Movie production follows a years-long development cycle. What we're seeing now got the green-light 2-3 years ago as the floodgates of this era of unfettered Can't Say No To Diversity/Equity/Inclusive-Messaged movies truly opened and hit a new generation of younger, woker studio execs who are so far into The Message that they don't actually give a shit about profit. They'll fall like dominoes but for everyone one that can't avoid the fallout of an expensive failed woke project, five more are ready to take their place.
And as Iger's triumphant return proves--seeing as it was specifically done to stop Chapek's mild bid towards neutrality, plenty of studio brass are OK with this as well.
Of course, Chapek was also trying to use the tech sector's staffing bloodbath as cover for some deadweight house-cleaning at Disney, too, but the dead-weight were all Diversity Darlings, and when they cried foul, Chapek had to go.
Even studio brass aren't fully immune, though, yet when they too fall, those woke midlevel execs will eventually ascend and then even the boards won't be able to stop the studios from financial disaster after disaster as they attempt to produce bland "risk-free" (obviously, there is no such thing) major budget spectacle tentpoles to underwrite everything else. But Disney is already filling their tentpoles themselves with woke content, too, and the wells are all getting poisoned one by one.
Interesting days ahead for what remains of mass media culture.
