I'm old enough to remember the Obama vs. HRC primary in 2008 being extremely contentious and Team Obama people hating all things HRC and vice versa. Was that the end of the Democrat party? Why do people keep acting like Trump vs DeSantis will be the end of the republican party?
A more recent, and applicable, spat among the Democrats was Hillary vs Bernie. Both Hillary and Obama were establishment, but Bernie represented the populist wing of the Democrats.
The way that worked out is we Bernie voters watched as the establishment rigged every primary for Hillary, while the media printed hit pieces on both Bernie and us supporters. By the end of the primary there was so much bad blood between the two camps (they literally blasted white noise machines at Bernie’s people during the convention to drown us out) that around 12-15% of Bernie voters voted for GEOTUS out of spite. I was one of them. That won him the election.
We’re even more tribal now than we were then.
This isn’t “steel sharpens steel,” this is “setting ourselves up for our own demise.”
