Depends. Maybe scandalous in some rural farm town. In the 1950s my mom was in Paris going to cooking school at Maxime's, a very old fashioned and very conservative institution at the time. And many of her dresses were in that style. And I know she wore them, with an apron to protect them in class, because I have the photos.
