Meanwhile, in Stockholm and Göteborg you have metro, trolleys, buses, bike paths and many other ways to get to the train station, and you'll go from city center to city center. The station is close to everything and land value nearby is very high. These cities also have mixed use zoning, not just offices, or commercial, or residential.

Fracne has their TGV high spped train and I'm a fan. If you buy ahead of time you can get a seat cheap - it's almost as fast as an airplane - and you don't have to go through the damn TSA pat down your crotch by some guy you never want to meet in your life.
You stand on the platform breathing normal air (and no screaming kids, loud announcements, etc.) and then 1 minute before departure the guy blows the whistle and you jump on the train.
MUCH more pleasant than US air travel for any airplane trip 2 or less hours.

If you've been there, you will understand that this map is wrong, and europe is even closer together than pictured, making it even more optimized for trains and the difference even starker.
Europe is 1.04 the size of the US with a population only twice as big. Most of it concentrated down on the continent. The Nordics makes up much of the space of rural western US, and even they have high speed trains.
