They're mad because the government pension system is broke and they can't retire early any more from their 4-day per week jobs.

Clearly you have never seen a double amputee French mime.

His material was that.. bad... Poor Gaultier... They made sure he never mimed again.

But he showed them... He mimes with his feet now. Little more difficult to understand when he gets to the rope pulling part as he has to sit down, he just looks like a jellyfish.

Early being the age of 62. They pushed through a change to 65 here and nobody batted an eyelid. They are routinely lowering our value of life and decimating our wealth and nobody is doing shit about it.

permalink parent save report block reply

– JLoonacy 30 points 6 days ago +31 / -1

In France, they changed the age from 62 to 64 using Article 49.3 of their Constitution, which allows the President/Dictator, Macron, to pass a law without having to have it voted on in the French National Assembly (basically their Congress). Macron did this because he knew he couldn't get it through the legislature. The change did not have widespread support by the people nor legislators. The excuse for raising the minimum retirement age was to ensure the solvency of the government pension, i.e. their equivalent of Social Security.

  1. It's crazy to me that France's constitution has such an article.
  2. All government pension systems are bad, because the money must be stolen via taxation, and are doomed to insolvency in any growing national population.

Thanks for the explanation, very helpful. Disclaimer first, I'm not American, was wondering if this is in any way similar to your Presidential executive order as those don't seem to require due process by parliament.

We have a sort of similar secondary legislative process in the UK with things called statutory instruments. These are orders issued by department Ministers and are not usually debated or voted on before being passed into law. It is used to fill in the details of Acts (primary legislation). These details provide practical measures that enable the law to be enforced and operate in daily life.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 6 ▼
– Friendly_B 6 points 5 days ago +6 / -0

Technically a Presidential "executive order" is just supposed to direct legislation in a passive way, suggesting a direction for the nation.

We've all forgotten about that, though.

It is. Why congress has allowed it to morph is crazy. It needs to be addressed.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– JLoonacy 2 points 5 days ago +2 / -0

Executive Orders are similar in that they do not need legislative approval, but as the other commenter points out, they have been abused more and more with each president's term. They are just supposed to allow the Executive Branch to carry out the application of existing law.

Also, certain powers are specifically granted to each branch of the U.S. government, and Executive Orders are not in the U.S. Constitution. The French Constitution, however, directly provides for the President's ability to override the legislature, from what I understand.

It's crazy to me that France's constitution has such an article.

Biden is doing the same thing here using Executive Orders. EO's were never meant to replace the process of creating laws or amending the constitution but that's what's been happening since at least Obama and possibly before.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– JLoonacy 2 points 5 days ago +2 / -0

I agree that he's overreaching using EO's but it's not part of our constitution. There's a difference.

▲ 1 ▼
– ChickNorris 1 point 5 days ago +1 / -0

you know, I didn't even register the fact that this was part of France's constitution. You're right, there is a difference. In the US there is just overreach and it's getting worse.

I don't see productivity in your math.

Aligning the economy means no more immigrants, useless jobs, bailouts, etc. You can further up productivity by getting rid of dumb shit like DIE jobs, for example. You can have more money to pay social security if you stop bailing out the shitty banks that keep fucking shit up.

The economy has also been centrally planned for a long time. Central banks cause that.

They will eventually switch social security to a means-tested benefit, making it essentially welfare.

Social security was passed as a "retirement plan", back when America was great and the idea of welfare was still unpopular - so the same benefits were given to everyone who contributed to it. Now that they've indoctrinated enough people into socialism, they'll change it to just another welfare benefit paid by the successful to fund the unsuccessful.

The problem is that French don't revolt for freedom invasion or stuff like that. They riots only to work less and less. When covid was there, there was barely anyone pushing against the abusive mandates. When doctors and such got fired for being unvaccinated, nobody cared. But hey, suddenly, you talk about retirement age, and everybody's in the street before you said a word. Same stuff for our education system, it's decades behind, but try to do any change to it and suddenly all teachers are out in the streets. Unbearable if you ask me. I don't really support Macron especially since the "Fuck the unvaccinated" part, but I don't support the other side either.

No. It's because the Communist 68 generation that voted to bring in the Third World, all had/has cushy paperwork jobs, don't want THEIR retirement raised. They also kicked the working class out of cities to big towers with tiny apartments way out, and raise the tolls and mass transit costs in the name of Globaloney Warming for the actual French workers, while regulating their pay flat for decades. Meanwhile housing in the cities where the jobs are and the commutes are shorter and cheaper are full of refugees on one hand, and International Rich Pied a Tierre housing on the other.

The French working class is being gouged just to get to work.

Now they want to raise the number of years worked far in excess of what the fat Socialist retirees had to do, and slashing the benefits per year as well.

The migrants are allowed in because we need workers to fund pensions, because we don’t make babies, because women don’t want the burden if they can avoid it, and men decided to let them do it to gain a temporary political advantage. Ain’t democracy wonderful ?

They're setting the stage for this here. For banks they have trillions, for SS they don't. It will start with the establishment Republican types like Mitch and Lindsey and get just enough "responsible" Democrat votes to pass.

Almost a trillion for Ukraine, billions for Afria and Israel, but it's your tax money and they don't have any to pay you back for SS you paid into.

Except that trillion isn't actually going to Ukraine. Our own government is looting our country and laundering it through Ukraine. They're lining their own pockets.

Millions of foreigners pulling down the economy given everything can't help.
Plus, higher energy prices due to the B.S. "climate change" agenda and the retarded Ukranian-Russian war can't help either.

and I want my money back when I don’t feel like working anymore.

Oh, so now feefees are important here too or something? What if someone "feel like" not working at 40, are you fine with that? Or just, feel like they just never want to work at all? Yeah sorry, I'm not buying your argument, cause that's just something people will exploit to not work, because humans are naturally lazy.

The world only works if people work. That's it. And when the life expectancy keep getting higher and higher, I think it's only fair we raise a little bit the retirement age as well. Not just that, work is generally less and less physical, with most jobs being sitting in front of a computer or something. Yeah buddy, if your body is a wreck even though all you do at work is type on a keyboard, that's purely on you.

By the way, if you make enough money, you can technically retire anytime you want. So if you want early retirement, just work hard and smart.

I'm actually surprised so many here assume people that just love working are tax slaves. How far this community has fallen to see they actually count on being paid out on time for their Social Security. Definition of weak men.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– MR_ROBOT1776 2 points 6 days ago +2 / -0

Not expecting to be paid back on the money you were taxed, specifically when that was the purpose of the tax, is the biggest definition of being a tax slave! Our forefathers fought a war over not being represented in return for being taxed. Do you even know what this place is or why you're here?

If you love working, work. For the love of God, do something you enjoy as a hobby in old age and do your best to not give that money away to the government. You must be a teen, cause you'll be singing a different tune when you're physically incapable of working without pain, or at all.

▲ -1 ▼
– WilliamHRacy -1 points 6 days ago +1 / -2

You sound like someone desperate to get the money back that you paid into a ponzi scheme. Which Social Security is. I'll take the compliment that you think I'm a teen. I'm a very old codger, who likes laboring with my hands. It brings me vigor. A life that peons who count on Social Security for their retirement will never have. Weak people count on others for their wellbeing. Whether or not you were extorted during your working years is a moot point.

I could collect Social Security, but have no desire to. I'll leave weak men to collapse the system. I crave a real life. Most people I see posting here are posing as something that they never intend to aspire to. A strong man.

By that, you mean paying taxes? You didn't / don't pay taxes? haha. I have plenty of decades ahead before I even think about retirement. I'm just not dumb enough to think I'm not owed what I paid into, and have a big enough sack to at least fight for it, rather than be content with its redirection to Ukraine and corrupt politicians.

Don't collect it, fine by everyone else! We'll do the fighting for our own while you're terminally ill and working 40+ hrs a week.

Thanks pede. Judging by the reaction to my comment, most here are weak men, who expect their Social Security handout for their time served. To be completely honest, this was a shock to me. People here talk big, but in the end, most of the people here are pro-gov boomers who want their handout. I'm leaving this cesspool. Wish you the best though.

It’s not like you even can do that here, at least in most professions. They force you out, unless you are self-employed. Raising the retirement age does not make people work longer, since companies push you out anyways. What it does is REDUCE PENSIONS. In other words, you get less bang for your buck in terms of what you pay into the system.

Anyways, fuck the whole thing. My country has been decaying for a long time, and 90% of those protesting fuckers wanted me to wear a mask and take the clot shot. Let them clash with the riot police, then be robbed by the migrants, they all deserve each other.

From my limited understanding, he used emergency powers to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64, affecting people that earned it and not affecting the dindus and gibsmedats. So, calling it a rollback of the social net is inaccurate.

I dont know about that, but it was a French revolution motto and it's fucking stupid.

The American revolution was an economic revolution as much as anything. "Equality" held no place in our slogans and mottos. Property rights were at the core of our version of liberty, not this "equity" based liberty where faggots have the liberty to fuck with your kids because "equality" and shit. The French revolution ideology was a precursor to the globalist Satanism we have today.

If you outnumbered your opponents and they have superior weapons, you can counter their rush by doing a pincher move, split your group into threes and when they move forward, you start surrounding them from another block, the goal is to completely surround them when they are in the center.
