People don't cook anymore and grab fast food, prepared meals, or takeout. Add in sedentary lives and constant snacking and you get fatz. I sit for my job and try to do walks, yard work, and have a rower to get exercise. I'm not an athlete but not a chunker by any means.
The sedentary lifestyle is the big one. My mother is 80 and tells me all the time how she grew up eating pancakes drenched in melted butter, oatmeal made with evaporated milk, etc. and no one, including her was fat when she was young. People today do very little physical activity and especially with the advent of the internet where people don't have to leave their homes at all - even to walk around a fricken mall or supermarket to get what they need, people might as well be welded to their chairs.
Yup. I love when they interview 100+ people and they say they're secret is cheap brandy and bacon. All my grandparents went downtown once they stopped moving every day. My retired parents just texted from their cabin and said they did a 3 mile hike. That's the stuff which will keep you alive. I'm ready for yard work and gardening. I'm outside almost every day doing something except winter. Probably volunteer to help with my son's baseball again this year. Side note, I also have a prosthetic leg. People are always saying I'm an inspiration. And I get kinda mad. Like why? I decided a long time ago I wasn't going to be "disabled" it's just and excuse. To many people play the victim for dumb shit. I've seen people in really bad shape and get shit done every day.
Agreed. It isn't the amount of HFCS or any other one ingredient that is the root cause - it is the excessive eating. Most people in the US could probably eat half of the calories they take in per day and function just fine.
HFCS is just glucose and fructose combined and you can find that 'table' sugar in everything in the UK as well.
Also, the UK and the US are two countries, among many in the West, that fortify their white flours with inorganic iron, fluoridate the water supply and push the shit you mentioned to the top of the food pyramid.
I was at spring break in college in the late 90's. Fat flaunting wasn't a thing. There were fat girls, but not many of them. It was still undesirable back then to let yourself get that fat.
This! We cook allot and know everything in our food. I have a son with several allergies and learned to cook things an alternative way. It's not hard.
You just can't be a lazy fuck about it.
Processed foods. "Vegetable" oil. Removing saturated fat and putting in carbs. Snacking.
I started keto about 1 year ago, with intermittent fasting, meaning trying to go about 16 hours from dinner until eating the next day. Easy to do with fat in the diet. Eat a big meal, and once your body relearns how to switch to fat burning, next day you won't be hungry until afternoon. First several days you have to just not eat.
Was losing a pound a day, which freaked me out so slowed down. But lost 20 lbs easily. Down to "normal" range on BMI, which I had assumed was impossible. Went from 2 blood pressure medications daily to smallest dose of one, maybe once a week.
Have to do weight training because the under skin fat gets reduced like crazy and it looks like you're losing muscle. But my chest and arms got definition without gaining muscle, which had never happened before even though I was much more muscular when I was younger. Never realized how much subcutaneous fat was spread around.
At the bottom photo. This is our society. What are you worried about the tyrants winning for? Can you imagine drafting these people into the army whether for war abroad or controlling people at home?
Crisco did this.I have been on a eat real food and fry shit in lard diet and have been loosing pounds like crazy. Real butter and eat the fat on the meat...who knew?? Oh and good cholesterol is up. bad is down.
Corn Syrup
And soybean oil.
Ya fried food is all in GMO soy oil. McDonald’s originally used beef tallow.
Obesity rates here in the UK are not dissimilar to those in the US and consumption of HFCS here is negligible.
It isn't HFCS, it's the shit that people eat in general.

The average American eats 14 times a day, can’t remember where I read that stat.

junkflation
I'd bet 1990 to 2024 would be a close pic to this. No need to go back to 1960.
HFCS was widespread by the 90s, making your predication seem unlikely. Maybe the early 80s before that garbage was everywhere.
I was at spring break in college in the late 90's. Fat flaunting wasn't a thing. There were fat girls, but not many of them. It was still undesirable back then to let yourself get that fat.
The 1980s would do it.
For sure
I feel like the list could go on and on.
I see ruski and polak drink much more excessively, it does have negative health effects but obesity is not high on the list
TV and fast food.
Parents stopped cooking

It may be the toxins like DDT that the people of 1960 were exposed to that led to them having morbidly obese grandchildren.

Endurance massively improved as well.
Degeneracy.
High fructose corn syrup
Can anyone look at 2023 and believe that those people are genuinely happier and healthier?
Liberals
Top pic is more like 1970 than 1960 to me

What's going on with pink bikini's right leg?
Elephatitis Externalis Extremis ... oh, I think I just threw up in my mouth.
The top pedicure is Americans. The bottom picture is aliens.

The hairstyles in the top photo look more like 1970 than 1960.
I was hoping the contrasting picture would be of blue haired freaks, other than being fat, these people look sane.
One picture is teens and the other isn’t. Also sugar hadn’t been inserted as a lard preservative replacement fully yet.
Women left the home to work & cooking healthy meals went by the wayside. Another result from the lies of feminism.
You can’t blame your obesity on women, lardass
sloth and gluttony
We were poisoned.
1965 Immigration act and rhymes with bike subversion.
