I'm told that in parts of Pennsylvania, the people speak English with an Irish accent. Because c.1850-1900 a bunch of German immigrants arrived and worked as coal miners under foremen who were themselves recent Irish immigrants and still had the accent. So these were people lower on the totem pole than Irishmen.
(And both groups were working with a "company store" situation, with child labor, in coal mines. Obviously very privileged.)
Can confirm. My father's oldest brother was a miner and dropped dead in the street at a semi young age. By the way, I am from PA and am 73 years old, so do the math. Yeah, I want reparations not only for the Irish, but for the many ancestors I lost in the Civil War. One even died in Andersonville.
Although I could also go with no more Fed taxes, political term limits, an end to war, halving the fed budget each year until its extinction, an end to the UN, an end to WHO, WEF, stuff like that :)
Yep! A couple of other European immigrant groups did this too. I was reading an illustrated book of how very privileged they were. If you were 11 or so, you could graduate from picking rocks out of heaps of coal coming down a chute, with your bare hands in the winter, to get one of the cool jobs underground. To protect you from overly dry throat while manning the coal chutes they'd issue you some chewing tobacco.
I remember asking my father what the song about Moonshine was about.
He explained that these people were very poor, the only work available was hard labor for dirt wages in the mines. To avoid the mines they set up stills and sold their own liquor.
The mines got the Feds to go after them with a vengeance to destroy any ability to earn money other than mining. He then told me how he and his brother would make gin in their bathtub with their father during the depression.
He grew up in the Red Hook district of NY, born in 1917, his stories of the Depression would curl your hair.
Which is something to remember the next time some dumbass neocon drones on about Capitalism and muh "Free Market." We've NEVER had a free market, the government has ALWAYS been the enforcer of corporate interests.
Did you ever think to yourself "the Jamaican accent sounds a bit Irishy?" There's a reason for that. The first slaves to Jamaica were Irish Catholics. About 1.5 million Irish men, women, and children were summarily kidnapped and sent to the west indies in the early 1600s. In fact, in 1619 a group of Irish children landed in Jamestown months before the supposed first African Slaves. There is actually a pretty fascinating story about the early settlement of Irish in Florida too but at that time is was occupied by Spain.

I suspect there were Irish in those mines as well :)
The only privilege any of them received was to be first in line for Black Lung disease.

Why you are a spring chicken! I am 76 :)
And ok, I think reparations seem fair enough.

Hey, I like you old timer!

Yep, the Irish built the world if you think about it :)

Lol god that statement would put some people on suicide watch.
One can hope, far too many take themselves far too seriously :)
Fuck Oliver Cromwell, may he burn in Hell for all eternity.
Found Thomas Moreβs account.
[spez] wrong Cromwell. History was never my strong smoot. Imma leave it just to plug A Man for All Seasons (1966).
So you're saying all those middle eastern folks living in the Desert Southwest have just been slave shuffled there by the same folks ?
Ah, the "P" word. The left uses "privilege" to obfuscate the reality that children do better with both "parents".
People with so-called "privilege" are simply standing on the benefits of the hard work of their parents, and their grandparents.
Life isn't fair. Fix your shithole culture and your kids can be just like civilized people.
How dare you flaunt their white privilege like that!!!! I'm actually SHAKING right now!!!
Lol obviously privileged. Kek.
