A friend of mine had a drunk driver crash through his yard last year, damaging his house, taking down a fence, and totaling his wife's car. The drunk then fled the scene in his damaged but still drivable truck. My friend's security cameras were able to identify the drunk's vehicle, which was a company truck, and the police had no trouble finding the driver, but no charges were filed.
The police are not going to respond to everything nor write charges on everything they see. I don't understand why people think they do. This is where lawsuits need to be filed. The friends cameras hold all the evidence needed. There is no reason to put an incompetent middleman into the situation.
