elon buying Twitter. What if someone asked him to buy it? What if certain people realized the US and societies in general were falling apart, and they realized that something could be done by getting him to buy Twitter?

The reality? Musk owns Neuralink, is deep in AI, and now has access to unlimited communications from people, which may in the near future all be funneled through his Starlink system.

Remember when Twitter made an AI to interact with people, and after two weeks it began crapping on riggers and faggots nonstop?

If Elon does the thing you're speaking of, it's gonna be hilarious to look at.

Truth Social has the same restrictions on “hate speech” as Twitter, so anyone who bashes Elon for it should be consistent and bash Trump as well.

My freedom of speech does not = my right to be heard.

With respect to Mr. Torba, it was not the numbers of listeners of Jesus, but the resonant and Truth of the message that Jesus provided to the flock...He drew into the sand, and spoke a different message of explanation to His disciples than to His followers. Truth trumps propaganda...sometimes it takes two thousand years to ram through the mental barricades constructed by the older sheeple.
