And each set of grandparents were 1 man and 1 woman.
Why yes, only the most bigoted of bigots Sir!
You spelled biologist wrong.
I wouldn't know, I'm not a morphologist....
Something tells me Ilhan Omar's math is a bit different
One uncle - pappy.
Most importantly you need the Creator on that list, kids need faith along with parents!
But not with actual math...
4096 is the next level. Unless we took two out for some reason. Maybe they were LGBTGIQIRIB and didn't reproduce.
Add all of the numbers (ancestors) to get 4094… but then correct the passage to say 11 previous generations, not 12.
If they didn’t reproduce you wouldn’t exist.
Whoever put 4094 is just inbred.
Or they added up all the generations?
Power of 2 is powerful, if not actually Binary!
Ah. My bad. I forgot numbers could not be binary.
I can't remember what book it was in but it basically said that for you to be alive, right now, your ancestors had to have survived wars, plagues, little ice ages, and all kinds of other shit. I just had never thought about that deeply before. Our ancestors survived the black death!
And now we’re paying taxes to a government who funds research into creating the next pandemic, because somehow creating human pathogenic viruses is beneficial to treating those viruses. It’s amazing to think of all the great achievements in human history, and then we see too much of it being used for evil instead of good.
Yeah, I agree. But, I also look at it another way....how many of us lived through that... hell, I have more than that... I don't know a single person who got Covid, much less died from it. To me... it looks like "they" (whoever they is) tried to create something that would kill old and infirm people. And they succeeded. Then, they (whoever they is) created the vaccine to "hull the herd" (they need some one to mow the lawn and cook their food). That also failed with most of us.So, everyone of us still here needs a T-shirt that says "I survived the great murder of Covid" and on the back, it should say... I also didn't take that death shot.
Survived just long enough to have kids at least. I'm sure plenty of our ancestors didn't lead long happy lives.
Well, the kids survived the black death too and they are also our ancestors, so the statement holds. Anyway, it's another reason why having kids sooner rather than later is important. You never know what may happen while you wait around to "be ready."
exactly. Thank you for being more articulate than I am.
Contrast that statement with "wait to have kids, do your career first!". To be fair, you also have to say that our ancestors didn't EXPECT, nor did they feel entitled to long, happy lives. It was what it was.
Survivor bias. LOL.
You have to be alive to have bias. That's the point.

Cool but the thing I don’t like about it is none of them had you in mind. We aren’t a part of their special plan or selection. We are a byproduct of what they did to create their hopefully planned children. Most people don’t think past the next generation. So this is kind of silly. We either exist or we don’t. My point is the stars didn’t have to align for 4,094 ancestors for special little you to exist. Chances are it was rather sloppy, actually.
Sure the stars had to align. Doesn't matter whether the parents up and down the chain were planning it or not.
For all we know they'd be quite disappointed in us lol.
Mine would be disappointed in me for not being in the Mafia. Or proud. I’m really not sure now..
"hold my halal beer"
By the time you get past 4th generation, the chances are starting to get a lot higher that you have duplicate ancestors. So this is the maximum possible number of ancestors.
Yep. My parents are distantly related to each other from way, way back. I mean really distantly related. Like 12th cousins or something.
It's not at all uncommon for people whose ancestors arrived in the country before 1800.
Yeah, it boggles my mind to think about family trees because they eventually collapse on themselves.
I’ve been a genealogist since my teens and I’ve heard the same thing from the professionals, that’s it’s inevitable for one to have duplicate ancestors. Which is true in my family, too. On my mom’s side they lived in the same county or neighboring county since 1818 and, most with large families, many of the family married 3rd or 4th double cousins. On my dad’s side, one 1700s ancestor’s daughter-in-law was her cousin’s daughter.
And, tracing back to Adam and Eve, it narrows down the ancestry to duplicates even further.
Thank 4,094 people who decided not to be homos.
Go back more generations. Go back 50 generations. The number of grandparents is in the trillions. We all know that many people didn’t exist. We are all the product of a lot of inbreeding.
All of that work only to let feminism destroy civilization inside of a single century. Sad.
That garbage doesn’t apply now, just ask Buttigag and all those trannies having babies. Your post is hateful and bigoted and a threat to our democracy.
Kids these days think that nothing existed before they were born.
And you needed precisely 0 LGBT’s across all 12 generations.
Isn’t science cool!
Do one better and do the research to show the names of those in the family tree to your children. You will find interesting stories to tell them. Except for democrats. Democrats most likely have broken homes, criminals and slave owners in their family trees.
I’ve always been fascinated with this kind of stuff. Never tried any of that “test your DNA” bullshit (since I’m sure it’s a scam), but I talked a lot with my grandparents and paid attention to what they said.
My father’s father was descended from the Dutch who settled South Africa in the early 1700’s, one of the top guys in the Dutch East India company. Everyone in SA with our family name is supposed to be descended from this one dude who sailed the Caribbean, Jakarta, Africa, you name it. My grandmother’s maiden name was French Huguenot, she was descended from people who fled persecution by Louis XV. She also had a fuck-old letter, one of her most prized possessions, written by her grandfather or great grandfather about how he and his wife & children were spared by God at the battle of blood river (Google the story, it’s basically South Africa’s version of Leonidas and the 300).
On my mother’s side, her grandfather was an Irish immigrant who worked on the railroads down there, her grandmother escaped Poland with her siblings about a week after the Germans invaded. I met the old lady a few times as a kid when she was in her 90’s, she passed away when I was 13.
I’ve often wondered what it would be like if those animus machines from Assassins Creed were really a thing. I think I’d have a blast looking into the lives of my ancestors.
I'm descended from slave owners. Their children eventually became abolitionists and freed the father's slaves. My kids are descended from slave owners on both sides. Gotta have a more open mind than that.
I agree about Democrats generally though. ;)
True unless inbreeding occurred.
The further back you go the more overlap there's going to be, no one is descended from an infinite amount of ancestors
Narrator: "It did."
And a mass amount of people threw it all away with a jab in the arm because they were 'scared'.
Or decided to just be dog/cat moms/dads
It's very unlikely you have 2048 unique 9th great grandparents. There's some overlap. Think about it, otherwise there would've had to be like a trillion people on earth at the beginning of recorded history.
Interesting thought lrocess, and I think it checks out!
Heck I even saw in the news a month ago or something about this couple who realized they had great or great great grandparents in common when the families started talking at their wedding.
That’s why they said 4094 instead of 4096.
Fuck. I'm gonna need a larger diameter of wood for my family tree project.
I do know some of my Mexican and American family history and they were part of a lot of things from building missions in California to being in revolutionary and civil war battles in the Virginia and West Virginia area. Plus some moonshiners too so my family also helped form nascar. I know I’m related to some BAMF
Powers of 2 or expressed mathematically 2^n.
The purpose of sex is reproduction and reproduction is how a species survives or stays relevant in the context of space and time (exists).
Also, please remember to respect your elders even if they aren't kin (unless they give you reason not to). I feel as though that is something missing these days in modern society. The wisdom of the people who came before and experienced the past.
I love this one.
I love that. Thanks so much! I'm sharing it all over the place.
And then communism destroyed everything.
That's a lot of people.
And how many would say it was all worth it? I do all I do for mine & it’s been pretty rough lately. That’s the most complaining I’ll ever do about it. Well worth everything & more.
Life is definitely something good.
However.... the list of things above have nothing whatsoever to do with...
"What you do with the time that has been given to you"
That's what matters. I don't really care that much about my great great grandparents. They aren't here and their genetic contribution to my body is nearly zero -- unless I happen to be Jewish with the inbreeding.
Of course it is important what you do with the time given to you. That doesn't change the equation. It's not only life that is passed on, it's civilization. No one can give more than their life, but collectively, everyone is participating, for better or worse.
That's how wars are won. You die in the surf at Normandy so that others can storm the cliffs, and so on, and so on.
If everyone only cared about themselves, there could be no civilization. That (in my opinion) is the message of High Noon. You may have to sacrifice, but if you are sacrificing for the right things, it is meaningful now and in the future.
One, I think. If at least one of them is Native American you can put it on your college application.
Hey that sort of scales up like digital units. You know, the whole "binary" thing. lol
The unbelievable weight of centuries...
