EV batteries lack reparability leading some insurers to junk whole cars after even minor collisions
Some insurers are forced to scrap whole electric vehicles if their batteries are scratched or slightly damaged as they lack reparability and cost as much as 50% of the total vehicle.
This is why automakers are getting behind this huge mistake. They have no problem selling you a whole nother car, after you get in a fender bender.
Insurance rates are gonna skyrocket
Can't they put them on a bus and send them to NYC?
don't forget California!!
They want that subscription model and a battery replacement at 50% of the cars value is effectively that.
Good luck trying to sell one used. Nobody wants them and the only people you can sell them to is people who have previously owned one (electric hookup).
Batteries, as long as not physically damaged, still have a long usefull life in off-grid applications.
Lol used tesla were going for more than new teslas for like 5 years
Can't they can just burn them in waste fuel heaters for industrial processes? Oops, that is old oil and gasoline. Just another loose end the Greenies forgot to think of (they knew it all along).
Yep. The resell rate on EVs is pretty much a scam. Battery replacement for EVs is anywhere from $8,000 to $20,000.
I chortle whenever I the Ford ad where the guy lights up the house with his gay e-truck. Clip is super short probably because it kept the lights on for about 5 seconds.
Y father in law is still waiting for his new electric Ford. It's only been like 8 months. Tried to talk him out of it but he is a leftie that has bought CC hook line and sinker. Mind you he still has a little Toyota he bought brand new that still runs like a top. I laughed as I told him he would never put the amount of fuel in the Toyota that would pay for the Ford. He is almost 80 and a great guy btw.
Not to mention disposal. Where are all these used up batteries going to go after they are removed? In the ground, to pollute ground water and land?
EVs are worse than gas powered vehicles, at least you can repair older model gas powered vehicles and run them until they disintegrate.
Cannot do that with an EV.
I tell this to EV fan bois all the time. B-B-But the batteries can last x long and are better? Yea. In a lab test maybe. But as this states they can be damaged beyond repair from a minor collision, or cold weather, or a variety of other things. If 1-2 collisions totals every EV then they’re going to be flying to the junk heap and spiking insurance premiums for at least EV owners if not all drivers since we share the road with them.
yeah the whole batteries == magic beans pisses me off to no end. I gurandamntee the "30 year" magic batteries on all these solar installs are gonna go bad right about the time the whole install breaks even after 8 years.
Exactly right you will replace all the batteries in your home within 15 years, how long until the panels are brittle and need to be replaced.
We know how long roofing materials last. Do we really expect PV to last as long?
I've installed tons of metal roofing. It will last long after I'm gone and probably 4 rounds of PV. Even architectural comp will last 30+ years. Used to run Malarkey on most jobs. Don't know what you're on about 🤔
Battery powered cars are gay and soulless.
I'm sure we are subsidizing their insurance costs as well.
More e-waste, idiot lefttards.
Had a buddy years ago that bought an early hybrid. I think his battety pack lasted 2-3 years before it wouldn't hold a charge anymore. Brand new. He said he'll never buy another one. This dude was a techy geek too. "Never again" he said.
Half my ebike is battery cost. Does that even make since?
Yes, bikes aren't expensive otherwise. The motor system would be the most expensive part?
My 1000 watt Electric bike motor is about $250, the 19 amp battery cost nearly $700
The chinese made that battery for 20 and sold it for 100
Yep, it's all Chinese made! Cept the Rider!
Seems very environmental.... /s
Get an iCar. Looks like but you are outdated every 12 months and have to get a new one.
I can't see who would buy a used EV knowing that a year or 2 later they will likely have to replace the battery pack to the tune of $15k plus.
DEPENDING IN THE CAR, EV batteries can be opened up and have individual cells tested and replaced. I know this can be done with most Teslas. Not sure about other brands.
Ev cars are still fairly early in development, and until we have a battery revolution, things are the prettiest. I still say that in the case you have power generation outside the grid, EVs may be of use. I DO NOT recommend them for the average user.
Shhhh they're hoping everyone will sign the dotted line and buy one before this hits mainstream. The narrative will also try to be manipulated with statements like "Well that's how much you would've spent on gas anyway, so it's a wash"
Repair? Shit, just buy a new one from communist China, our best friends.
Every fan of these things that I know just waves it off by announcing that "the technology just needs to develop"
That is why they want it forced on us. Because then they think that the technology will be FORCED to develop. Shit you not.
Send the little African kids to the cobalt mines!
Tesla should use Edison batteries.
It was always a money grab. Cheaper EVs it could be 70%+ for the battery and may even exceed the cost of the vehicle as prices continue to rise.
Totaled EV's are sold at auction, go for much more that a totaled ICE car. Even a damaged battery pack can go for $10K plus.
They also can't dispose of them and just park them in massive grave yards. They can't even bury them
This should also make insuring these cars too expensive.
Fucking stop.....youre not turning this around....its like bitching about people giving up horses for cars
How about you and your children go dig cobalt then? See ya when you get back!
Electric cars replacing gasoline powered cars for the majority of the population is more like steam powered cars replacing horses for the entire population.
Electric vehicles and the batteries are not sustainable, and they will be a bigger environmental waste hazard than CFLs were. Maybe you remember how green those things were?
Will the battery tech exist that is recyclable and safe and affordable - maybe some day in the future, but we aren't anywhere close now.
I agree. If you don't want an EV, don't buy one., No need to lie about them.
Most modern cars are unibody construction, with advanced sensors and safety equipment and are totaled in anything more than a minor accident. An accident that would damage the battery of an electric car would most certainly total a similar ICE car.
~Lithium batteries suck, they explode, they are mined by children, let me just grab my lithium power tools, computer, phone, watch, etc.
Actual construction workers don't use battery powered tools. If you worked anywhere near the industry you would know your statement is bullshit. No one I repeat no one is framing, siding, flooring or roofing anything bigger than a shed with batteries. Do crews utilize them? Yes but it is a tiny fraction of total worked accomplished. How many welders are using battery operated equipment? I'm sure you know the answer
