Reminds me of when my son was working at an Amazon distribution center, and they hired a “covid safety team”. True story: my son and a girl were walking into the break room, and they were too close to each other. A covid safety chick (whom he described as a fat dyke) started blowing her whistle and shouting “6 FEET APART! 6 FEET APART!” There are metal guard rails close to the ground, to insure forklifts don’t get in the waking areas, and she was walking backwards for several feet as she yelled at them, tripped over one of the rails, smacked her head hard on the concrete, and fell unconscious. She had to be carried out of there and was never seen again.

From what I read, they totally mismanaged their risk chasing extra profit.
For many years, interest rates on short-term and medium-term bonds were close to zero, due to "quantitative easing". To boost their profit, they invested heavily in long-term (10+ year) bonds.
When the Federal Reserve jacked up interest rates in the past 2 years, those 10+ year bonds lost a lot of their value. (When interest rates go up, existing bonds lose their value, because you could instead buy a new bond with a higher yield.) All of a sudden, the bank was insolvent. They could theoretically have been solvent ... if customers were willing to leave deposits there earning 0% when they can get more elsewhere. Instead, customers withdrew their money, they were forced to start selling the bonds at a loss, and they were insolvent.
Unlike FTX, who tried to keep the scam running until the last dollar was gone, the FDIC stepped in and shut down the bank. This means that customers should recover a greater % of their money instead of giving 100% to customers that withdrew first and 0% to everyone else.
So the "bad risk" was overinvesting in long-term bonds. If they had a mixture of short-term and long-term bonds, they would have lost money on the long-term bonds but could have reinvested the short-term bonds for higher yield.

I worked with collateral and risk management, with a big bank. At the time, there were numerous risks that were unaccounted for. When identified, they were blown off. It was a bullshit exercise in bullshit in, bullshit out. So, this isn't surprising. But it paid well.

This isn’t just a bad thing for the business but a disservice to the potential employees. There is a limited number of who you can hire. If blacks make up 13 percent of the population and half of them are adults and half of those and of working age and capability your pool of potential black diversity employees is only three to five percent of the population of the entire country. How many of those people already have jobs? The majority let’s say. So all these initiatives are trying for sign into law diversity quotas with the potential employee pool being only 1 to 3 percent of our population. At the high end if you include none white Latino and Asians what 5 percent maybe.
The math just doesn’t add up for diversity initiatives and quotas. So what can we do oh wait leave the boarders open so we can get the diversity we need.

When my company started talking about diversity I thought they meant diversity in skills, which I thought was a really good idea. Imagine my surprise when I found out they meant hiring people based on race, gender, and sexual orientation. In other words, anything but straight white men. Just forget that the company was founded and built by straight white men and hire a bunch of idiots based on immutable physical characteristics.
