I felt the same way until I read his collected works for Politico. This poor guy made his career contributing to the chorus of Orange Man Bad. I would expect him to be terribly depressed. He was either suicided or proven himself to not be a psychopath.

There are so many options for a depressed person that has resources instead of traumatizing his wife and children for the rest of their lives.
Again, so many people have depression but understand they would not want to put their family in that position. He had plenty of other options to deal with that mental illness. He was selfish instead.
Also it has worked in Japan to slow suicide by train because the government would fine your family for the emergency services, delays in transportation, etc.
But then again they actually have honor and give a shit unlike most of our ‘residents’.
