Biden admin plans to reduce milk allowance for families in WIC program, substitute soy-based products
The Biden administration recently proposed a rule for the United States Department of Agriculture that could reduce the amount of milk available to families participating in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. To su...
Family members with three little ones were using WIC for a little while but found it incredibly invasive and also useless if you wanted to eat anything healthy. Mountains of sugared cereal available but you couldn't have the plain, that sort of thing. When they started requiring in-person "interviews" with all of the children present and wanted BLOOD SAMPLES from both kids and adults supposedly to "check to be sure they aren't anemic" they refused and decided to dump WIC.
I’d rather see local food banks beefed up than go the fed route. If everyone donated to your local food bank each year, communities would be better off.
I need to remember my local food bank this summer when I have too much produce.
Good for you. What do you grow if you don't mind me asking.
Oh lots of stuff, mostly what we eat and a few new things for fun. Asparagus and herbs are usually my first crop, Lettuces and cabbage, tomatoes, squash, peppers, Pumpkins. I did eggplants last year and they did great but my family didn't like them. Adding fruit to the yard, we have a apple tree, and I am working on blueberries.
If you find someone has issues with arthritis and joint stiffness or discomfort look at those nightshades - tomatoes peppers eggplant potatoes. Public Service announcement 😉
So true! My old mom flares up every summer from the deluge of tomatoes she grows. Fresh tomatoes for every meal! Last year I roasted, pureed and froze most of her tomatoes for her to use throughout the year in chili and stew.
I'm just now dipping my toe into gardening this year. I've started a few tomato and pepper plants, and will pick 2 or 3 more veggies to add to a 4x8 raised bed I'm going to setup.
Potatoes and green beans are also good beginner plants.
Green onions are a fantastic plant for anyone to start growing. Requires very little space (a medium size pot is perfectly adequate), needs little maintenance, survives extreme heat and cold, can be bought cheaply from the grocery store for starts, they look nice and they grow fast.
You sound like my wife and I. We've got asparagus also. It's pretty easy to grow. We also grow tons of okra. We're developing our own hybrid.
I have a family member who goes to one non stop to avoid having to buy food....
Me too, most people don't realize they throw it all out if they can't give it away. I started going when the scamdemic started, all that restaurant food because they were all closed, it's been steady ever since.
Poor people are generally on welfare and prefer to buy good food with their SNAP benefits at fancy stores, I see almost all middle class people at my local food bank.
I’d pass the local food bank every Saturday morning during 2020, and the line was so long it would be off the property and down the highway. They had police to direct traffic. The one thing my wife and I always noticed was not a single person in line drove a crappy car.
There are food banks, and there are food banks. Meaning the government ones are busy and usually require proof of being poor. There are dozens of church and community based food banks for every government one, and they don't require any proof of anything. They are usually located in small towns outside of the cities, and have more food than they can get rid of. It's not uncommon for them to put pallets of food out by the road during the week so they have room for more on the weekends...TV showing huge lines of people starving is fake...I haven't bought bread or chicken in 3 years, canned goods (usually #10 cans, the big ones nobody wants) for years. Left over school lunch food, milk, fruit, veggies, etc. in the small containers are so plentiful I haven't had to buy any in years...Fresh apples or leftover McDonalds Happy Meal apples I make apple butter with...quarts of cream I make butter...how anybody is starving in the midwest is beyond me...I have 40 lbs. of chicken wings and another 30 lbs. of chicken quarters I need to do something with. And Tomorrow is Saturday, so another go-round of food...Still have 15 lbs. of cream cheese I need to do something with. God Bless America!
Huh. I've not used them.... I just buy in bulk and use 3 year old pasta.
Me too, but I don't buy...I get it all in bulk for free...I have so much spaghetti it isn't funny...The restaurant food is usually in bulk so I divide and vacuum seal. Every meal we price out, If we eat <$3 we are sticking it to the man...The weird thing is, we used to go out to eat all the time and put everything on credit cards...Got older, got debt free, and now it's like a challenge to not spend money. Alternative economy....
I like that idea. I will do the same with my produce as well. I'm always giving it away if I don't have time to prep and freeze or can.
Sir,
That’s White America. We left there about 20 years ago and have been getting browner and gayer these days.
It’s probably got a lot to do with LGBTQ. According to a 2011 study, soy-based infant formula contains high levels of isoflavones. These estrogen-like compounds have been shown to induce changes in sexually dimorphic behaviors in animals exposed in early development. It’s the soy that contains the isoflavones.
Early-Life Soy Exposure and Gender-Role Play Behavior in Children
Not to mention at the food banks here you'll only see junkies and as they walk away past my work you'll see them literally throwing away stuff like pasta and rice, you know, things that require cooking because it's too inconvenient for them

I used to feel bad for addicts
I’m too old now
Half my mind says treatment. Other half says gas
Gas is a treatment
I donate to our local food bank all the time. I'm thinking about starting one in my community for food security and then use that to offload excess as donations to the food bank for charitable giving. This way we have an actual emergency supply of food to distribute here in the neighborhood. First we hit our supply goal of stored high shelf life goods. Then we can begin to rotate that stock while giving much of it towards the general food bank.
That's the idea anyways. I'm pretty good at getting people organized for this kind of thing. If I can work out the logistics I can share that here and then at that point will have done more common good than that fucktard Dork Brandon who threatened us with food shortages then walked off the stage.
If the government didn't take 1/3 of my paycheck and send it to Ukraine I would be more willing to donate old stock.
WIC and food banks serve different purposes - WIC is there for some genuinely expensive baby foods and the like. That kind of needs to be means tested.
That being said, food banks absolutely should replace EBT. The food that people who are struggling need is fresh vegetables. They are somewhat pricy, and damn near impossible to justify buying if you actually budgeting.
People can afford bread, rice, flour, beans, vegetable oil, and the other staples, along with salt and pepper. People find a way to afford a meat of some kind because people just want meat that badly. 3 dollars for a cabbage though, that gets cut out
The best solution I know of is to have a refrigerator of the leftover vegetables from supermarkets open for anyone to grab, monitored for property damage but that is it. Now this only works if you have a somewhat moral society, which is the case in small town Wyoming for instance, but it absolutely works here.
Though as just a matter of guaranteeing food, I would have no problem with a box of dry goods being given to anyone that asks, up to the diet of a medieval peasant - 20 pounds of grain, 10 pounds beans, 5 pounds dry eggs, 5 pounds milk, quart of veg oil, spice pack, some recipes, and delivered to your front porch via USPS tied to your SSN
Vegetable prices going up is definitely creating a bubble that will pop.
When the population goes hungry, riots eventually follow. Indeed, I would say America's level of general comfort has contributed to the passivity of its own destruction because people are, by and large, kept just comfortable enough that they can eat and afford something for themselves once in a while, but not so comfortable that they can eat better or invest the time to find what they like / can tolerate, learn to cook it and actually cook it.
I haven't bought eggs in a minute but I think we were almost up to $8 when I last checked.
Some of these low carb plans want to eating like 50 eggs a week (only slight exaggeration), for those prices I could eat like a king at Taco Bell -- again, slight exaggeration.
If you are working a job that requires 12-24 hours of your attention, I can definitely see why people would opt to go for the cheap, tasty shit that takes a few mins and almost no effort.
Again, called this motherfucking hyperinflation as soon as the steal went through. Advised everybody here to start networking with discharged veterans and form militias, start volunteering in exposing voter fraud and publicly talking about it and that the regime was illegitimate, and in general not going down without a fight.
Instead, mental gymnastics about how "ackshually, this was the Boston Massacre equivalent so we're just like the Founding Fathers, we're going to sit on our hands for 7 more years." Bending the knee constantly, "WE HAVE TO CUCK TO YOUTIBBZ AND TWATTER AND ALL THE SOCIAL NETWORKS THAT WANT TO KILL US BECAUSE WE'RE ADDICTED, LOOK ELON THE DIPSHIT BOUGHT THE LATTER SO WE HAVE TO WASTE OUR LIVES ON IT NOW." Whining about how super obvious false idols like DeSantis and Cucker Tarlson "betrayed them." Adopting third grade bully mindsets in picking on black people and mentally ill men as easy targets, since taking out an old crinkly man like Klaus Schwab is too hard, dude. Defending Demonrats over and over, then wondering why Trump never did the hardlifting in freedom fighting for them.
It's really no surprise that once the coup started fucking with the gibsmedats that people are NOW considering revolution. Shit like this, like daring to tolerate the past two, now coming to three years of tyranny, is a grave reminder that most of you lack inner thought, that you lack conviction and compassion for others.
Eggs $3 here and $4 for free range backyard chicken eggs.
Blood tests?! wow
WIC stands for women infants children, and is very milk based, baby food stuff, juices, oatmeal... It's not designed to be a sub for food stamps. All the food is baby-oriented, up to idk, toddler age? It's been quite a few years since I was a grocery cashier in high school. It's very specific foods.
In theory, yes. In practice a lot of it makes no sense nutritionally but instead is obviously being pushed by lobbyists who have arranged government deals for their products. There were a few good things, such as juice, cheese and some select baby foods but it wasn't worth having the kids in any government dna database.
I couldn't agree more!
iirc, the mothers who got WIC were also likely to pay with food stamps too. I'm not sure why there's even a separate WIC, but i'm sure they have their 'reasons'! Your theory about lobbyists makes sense to me.
WIC is specifically to bolster nutrition for development in pregnancy and early childhood when nutritional deficits can be most detrimental. Food stamps can be spent on almost anything, infamously ben and jerrys, steak, lobster etc. Even if some of the stuff doesnt make 100% sense, thats all you can buy, and includes stuff like milk, eggs, bread, canned fish, juice and fresh produce.
My wife gets Hella good vegetable and fruit options for how little she eats. Meanwhile my 4 month old eats more formula than the wic allowance. Sometimes I wish I could trade more formula for less cheese or veggies
Tried, couldn't produce and the hospital ga e her the wrong pump which caused inflimation so what she was producing wasn't extracting. It became so stressful for her that it was causing her breakdowns.
Free eggs and milk can go a looooong way.
I support the idea of a box of dry goods being given to anyone that asks, giving roughly the diet of a medieval peasant - 20 pounds of grain, 10 pounds beans, 5 pounds dry eggs, 5 pounds milk, quart of veg oil, spice pack, some recipes, and delivered to your front porch via USPS tied to your SSN. Given some choice within those parameters - the 20 pounds of grain can be in 4 5 pound bags of... potato flakes, corn meal, flour (all purpose white/whole grain/semolina), rice (brown or white), oats (rolled, steel cut, quick), barley, or rye up to the persons choice
Deliver via USPS and tie it to their SSN
Bold of you to think they'd have a SSN.
I want US citizens fed, legal permanent residents should be able to support themselves*, and illegals should starve.
*I believe in exception for true refugees, only valid refugees in the US with any numbers are cuban refugees
I hope and dream of the day we could see such a thing.
Don't underestimate the healthiness of rolled and steel-cut oats. I would drop the quart of veg oil and switch it for butter, but I agree. I used to hand out "government cheese" in Louisiana during volunteer events. That's when I realized they're all driving Tahoes while I have some 20 year old station wagon and eventually stopped doing it.
Yeah, that diet can be damn healthy, the goal is to be as inexpensive as possible, not to provide a horrible diet. As for why I said vegetable oil, I want this to be shelf stable - that is why I said powdered milk and powdered eggs too, I prefer butter but I dont view that as some obligation to be given. Shelf stable makes logistics easier.
And I would expect the majority of this to be given to people that dont need it - I helped out with food pantries myself and saw that exact phenomenon. Thing is the harm from not having enough food is way more than the cost of giving out food so I still support efficient programs here. Each of those boxes could be delivered for 50 dollars if the government was being reasonably efficient, but lets say it is 100 because of idiots and bureaucracy - 1200 a year for someone abusing it? Yeah, honestly not that big of a deal relative to malnourished children/the mental effects of food insecurity
At some point though don't the healthcare costs come back to haunt us? Canola oil, sunflower oil, "vegetable oil" etc. have been identified as great shelf stable items. But more and more in cheaper food they become the main ingredient moreso than the preservative. I understand the most difficult task of healthy nutrition to everyone is logistics. But if everyone is eating cereal chock full of these nasty oils, even the "healthY" ones, or sugar, or corn syrup, etc. Oats are pretty good. Beans are pretty good. Eggs, and milk, although I dont know the nutrition profile of powdered eggs etc. On a side bar, my children attend a military funded daycare center and they only serve eggs one day a week. Assuming eggs are powdered, is that cheaper than what they do get served... which is cereal or waffles with sugar soaked fruit. This has happened in more recent years under Biden. He is literally sending in his units to change nutrition for the entire populace of the country one institution at a time.
Honestly I am not that worried about vegetable fats from a nutrition perspective. It is mostly the sugar. Which is why I did not include any sugar in any form in this.
As far as it not being the main food, that is why it is only 5% of the calories I listed.
Powdered eggs are not cheaper than sugary junk, they just work about as good as regular eggs for anything scrambled if you know how to cook them right.
Make a "dry stable, water moisten-able, food-stuff that makes it's own gravy"
Type of food with a shelf life measured in DECADES!
Make sure it has all the vital nutrients that if you had to you could life an entire lifetime on it alone ( along with water ) and make several different "flavors"
Then start rotating stock and build up enough of a supply in each state to feed that entire state's population plus 1/2 the population of neighboring states for the next 100 years along with water purification equipment that will work for 100+ years as well.
Feed our poor this emergency food.
Feed the people who need emergency foreign aid it too.
Rotate the stock using the poor and foreign aid as a way to clear stock.
DONE!
That is exactly what my plan is. When I said a spice pack, I dont mean salt and pepper, I mean some actual spices like knorr tomato bullion or lemon pepper seasoning - cheap spices but flavorful. Though realistically you arent going to get more than a 10 year official lifespan or more than a 5 year stockpile built up. Each year of food is going to be roughly 120 million tons, put into 100,000 square foot warehouses with 40 foot ceilings and a 35% utilization rate (that is very high), that is 4700 of those warehouses per year of food
one warehouse per 70,000 people per year of food reserves - or for 100 years that is one warehouse per 700 people, which gets a bit absurd
I wonder if the food was made like ultra compressed bricks, think boulium cubes how it could be squeezed down....
Not enough to matter significantly
How about get the Federal Government out of the food monopoly business and push it back down to a community level?
Discussing solutions that include a SSN and Federal distribution is kicking the same can down the same road.
Good. It should be discouraged unless absolutely needed. If they could just opt out and be fine, they shouldn’t have taken it in the first place. Too many lazy/greedy people view difficulty as impossibility and take the easy road. As soon as the easy road has some potholes and speed bumps they abandon it and find their way back to the road to independence. Fuck your family for taking the easy road and god bless them for getting back on the road to independence!
It wasn't an easy route at all, but a series of events they had no control over that threw them into the ditch - they've only survived because relatives have kept them safe and she only signed up for it after a lot of pressure from others to do so when they literally couldn't afford diapers or formula for a time. Church food boxes were very valued as well. They are still living on a shoestring, but at least they do have that and are trying to get going again.
the amount of evil my tax money facilitates is always shocking
Two thoughts here. Get off the government tit, this will only weaken those who suckle those tits
My first thought was this is what they are trying to force all of us into eventually in a 100% command control economy. You vill eat ze cricket powder soy cake and you vill be happy!
My thoughts as well. Weaken the already weak and continue to thin the herd. They got their votes and don't need them anymore.
yea right this is going to make fat anchor babies with 9 fat siblings
Soy vs milk doesn't match that statement fren. Give all the freeloaders the trash while we eat clean. Granted they shouldn't get shit at the end of the day anyways. This is all so tiring...
Turns out government tits produce soymilk 🤢
Meanwhile, the DICK program is stealing our tax dollars
The U.S. government is our enemy.
Yes, it is.
They've been the enemy for over a century.
Sure sucks to depend on the government.
Soy based products should be the only product allowed for those on WIC.
And bugs. Meat is so expensive because they don't care what it cost and will pay the price. The lazy parasites are eating like kings.
WIC gives way too much milk, but also gives stupid shit such as high sugar content juices and cereals. You can't even get the healthier options.
Couldn’t care less. 90% of the people on there don’t deserve any free shit, let alone probably drive a nicer car than you and don’t speak English.
Soy Milk is not a nutritional replacement for milk despite how people use it.
Absolutely true. Low-quality protein, and zero sat fat. Probably added oils. Yuck!
Little kids need WHOLE MILK, not 2% and not skim! They NEED whole milk.
Babies and small children need milk fat in order to grow normal brains. Looks to me like they want even more dumb kids in this country than we already have. 😐
I remember as a kid the government in my area was just starting out controlling what kind of milk you could buy with food stamps. My mom had a doctor's note stating that my brother and I had dietary needs and absolutely had to have whole milk. Our entire family struggles with maintaining a proper weight and we have high metabolism problems. It was especially bad for us as kids.
The government decided to ignore our doctor and require us to drink skim while on food stamps. We looked emaciated due to the government deciding that they knew better than our doctor. That lasted about 4 years, through the end of 3rd grade for me.
This, and my mother's chain smoking habit she didn't stop even while pregnant, which subsequently quashed her hunger and minimized her nutritional intake, are the reasons I cite for why my body is as poorly built the way it is. You can tell I don't come from a healthy background. I'm absolutely resentful because of it and do what I can to be as healthy as I can now, but I can't undo the damage those two did. You can tell at a glance that I come from "poor stock" in society.
Government needs to be kicked the hell out of these things. Get rid of the programs entirely if they're going to go the road of harming kids with poor dietary choices. Well, simplify that. Get the government out of it, period.
Could you possibly have put heavy cream in your milk or was that not an option? (Money wise or otherwise)
Cream was only for mom's coffee and that was a luxury expense that she FOUND ways to make happen for her daily coffee pot. She'd never consider giving it to us and she hadn't even thought of it. This is the first I'm actually hearing of that as an option. The doctor never mentioned it and she has always said there was no other option to the virtually watery "milk" that is skim milk. It's why she's more than happy to rant about this to this day. She felt like she was 100% not in the wrong.
Wow, that's too bad. Adding heavy cream definitely does the trick when only lowfat or skim is available. I'd think cream could at least be bought with food stamps, but not WIC, I guess.
Look into the Atrizine in even the food given to rich people - it is the root cause for low estrogen levels. The fluoride and chloride in the water poison and lobotomize us. The aluminum particulates put into the air causes cognitive issues. Don't put all the blame on your parents - even the rich ones drinking out of water bottles are poisoning their kids with the phalates from soft plastics.
It's nut juice.
Expect more kids to be gay and ill
yup
You forgot to mention fake
Probably half the point.
Yeah, I’m sure soy milk is cheaper for tax payers /s
In the military I had a co-worker E-4 (white) who had 3 kids who did not qualify for WIC, and an E-5 (Interracial - Black military) who had 2 kids did qualify for WIC. BTW every military base has a WIC office. People should realize the military is overpayed and double dips on benefits and value.
Overpaid? HA. Double dips? Sure.
What, you mean you pay taxes like you earn 25k a year while your total earnings are that of someone making 90k?
Prior service here. When i was in europe i made approx $100k a year and got TDY cash as well. The COLA was nuts at the time i was there. I filed a tax return for 32k. I qualified for all sorts of aid since we have 4 kids, but my wife and I refuse it because nothing is really 'free'. Im out now, and we still refuse aid and never will. My co worker who had one newborn, same rank, and a wife who worked tried to get that govt tits asap. I was glad he got denied. Some are real benefit whores.
I dont think a lot of people realize how much the benefits actually are. As an e-5ish you can make 50-70K depending on other minor factors. But you can claim you make substantially more based on having "free" healthcare, education benefits if you use them, etc. You can use this when applying for loans etc. Then when tax season comes around you claim you make next to nothing and get huge tax benefits. This is as an enlisted. The O-core makes hand over fist cash monies and the majority of them spend their entire day in meetings and signing/routing documents. They aren't actually leaders in any other capacity than their position.
As a former E-4 I can verify this, sadly. I never really spent my salary and ended up reinvesting that and some of my TSP into my current business.
It still leaves a bad taste in my mouth that recruiters keep going back to the GI bill to lure gullible kids in. I can sniff out stolen honor when they heap on praise on the recruiters. Recruiters were basically the trash that couldn't be discharged, all my mates and I dumped on them constantly.
You can't actually lead due to DOPMA, actual leaders get punished. It isn't up or out, it is make a single mistake and your career is over
USN 59-83, mustang who ended up having 8 kids, I am very familiar
...because Soy makes them Gay.
WIC shouldn't excist but as long as it does, this can't be allowed. Biden have stock in soy?
I've always thought there were invasive special interest groups buying out congress members, putting their fake ingredients in all our foods.
Ever wonder why something as innocuous as a sleep aid has synthetic sweeteners added to it?
And It's gotten worse- GMOs in everything.
Soy has to be the same deal.
Government could cut back sweeteners to a reasonable level to compare to the rest of the world but they don't. It's clear government doesn't work in our interest, most especially in the food sector.
The other day I went to get frozen burritos and they all have this one ingredient I didn't recognize so I looked it up,
Sodium Aluminium Sulphate. It causes Alzheimer's no joke. So I say forget it and go get tortillas to make my own, all the tortillas have this ingredient too. So I guess I'll make my own tortillas because that must be where they put it.
Eat the bugs; coming soon to a food voucher program near you.
The whole program should be scrapped and tax-payers should have their taxes reduced.
Farm state critters on both sides of the aisle depend on the Farm Bill. White welfare.
Mothers can breastfeed their infants. Although if you're a Covidian vaxtard mother, feeding your kids that mRNA tit juice isn't exactly recommended.
Not all mother can though. That is the problem. If all mothers made enough milk it wouldnt be an issue. Some arent able to produce enough to keep an infant fed properly.
They want to create a new generation of people, sympathetic to democratic/leftist policies
Soy. The breakfast of limp-wristed faggots.
Soy products are chinese poison --- they convinced someone somewhere along the line that they are healthy.
China products come to USA in sea container. They fill those sea containers with soybeans and return to china for processing. dirty history how it all came about.
Every soy bean needs to be eradicated.
"It's got mRNA that Kids crave"
Wonder how much of a kickback he is getting from those soy companies. Their stuff is more expensive than milk
So the president of Mexico threatens the republican half of our uni party to vote socialist dem... But then Jim Crow Jow threatens to reduce milk on WIC which would send em back to the 'publican side of the coin. Policial tug of war haha.
Cancel wic and welfare as a whole. Don't allow wic to buy processed foods... Only raw ingredients.
Make a "dry stable, water moisten-able, food-stuff that makes it's own gravy"

Get those titties in those baby mouths conservative women, you'll get healthier babies and healthier adults. Stop with the vaccines too.
Yes.
Imported soy products from Chyna are back on the menu boyz!!!!!
...you realize that the soy they eat in China is grown in the USA?
Fucking hell now they are trying to turn the lot of them into soy boys. Don't do it. Soy is not good for children, it messes with their thyroid. Men should also avoid.
#endthefed
what a dick
Good. They can have it. Keep that soy shit out of white children's mouths.
Don't worry, white parents actually work. They don't qualify for food stamps. That's only for groids and beaners.
gonna make people smaller and the boys less manly
Soy is bad for you. It causes hormone imbalances. These people should be imprisoned for practicing medicine without a license. Remember thalidomide. That was the gov't to.
Soy is bad for you. It causes hormone imbalances. These people should be imprisoned for practicing medicine without a license. Remember thalidomide. That was the gov't to.
Gotta increase that estrogen level using soy so the men become low t an vote Democrat.
Bullies that beat up little kids and steal their lunch money. Same as it ever was.
Decades back, I worked in a supermarket. WIC existed back then. They had these ridiculous huge checks only valid for specific products, up to a specific dollar value. We had to fill in the dollar amount. Every single woman I rang up using those checks, and I mean every single one, was also on food stamps, was Hispanic, and had a man with her buying beer with cash.
Just as bad now.
I think they just need to just give out prepacked boxes of food,
Food that is past expiration date but not spoilage dates.
Fuck them, I used to buy food on fucking clearance when I had to keep my budget low....
Next come the cricket laced pizza dough, bread, and bread crumbs, fake eggs, fake meat.
We desperately need to bring back duels.
