Military and police are very similar. We love to hate on them, but there really are a lot of very competent and brave lower level enlisted, and they are almost never the ones who get promoted. They get pushed out. The dogooder rule followers and females stay in and get commands. It used to be that you got in trouble and had to spend the entire day in the hot sun digging a hole, then fill it in at the end of the day. Then back to the unit, lesson learned and forgotten. Now, it’s paperwork. They hit you with articles if you fall out of line our out of their good graces. They tell you nothing about due process under the UCMJ. Your commanders happily use coercion. And now you lose rank, pay, put in restriction (which is fucking hell), and fuck any chances of a future career in the military. It’s fucked. Then they kick you out with no civilian licenses or degrees so you have to pay someone to teach you all the shit you just spent 4 years doing so you can do it in the civilian world.
It also helps that the British did a bang up job making it appear like the landing would happen elsewhere and 1941 Army Airborn were big dick swingin killing machines.
Because some jerk off couldn't make a command decision.
"Let me get back to you on that" Leaves Bagram and retires

I've been there. Ready to kill a convoy of ISIS, we were set up and ready.
Command told us to wait.
So we watched the convoy, Set up 3 new kill areas, with zero collateral damage (the middle of the Deseret at night)
They rolled through all three areas, no clearance, then they made it to mosul and dispersed in the market.
Command denied my ability to stop hundreds of isis reinforcements. The reason.... someone didn't want to wake the general
Have the general wake up to that for his morning report
Sounds like one of the stories why the D Day invasion was so successful. They didn't want to wake or bother Hitler.

It was intentional.
The fucker up the chain who hesitated or those or waited for approval should fucking hang.
I've got bad news for you...
