  1. gubmint gives you and your homies $100 each for political donations
  2. one of your homies “runs for office,” everyone donates to him
  3. Homeboy hires you and all the other homies who donated to him to work for his political campaign, pays each $100, less his tax.

Newports and 40oz’s for all!

This is how it will go, and I guarantee you the end results will prove how stupid this idea was to begin with.

it's not even just that. they specifically did it in a far left blue City knowing that the Democrats vastly outnumber the Republicans there. so basically they sent a bunch of money to Democrats give to democratic candidates. another way that they laundered money taxpayer money

What will happen is that fake campaign donations will come in using the names of people who are dead, moved away, underage, or who just did not contribute. It's a money laundering scam.

Don’t forget filing fees.

Those could be a few thousand dollars, depending on locality and the office you’re running for.

This isn’t as easy as you think. It costs money to even register to run for political office. That’s how they keep the riff-raff out.

It's money laundering. We'll give you government money, but you can only spend it by giving it to us. You might want that money for dealing with inflation, gas, food or paying down your massive credit card debt, but the politicians are such self centered fucks they want to pretend that you just can't wait to give them more money that's already largely coming from your taxes.

In 1982 Robert Heinlein published a novel, Friday, with a balkanized United States and Canada where California was one of the goofiest 'clown nations' of all. All the 'nations' were in a constant state of war and pointless Antifa-style violence. Leader assassinations were commonplace, and electronic tracking and police corruption were endemic. It contains this sad but interesting quote...

"Sick cultures show a complex of symptoms . . . but a dying culture invariably exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. A loss of politeness, of gentle manners, is more significant than is a riot."

"This symptom is especially serious in that an individual displaying it never thinks of it as a sign of ill health but as proof of his/her strength. Look for it. Study it. Friday, it is too late to save this culture -- this worldwide culture, not just the freak show here in California. Therefore we must now prepare the monasteries for the coming Dark Age. Electronic records are too fragile; we must again have books, of stable inks and resistant paper. But that may not be enough. The reservoir for the next renaissance may have to come from beyond the sky."

From beyond the sky meant from space colonies (which existed already in that book universe). But there are none today. I never thought I'd be living in the fringes of this bizarre world.

Think about it for a second though. We owe the idea at least a reasonable hearing on it's merits. Right now, our political system entirely controlled by ~400 families who happen to be the nation's richest and most capable of dumping large sums of money into campaigns. Small dollar donors never generate the kind on influence to demand changes to party platforms or to truly select their own candidates. We just watched this with Murkowski in Alaska. The big money funded the GOP and the RNC. McConnell then spent that money to destroy Tshibaka, her MAGA opponent. Small dollar donations couldn't defeat big corporate money. And it's true all over the country.

So, if you stand on the principle of representative government, it would seem rational to redefine the election system in such a way as to give the average Joe a bigger voice. By giving every citizen $100 which can only be spent on political donations (major caveats here), you improve democracy by allowing more people to participate in the political process. The taxpayer foots the bill for this because it is in the taxpayer's interest to be represented by the people's choice and not the corporations' or the political parties' choice.

That's the argument for it. And it's worth considering.

The arguments against it are numerous and I'm sure others will make them. The most convincing for me is that this is not the proper role of government. Nor will $100 offset a $1 million donation from Soros. You'd need 10,000 such donations to do that. We're attempting to play a losing numbers game, and there's major issues with ensuring that money isn't squandered or embezzled. In fact, it seems like government sanctioned money laundering if you happen to be in a deep red or deep blue uncontested district.
