The entire point of the bill is to be able to take away a churches tax exemption if they refuse to marry a gay couple in a full on religious ceremony. So as soon as this passes the house expect a rash of faggots going after churches like they did the baker who refused to make the dildo covered cake for the faggots.

That was my position years ago. Live and let live; keep government out of this.

And then the movement said "no, up yours, every state and every private group must accept gay marriage as a legal right or else, and we will intentionally ruin you if you defy us." I'm thinking for instance of the cake shop in Colorado, and of the programmer who invented Javascript and ran Mozilla until he got "caught" privately donating to a completely legal PAC that opposed changing the CA Constitution to allow gay marriage.

And then it got more extreme from there. I'm less sympathetic than I was before the reasonable demands turned into insane ones.

They didn't let him politely say no -- so far as I know, he never cursed them out or anything. They sued him, and the moment the Supreme Court said it'd take the case, another group of protesters sued him, with the intention of never, ever ceasing to harass him until he got down on his knees and accepted he must actively support every leftist cause. So the situation isn't one where you can agree to "go about your day" if you're a business owner and you want to politely not participate in the LGBTP movement.

So to follow up on what I was saying, my inclination is to be libertarian and leave people alone, but that's being ruled out as an option. Same with abortion: I was more sympathetic toward allowing it before I saw some leftist refuse to say "yeah if the baby's born alive you obviously can't just kill it at that point". Same with race: I want to treat everybody equally but if the choice is to have my group be treated as superior or inferior, nothing in between, I'm not picking "inferior" willingly.

Life starts at conception. Repent and seek Christ.

If you actually knew the sordid details of how abortions are performed, you'd feel like vomiting and call for it to be banned everywhere, assuming you're a psychologically normal and empathetic person. That vulnerable child feels fear and a lot of pain.

Absolutely true. Thousand percent. I left such a church myself, and a denomination as a whole (Methodist). HOWEVER I finally found a real, true, unapologetic Christian church so I feel compelled to respond that they are still out there. Sadly few and far between, but still there --- and the kind who will be targeted by this legislation.

This is truly a sad development for Christian churches who haven't lost their way.

I had a former baptist preacher at my United Methodist Church when I was a boy, good guy. If we could hook up a generator to his casket, he'd be turning in his grave so much he'd be able to power at least 5 missions to Africa.

The United Methodist Church now is now into Sodom and Gomorrah. Jesus Christ himself could appear. tell the leaders of the church to repent from sodomy and they would look him square in the eye and tell him to fuck of and they'd start worshipping a golden calf.

No one- literally no one- cares what you or anyone else does in their bedroom.

What people care about is having what you do in your bedroom shoved in our face and our kids’ faces. And people do care about the government coming into their place of worship and telling them what they can and can not believe. If you don’t see how big of a problem this is, how scary it is, then you are not very bright.

I know the average IQ of the last two generations has fallen badly, but I guess I didn’t realize it had fallen this low that you can’t understand this concept.

But no- no one gives a shit what you do in your bedroom. Get over yourself.

It's not homophobic. Calling out wrong is what people are doing. Homosexuality is wrong. Its sinful depravity and its vile. People are fed up. People should have never been tolerant of sinful evil acts like homosexuality. Tolerance allowed this wrong to seep into every aspect of our society and once you allow evil of any kind any foothold it doesn't stop it spreads and corrupts. I am done tolerating sin.

The real church is in the home. It's believers gathered around the kitchen table reading scripture, eating meals together, looking out for each other, helping each other, and all pursuing discipleship with Jesus.

It's not in 501c3 organizations and expensive buildings with manicured lawns and a pastor who works two days a week.

If this passes, seeks to force churches to perform same sex ceremonies, and then SCOTUS does not immeadiately grant certiorari as soon as it comes up, I fear the worst will come even sooner than we already fear.

However, if the added language from yesterday remains, that "If approved, individuals or groups would not be legally required to provide services for a wedding ceremony or celebration if it's against their religious beliefs," then it may survive constitutionally

I would need to read the text of the bill to conclude that, but under general understanding as it relates to this, a church would have to continue its tax-exempt activity to avoid losing §501c3 status. That means they must continue to perform marriages, which under such amendme t would require only traditional marriages. Again I must read the text of the bill, after the amendments are through House process

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 3 ▼
– Auroraalpha 3 points 63 days ago +3 / -0

The Bill doesnt have provisions to keep it in place. That means the text is missing. Text amending the bill to ensure this is not done has always been pushed down by the Left. There is no way the House will vote for any amendment including this language at this point.

The Federal Government also has done this before, which means historical precedent will preside.

It will be no different than when they fancy talked their way around penalizing anyone who didn't get Obamacare.

They will find a way to punish churches that won't conform. They just won't be "required by law" to do the ceremony.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– heightnoise 2 points 63 days ago +2 / -0

This is vague to me, what is your understanding of "conform" if they need not perform ceremony or services?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 6 ▼
– Hades440 6 points 63 days ago +6 / -0

Part of what they challenged Obamacare on was a penalty for not having health insurance. They got around it by not calling it a penalty.

All I was saying is that even if the bill is changed to say that churches can't be punished for not doing gay weddings, they'll find a way to disuade churches from opting out and just call it something else so it's not technically punishment.

Another example would be when they "never forced anyone to take the vaccines" because they never put anything official on the books. They still found a way to force it on people without technically forcing people.

They play word games so they can do whatever they want and say they aren't doing it. Thinking that churches will be safe just because the bill says they can't be punished is setting yourself up to be disappointed.

The state regulating the administration of sacraments is a plain language, open and shut "law respecting an establishment of religion". I think, though, that churches (and their ministers and priests) could easily comply by no longer performing the civil part, the signing of the marriage certificate.

I personally don't think marriage (divorce or domestic arrangements) are the state's business, and it should just record and enforce written contracts with indifference to the number or characteristics of the parties involved. There's already plenty of contract law to cover co-ownership of assets and liabilities (including taxes). Spelling these out explicitly is only a positive.

Rev 6:9-11

9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.

10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?”

11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been.

If this is the same piece of legislation what it said it allows the IRS to attack churches for upholding traditional marriage it allows IRS to go after these churches tax exempt status which means they go after property.

That seems to be the smoke and mirrors protecting gay marriage while attacking traditional marriages and effectively going after persecuting religion.

With 80 billion dollars and 87,000 new IRS agents

Thought democracy was on the line here and they were supposed to pass abortion gift cards and stuff like that.

Christian persecution

Bill introduced that would allow the IRS to revoke tax exempt status to churches who stand fast on traditional marriage Christian persecution

@KamVTV: I got confused over the same sex marriage bill. It will allow the IRS, to revoke the tax-exempt status of churches that hold fast to traditional marriage. @RepMTG: Members like me vote NO. It’s not about gay marriage, it’s about Christian persecution.

At some point some of the states are going to figure out that the US needs them more than they need the US, and the union will shatter at this point.

Stuff like that is helping more and more states wake up to that realization.

It’s pretend marriage, faux marriage. To make them feel good about their sex perversion. Don’t get me wrong. I think the financial, tax, medicine and contract laws should certainly apply to people committed to caring for each other. But that’s a government/civil thing. It’s not marriage. To redefine marriage to include anything government wants to do to it is backwards. But changing history and the meanings of words until they are confusing, embarrassing and useless is what government does.

Supposedly this means states have to recognize any marriage that any other state recognizes. So that would probably include marriages where the state has no minimum age for marriage (usually so long as there is parental consent).

It's a bullshit distraction. Constitutionally, states already have to do this.

This law is squarely about assaulting private entities who don't want to acknowledge or participate in gay marriage. Everything else about it is a distraction from that.

Every law does the opposite of what the title implies, this is no exception.

This law empowers government to strip churches of tax-exempt status if they don't toe the line on gay marriage.

This will no doubt be very quickly be expanded to other forms of faggotry (pedos, child trannies), and then to general left-wing causes too ("climate deniers").
