I am so stridently AGAINST using any drug or excessive alcohol use. When I drink it's one and done. Usually these days it's none.

Why would it have been poison? Past peoples weren't plain stupid and were much closer to the land and basic survival. They could follow animal trails to springs and other sources of decent freshwater. People present day can drink river and creek water in some places if their digestive systems are used to the local microorganism mix. I don't think people were just dropping dead drinking out of scummy puddles otherwise throughout history. There was no industrial pollution, sure some agricultural pollution in areas but nothing compared to recently. Perhaps yes in some ancient cities this could be a problem, but again most cities are founded on rivers and many ancient civs had impressive plumbing and aqueduct systems. This "fact" has never made any sense to me and I don't buy it.

A lot of hiking, and I have (riskily) drank spring/creek water high up in the mountains in the Appalachians and and river water in the Alps in Slovenia. I didn't have problems, but giardia is always a risk. I'm sure my guts are a lot more sensitive than people from hundreds or thousands of years ago. I forgot to mention that ancient people could also dig wells as long as they were keeping latrines far away and downhill. I'm no expert on any of this, but this whole notion of water being deadly so everyone just drank beer all the time never made sense to me, and more like a fun pop history theory that a lot of people took as gospel some years ago.

I drink rarely, but enjoy a glass of wine occasionally. I decided drugs weren't for me in high school, I had enough problems. I don't care what other people do though, unless they're clearly addicts, and then I steer clear. I have many people in my life who can have the occasional drink or pot, and they're fine. I just avoid cultural things that are centered on either, because you by it's very nature run into more addicts. And, I'd be a complete hypocrite to judge others, because I smoked a long time, and enjoy caffeine in the coffee form.

We're beyond a couple. Literally hundreds of prominent famous people have died in just the past few years. Some of them were old AF, but the vax is definitely what got them too.
