Now, I look at it, and what else IS it but prisoner-training?

Honestly, if it is a failing school district, it is probably a city district, where there is a culture of thuggery and parents that DGAF, so I am not sure there could be learning in the first place.

But yes, for the few that actually care and want to learn, this is probably a Godsend.

There are a few school districts in Texas that are going to 4 day school weeks. They say they are doing it to attract teachers. Lets see, teachers get spring break week off, the entire summer off, fall break and two weeks off at Christmas and these pricks stay they are overworked!

When I was homeschooled it took me about 3 hours per day to learn my lessons. Then 30 minutes to review the material with my mom.

I got a better education that year than my years in public school. The only thing public school did better was the amount of extra curriculars. Which, when you really think about it, is a waste of taxpayer money because it's not even education. Just about babysitting students longer after school.

In these bad neighborhoods, these are essentially WINOs.

Actually it's far more pathetic than that. White kids try to fit in with the black kids but the best they can ever achieve in those social circles is second-class citizen.

I do fear we are missing the forest for the trees. The collapse of the black family precipitated the cultural black hole that they have become. It's started to pick up speed with white people, too. This isn't a school problem, it's a culture and family problem.

You have no idea how right you are. My workplace (for now) is about 75% black and it is the most toxic environment I have ever experienced.

Literally someone brought donuts last week and a coworker yelled "fuck this white people shit."

Reporting to HR doesn't seem worth my time since the HR lady (hyphenated name and all) thinks my coworkers should get paid time off to "endure racism."

Before the obvious question of why: I work with kids and I value the difference I am able to make in their lives but I don't get paid nearly enough to deal with the hostile racism day in and day out.

The system isn't irreparable, but they won't let you fix it.

I worked at UPS as a Corporate Internal Security Supervisor, so that meant I had to work directly in a sorting facility

It was about ~70% black and my direct team of 12 was 9/12 black... It's the most disorganized, undisciplined, chaotic working environment imaginable

I stopped bringing a box of donuts every Friday because how they would act (think: https://youtu.be/Tmrz28YZ2YQ)

I finally told them they could only take one so there was enough for the whole team, but they wouldn't listen... So, no more donuts 🤷‍♂️

I also terminated some employees for calling me "cracker", "white-y", and "snow bunny." But the all-black union board would bring them right back

The school district in question is a small geographic area and has a high rate of turnover among teachers. I'm guessing it's where a lot of ohio teachers start as cherries. They stick around just long enough to get nut-punched by reality and find a way out and into another neighborhood/school district. The median pay and home prices in the area indicate that none of the college 'educated' teachers live in that neighborhood.

I'm going to wager a lot of the kids are being raised/exploited/neglected by single moms on benefits who got knocked up as a carreer choice and are now continuing the pattern of shit decision making and irresponsible behavior. All while encouraging thier kids to follow thier lead while blaming others for the mess thier lives have become. That does not produce kids who can readily be taught anything.

Schools can't fix problems at home. And government programs/scams only make that shit worse. Cutting the school week back to 4 days will only finish off whatever chance those kids had and guarantee the only teachers who stick around are the shitbags who will do it for the three day weekends and the lack of accountability. It's the same in every poor area dominated by single moms. Dad's matter and welfare is a life sentence for the mom and the kids.

▲ 3 ▼

Yep. It’s impossible to perform well in that job. It’s like expecting a dentist to have patients with zero cavities when those patients refuse to develop any form of at-home hygiene habits. Or a truck driver not delivering goods when his truck is broken down and company doesn’t assist with repairs. Or a data analyst expected to create a dashboard given missing data fields. They could double the salaries of teachers and they would not perform any better, plus they would still have teacher turnover because the job sucks.

– Juantinntwo 8 points 70 days ago +8 / -0

They have job security in that NOBODY wants to teach anymore. The women who flocked to make a difference in the world and have a steady job until they have their own children are now going into nursing because the job checks similar boxes but still pays better. If you fired underperforming teachers, you would have 80% layoffs and nobody to replace them.

Just lower your expectations and view schools as tax payer funded babysitting that happens to help a minor amount with reading and math while you earn a living and supplement their education at home. If you have the means, then homeschool is better, but most of us need 2 incomes to survive in US today.

That is how teacher pay works. Nicest neighborhoods with best students pay is low, worst neighborhoods pay is high. Good teachers will work for less when they enjoy their job, whereas the only way to keep an adult in the room in certain areas is money.

No, They should get a choice. An excellent student will chose an excellent school. Those schools will do well because there is financial incentive. The money follows the student. Shitty teachers can be fired. Just applying the free market to education. Instead of our current situation where the school keeps getting more money, even when the kids graduate without being able to read. A student who could actually do something with their life gets dragged down and drowned in the squalor of their school. The teachers union is the largest lobby in our country and the single worst problem for black America. look into it.

I agree with your sentiment, but this isn’t just a teacher issue. It’s is a culture issue. This is what happens when students receive no home guidance and parents dump their manner-less children off at school 5 days a week for babysitting services. In decades past, schools retained the ability to discipline poorly behaved students. We’re witnessing the real time self destruction of the public education system as it’s hamstrung itself to the point of failure.

It’s (mostly) not the teachers… it’s the lack of parents willing to spend time teaching their kids at home and working on homework etc with them. The fact there are terrible family demographics in black homes is a major part of the problem.

>>> LoL <<<

You just can't make this shit up. Even the geniuses at Babylon Bee shake their heads in awe.

If you have any possible way to make it work, please home school your kids or a find a non-public school offering. Fight like hell to make state funding follow the child, including home school, and not just get tossed in the dumpster fire that is our public schools.

I’m not saying there aren’t a LOT of shitty teachers, because there are; but if you look at a failing school, look at the admin first.

I taught in the poorest zip code in Philly for 6 years. 4.5 if those were tough, but tolerable. But the tough as nails principal got a better offer. After she went, so did the strong teachers. Then they brought in a new team of literal woke faggots - more concerned with making a gender neutral bathroom than kids safety or reading level. Then the rest of the good teachers left snd it became straight up toxic and dangerous.

So yeah there are teachers who say “best part of teaching is June July and August!” but there are an equal number of pencil pushers who teach for 5 years, suck the right ladypenis, then fail upward to run a school into the ground.

It’s not just black; it’s also poor. We now test everyone and can see the issues. When there is trauma or problems in the home, it affects how well students learn. The more parental involvement, the better a student succeeds. In poor communities, you have broken families, drug use, crime, etc. The Left knows this, and what have they been doing for the past 60 years? Pushing divorce, working parents (women’s Lib), higher costs of living, defunding police, abortion (instead of marriage and commitment), and releasing violent criminals. But they don’t have the ability to evaluate if their worldview or past decisions have worked or failed. They just assume they are right and keep creating more problems. Teachers cannot discipline a student misbehaving. This is another problem of why teachers are burned out. You couldn’t pay me enough to do that job. If we went back to 1950’s discipline, trust me—these kids would shape up quick or be kicked out.

Poor east Asian-Americans don't have this problem. Poverty does not account for cultural differences and lesser cultures.

I think the more important question is what is causing teacher burnout? Surely lengthening the school year, or piling the same amount of curriculum into less time won’t help with the fact that they have to deal with little shitheads all day long that don’t receive any parenting at home and the parent doesn’t support their child's education once they leave school. Most public schools have been reduced to a daycare at this point.

Yes. Let’s not bash the teachers and schools for every aspect of failure, like meaningless test scores that detail more about economics than student achievement. We should do what we can to prevent grooming by activist teachers, be more efficient with our money and remove wasteful practices such as increased bussing costs using odd routes to balance the racial demographics, and policies that enable/encourage failure such as 50% grade minimums even if the student skips the assignment altogether.

Also, Obama-era pressure towards schools with disproportionate school suspensions of certain demographics has led to schools having a 2-tiered justice system that ignores behaviors from some students while over-punishing others based on skin color to cook their discipline books. This has had the opposite impact of the intended goal, in that those demographics seem to behave even worse. I’m not saying that from an outside/ parent perspective either, I witnessed these changes first-hand, and attended the professional development trainings when they first began pushing “equity” instead of equality.

Everything is related. Mom and Dad have to work 5 days a week and kids go to school 5 days a week. Now, kids go to school just 4 days but parents still have to work 5 days. Who watches the kids on the 5th day? Parents scrambling with their schedules? Hire more daycare? It is gonna be a mess.

So much to say here, but how does this effect funding? Also, one day for a kid to be home means one day a parent needs to figure out a babysitter, or some other service to watch their kids. Will this reflect the amount the school system gets funded? Do Teachers take a financial hit by taking another day off?

The CCP is destroying our country from within and those greedy, lazy bitches are just fine with that.

How about the people of Ohio cut the salary of the teachers and administrators to match?

laughs in growing up with a 4-day school week when I was in school

If the school actually cares to educate the students and optimizes the system, a 4 day school week can actually have some great results with students. Then again, my class in particular had a lot of students that cared about their education as well.

So less days more hours. To many parents don't raise their kids. You got the poor schools that are nightmares. Administrators are evil lazy asshats. Young teachers are brainwashed. Old teachers counting down the days to run. Good teachers get ran out in 5 or less years. The ones that want to make a difference and teach. They get it from other teachers and administrators. Education needs a complete make over with no administrators or government oversight. There's more to life than a kid sitting for 8 hours a day to take a test on Friday and forget it all.
